Hey buddy.. Glad to see you getting into the digital world it's amazing..

First off there are many programs that you can use to paint with on the computer but the main standered industry programs are Corel painter http://apps.corel.com/painterix/home/index.html and Adobe photoshop http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/

For painting on the computer you subsitute the mouse for a wacom tablet found over at http://www.wacom.com/index2.cfm But there is many different kinds of tablets these are just one main tablets choosen to use..

Draw, draw, draw, draw and never stop drawing...

thank you for your quick reply.

I was looking on wacomshop.nl and i saw a nice tablet. but i will cost me a lot of money, but i was wondering, whats better to use and easyer.

http://www.wacomshop.nl/product.html?ItemID=591
it has a a5 format, but it looks a little bit small, a4 format looks great at the other side, but will cost me much more, so my question, which one is a better easyer to huse.

Corel Painter Essentials 2 --> is that something good ? i hope so.

Hope to hear of one of you.

The 4x5 inch size works just fine, and it's less expensive. I suggest an Intuos 4x5.

Photoshop and Painter are both well-loved. In a nutshell, Photoshop is geared toward image manipulation and Painter is geared toward image creation. HOWEVER, thousands of artists have proven that Photoshop can be used to create paintings from scratch that have just as much beauty, precision, spontaneity, etc. as a painting made in Painter. So it's really a matter of personal preference. I prefer Photoshop because:

1. I'd been using its image manipulation tools for years before I started painting in it, so I was familiar with the program.
2. I like the straightforward application of color--there's a little less to think about than in Painter.
3. Photoshop runs more quickly on my computer than Painter. Painter tends to lag a lot on my ancient machine.

Advantages to Painter include the ability to quickly rotate your view of the painting (Photoshop requires you to actually rotate the image itself, and it's more tedious) and the ability to mimic wet-on-wet effects. If you're used to painting with traditional paint, Corel Painter is probably a better choice for you.

Tips? Well, I'm by no means a great artist, but...As others have said and will say, keep drawing and painting all the time. Practice is essential. Use reference often, but don't go into autopilot. Actually study your reference and try to build up a mental collection of reference. And this one is very important--make sure you don't put more stress on the tools and techniques than on your personal abilities. If you don't have an understanding of light, form, color, composition, and so on, no program or medium on earth will change that.

Good luck! Digital art is a lot of fun. Don't lose sight of that, even when it gets tough. You will improve.
