Very cool, i was wandering what you were up to.
Its great that you're expanding your mental library, and summed up to your skills you'll be good in no time.
I don't know if you try it but a good idea would be taking photos of a same location in different hours of the day, then do studies of that, and see what happens with colors and such.
Anyways, hope to see more. :)

Fellah - Sure, here ya go, did this one this morning, 1.5 hrs..

architecture's much different than figures, because you do get to use all those definite hard shapes and straight lines, once you know how to use them, all you need to keep in mind is perspective...

nice loose sketches. I tend to have trouble with that, so I'm envious :)

Would like to see more stuff!

That last one is very successful. Definately feeling the space (as if I'm in there).

Sweet. Are these from life or from photo?
All those studies are with the purpose of enhancing your enviroment skills and portfolio? how's that going?

Main Loop
July 13th, 2006, 02:10 AM
these are all from photo, i wish we had this kind of sweet architecture around here.. for the second question, umm sort of... im just trying to get my visual vocabulary larger, especially with things im not as familiar with, but just as important with figures.. the portfolio, ehh goign very slowly as far as concepts go....

Interesting studies.
The pencilsketches are my favorites at the moment. The digipaintings don't look solid enough. But don't take this as a serious crit because I have no clue about architecture at all.
I think I have to do something like that as well. (because I suck at architecture)

zaknafian - nah, you must have somethign, if you know nothing about architecture and still see something, then there's something definitely wrong.. anyone else got thoughts?

one more, got bored of this one, probably shows..

I'm impressed by such pictures a lot (mainly because I'm not good at creating them^^)

I think I'll try to learn it soon :)

Crit for post #19:

I think the dropshadow doesn't work very well in this case...it just makes it look too much like it came from photoshop, and it's kind of odd because it makes the object feel like it's immediately ontop of the sky.

I think the post made above that one is one of my fav's though. I am *really* loving these studies. :D

I think the ability for the image to convey a sense of the space is what determines it's success (like for most stuff). Anyway, that was what we were told when drawing plans/sections in uni ;).

#21 does this really well.

Not sure how important architectural details are, it does seem like the ones with a high frequency of details (#9, #21) are more appealing... but that could just be a matter of taste. Would love to see some classical architecture (baroque)!

Infinit - its really not that hard, at least the ones i do.. it just requires a bit of a different skill set, and some commitment..
fireflights -thanks for the crit, i shoulda went and painted into that more..
awesomus prime - thanks
alday j. - im happy you're enjoyign these so much, thanks for the high rating
meatsworthy - thanks, you know, anything you leaqrned in school is more htan i did, because they didnt teach us anything about that kind of stuff... it could be a matter of opinion but there are certain things tha almost always appeal, like high contrast, or color harmony.. i think thats one of them.. let me finish with these modern architecture books, i have other themes on the way

just trying painter this time....

I recently started going around town myself and sketching buildings. Downtown is actually not a bad place to find interesting structures. Maybe I'll see you around there this weekend.

Beautiful paintings.
