Eliphos 003
:: Species Name: Trilus Plant (Tribulus Venenifer)
:: Date Found: 6/21/2031
:: Written by mtomczek

Description: The trilus plant is a large leafy green plant that is often found in shady, overgrown areas. Know to grow in "packs" the lethal trilus plant feeds on small mammals and sometimes lizards that happen into its path. First found in the deep jungles of Eliphos, the trilus plant uses a decoy system to lure its pray in. Large green leaves(sometimes 3 feet long and 2 feet wide) at its base, and bright beautiful flowers at its center, often draw creatures in for a snack. Little known to these wandering animals, the jungle floor is covered by the poisonous "tentacles" of the trilus plant, which when dormant appear to be vines or roots. The lethal weapons of the trilus, these tentacles have small razor sharp spines on the undersides, which are used to grasp the pray, while injecting its neurotoxin. Once the prey has been immobilized, the trilus opens its center and begins to feed, slowly digesting the food through a series of acids and muscular contractions. The internal workings of the trilus are still unknown to any scientific institution, but it is believed to have some sort of stomach, or internal "sack" to contain its food while digesting. Also the exact size of the trilus is unknown because a complete specimen has yet to be successfully dug up and examined. Some researchers have a theory that it is in fact either not a plant at all, or a symbiotic parasitic organism. The plant survives on the creature, and the creature uses the plant to obtain food.

I'm 25% happy with it, but now that I see I have 2 weeks to do it, I may redraw it only in pencil and more detail..

I've got David Attenborough's "The Private Life of Plants - A natural history of plant behavious" on my desk at the moment (some really, really great refs) and I am SO gonna participate in this Eliphos :)

That one looks good phait...I like the slanted barbs on the vines...almost like a predator's teeth...once they grab it won't let go. I will scan the one I did and post it up tonight.

"Let's grab a few of those flowers, Lefty. They would make a perfect center piece for the galley table." - The last words of a tourist on safari to his scout, Lefty, the only known survivor of the Trilus plant. Lefty always had his clients pay in advance.
Lefty answered, "Uh, you go ahead and I'll take a picture, OK?" :eek:

I guess nobody is into man-eating plants. But that's not important. How about some comments?

Aikisean, I like your composition as well as the little teeth on the mouth parts. You managed to make a real picture whereas I just concentrated on the plant and suddenly found myself with all this embarrassing white background of which I couldn't make anything. I should plan my drawings better! :bash:

MindCandyMan, very funny idea (like everyone I love that rabbit). Perhaps try to control your handwriting better when putting such information on your drawings - it'll look a hellofalot more professional.

Carnifex, yes that laziness with regard of coloring shows... ;) I like the way you let the "tentacles" play hide and seek, coming out of the earth and seemingly growing in there again.

Hey Davi,

When are you going to post another Eliphos flora or fawna concept? This plant seems like it's been on forever. :confused:

Well, I certainly like the pencil sketch a 100x more then the colored. While this still up, I suggest reposting the colored one and consider this one a work in progress. But HURRY! This one has been up long enough.

Not wanting to leave with just saying that. I think your concept that you colored all too quickly is awesome. I love the giant bulb in the center. It makes it to be the most formidable plant in the jungle (if plants can be considered formidable).
