Thanks to everyone in the Critique center that helped on this one. I believe it is done but self doubt has crept in and I am wondering if I am not seeing something (not sure if that has anything to do with painting til 5 in the morning?!?).
sorry for the blurry image but its too big to scan at home. whoops!

Nice picture, Voodoo ! I like it a lot. If I can made a comment, I think her arm/foreharm is a bit too muscular [or to "manly"... Did I speack english here ? lol] for my personal taste. Or it's something with the conection between the foreharm and the arm. I'm not sure now... Feel free to forget it. Aside that, no real crit. Just love the mood and the execution of it.
Bravo. :)

hey rich,
julienne is right about the arm.
too manly, and the crease of the elbow is too severe.
it makes it look like a doll's arm.
overall, its really nice, but i think the values could use some work.
covert your file to greyscale, and you'll see how it falls apart.
you should try to have SOME area of near-pure black, and some of near-pure white...especially for reproduction purposes (an important factor when doing illustration).
these dont need to be super-large areas (depending on your scheme), but they shouldn't be tiny little spots either.
try to make the dark areas and light areas nice shapes...
its a whole new composition within the composition.
here is a what im talking about.

and here is what your piece looks like in greyscale, vs the paintover.

its not just a matter of upping contrast, because you want it only in certain areas.
try use the BG to your benefit. you can move clouds or buildings so that they strategically enhance the FG.
remember, value before color.
keep it up!

wow... that's a great paintover. It shows that this is already a nice pic, just some unforseen adjustments helps bring it all together stronger. Dan's contrast really helps establish lighting better. The foot looks more proper in the paintover also. .... I think what really helps the composition is the little wisp of cloud circling up above the figure.
Good pic, with strong advice. :)

Been painting all day pretty much so I'm starting to halucinate (maybe thats the cobalt drier. lol.) Thanks Alday.J your completely right on the man-arm! The lighting was bad in the pic I took, but it was the most clear. Basically I lost alot of contrast overall. The sky is too bright etc... Anyhoo, Here is the update!
Dan, thank you for help on this. YI appreciate the time you spent on helping me out. ou've opened up some doors for me that I was a little too timid to do myself. Next time I am going take "good" reference! Can't wait for San Diego! WOOOO HOOO!

@ Dan: Ha-hem... Well... I wanna correct a tiny point...
hey rich,
julienne is right about the arm.
Dan, aside the fact that I love you and that I scratch myself against the walls each time I see a picture from you, my name is JULIEN !!! Julienne is for the girls !!! :\
But I love you anyway... :x :P
Great job with the paintover, very instructive.
@ Voodoo: Yeah, great improvement here. Better, no doubt about that. ;) Maybe you should push values a little further. Aside that, no real crit. I still in love with the mood of the pic. Keep posting.
Julien.

one thing i noticed on the latest version that isn't a problem on the second version; the foot on the right looks like it has six toes. Other than that excellent work
