Inspired by BlackGuy's "Disliking Popular Things" thread, plus, I made one in another forum already...
So what are some unpopular opinions that you hold?... The kind that gets other people annoyed/bothered and makes you breath down your neck...
I'll start:
. The Simpsons is still the best sitcom on TV (now that's Futurama's gone)...
. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are not bad actors...
. Titanic was deserving all its Oscar Awards...
. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy is very overrated...
. 2D games > 3D games...
. Evanescene and Panic At The Disco are not that great...

-The fresh crop of "rock" bands can kiss my ass.
-Most of today's music artists can kiss my ass. There is a disturbing trend of terrible songs with bad lyrics and atonal bullshit back-beats getting into the charts and climbing near the top, which pisses me off and hurts my ears.
-MTV needs to climb into its time machine and go back to the 80s; back when it actually played music. Come to think of it, that probably isn't an unpopular opinion at all.
-Painter 8 is a lousy program that tries to be half-photoshop and half traditional painting, but instead it's a mediocre, laggy amalgam. And it's too bad there isn't another competent traditional media paint program out there. (except maybe for painter 9 which I've heard good things about, but have yet to try.)
-Van Gogh wasn't all that hot.
-Neither is the Mona Lisa. In fact I think she looks creepy.
-Nascar is not a goddamn sport.
-Baseball is the only game I know that is as boring to play as it is to watch.
-Return of the Jedi is better than Empire Strikes Back. Yes, even with the idiotic Ewoks.
-Lens flare DOES rock, and to hell with you non-believers. And if you disagree, then Greg Martin (http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/) has an ass cheek you can kiss.

2D games > 3D games? Agreed.
To further that, 16bit games with very well made sprites (anything high-budget, late generation SNES that wasn't generated by a computer originally,) tend to visually floor 50% of all PS2 games out there.
Violent media DOES have an affect on average viewers/players, and I think you can't just go to the extreme and say, "None of what I just saw affects anything about me at all in any way." Simply it's hardly enough in healthy humans to be of any concern, and responsibility -does- indeed rest with parents.
I like singers with "annoyingly" high or grating voices. Especially the Japanese ones.
If Tails isn't in Super Smash Brawl, I'm rather apathetic about whether Sonic makes an appearance.
Cute things and meaningless fluff ROCKS.
'Angry' rock groups in the last few years are just as annoyingly dramatic as the decidedly "Emo" Linkin Park. Fans just think being aggressive and destructive with the things y'need to take to therapy is somehow better than being self destructive about them.

-I really don´t think Jack Black is that funny, he´s funny, but his movies are too......normal. ( yes, even "Nacho libre" )
-Soda drinks ( carbonated) make no sense...Are they good because they make you burp??...
-I really like Harry potter´s books, but some stuff bothers me:
In the book, most "magic" kids get scouted when they display some magical power without a wand...So let´s say using a wand and some magical words somehow channels the power...but woudn´t be cooler if they somehow tryed to do things whitout a wand?...just saying, because the "fighting scenes" are not more mystical than using a gun.
-What´s with reality shows???? That´s one thing popular that I dislike, becuase is popular for the sake of being popular, is like taking the magic away from making a real show.
-Football is very very boring to watch...I prefer Rugby...But then again, I really don´t watch tv anymore :).
-I don´t believe in the "the end justifys the means" saying, the worst things in society and history are beacuse of the belief you can justify things.
-I really don´t like religion, any religion....I haven´t since I´m 12...but I´m not so sure that´s popular nowadays.......I just feel like what I am and what I believe became trendy in the last 5 years :(
That´s all I guess...now back to work :).

-Beer tastes like wet bread and smells terrible, people say that there is nothing like a cold beer.....because as cold as it gets the less taste it has.......If you want to be refreshed drink cold water!!
- Most alcoholic drinks are incredibly bitter and unpleasant to drink, to evryone I ask " why do you drink that bitter shit", they just tell me that you have to train untill the taste suits you........wtf?!
- What´s so interesting about watching a car race? ( waiting for an accident...aren´t ya)
-Cigarrets suck!!, I don´t really care about the cancer, my father smokes at least 2 pack a day...when I was a kid I needed some of that innalator for asma, because the "doctor" coudnt tell the difference between true asma and having to breath that much smoke everyday.
-Animal health care is poor, and anyone that ask the veterinarian to "put his pet to sleep" just to avoid having to pay for more medical expenses should be banned from having any other pet ever again, avoiding the problem with a living thing that not only is your responsability,( also in some cases your pet might even trust you with his survival) IS brutal and a lack of character IMO.

Something that really shits me is how intolerant people are of smokers now. People inhale loads of car exhaust living near roads and around cities, with shit in it that's ten times worse than what's in a cigarette, is some tobacco smoke going to kill you? Get the fuck over it, you pussies. (I don't smoke, for the record). The other side to that is that I hate people leaving cigarette butts everywhere. It's like a used bandaid, I don't want to see it.
Going on from that I think littering is really disgusting and people need to stop being so damn lazy and walk to a bin, or put it in a pocket or something till they can.
Excessive political correctness shits me. Learn to take a fucking joke. Also people who get offended by swearing can go take a jump.

Keep in mind I still believe design is more important then painting and rendering......so I'm talking about design, not painting.

Men should'nt have more than one girlfriend at a time.
Is it popular opinion that it's okay for guys to have multiple girlfriends where you live!? :$
Being overly pessimistic doesn't mean that you're 'smart' and you understand the 'unfair way our world works.' It means you're just afraid of getting hurt by actually giving people a fair chance and opening yourself up a little.
Hating 'stupid people' is really an annoying and thoughtless trend. Most 'stupid people' jokes and arguments really only stack up to either, "This person has inconvenienced me in a minor way, they are stupid and should be eaten," or "This person made a choice that represents a lack of common sense, and if you haven't learned something through an external source that may or may not have been offered to you, you are teh dumbs."
The funny thing is, when the lady with the "I see stupid people" bumper sticker gets done watching Carlos Mencia, she piles her kid into her SUV, no seat belt, speeds, cuts 6 people off while driving, and leaves her 5 year old son to wander alone in WalMart while she gets a pedicure.
Giving somebody money doesn't give you the right to MAKE THEM A DOORMAT. If you're paying for a nice dinner, it doesn't mean you have the right to be an ass about your food. It means you have the right to make valid concerns. I have a friend who works at a dollar theater. Frankly, I'm shocked what people will go through and say to get refunds or freebies on their TWO DOLLAR TICKETS.

Thats not exactly an unpopular oppinion. Almost every fan of the Tim Burton movies hates the new batmobile. I for one like it. While the batmobile from Batman and Batman: Returns is the coolest looking car known to man, I never thought it was practical. A tank is the most practical of vehicles for batman to ride in and they kinda designed a car tank hybrid that works well for his purposes, and made sense. I mean seriously tim burtons batmobile is so low that it wouldnt be able to go over speed bumps. The new one can jump over chasms (the actual car they build could fall from 30 feet without any damage to the car). The new movie was all about substance over style and the batmobile i think epitimized that.

All the Final Fantasy games up to 6 are amazing games. FF7 is a good game, but the only reason people claim it to be the best is because that's when they jumped on the video game band wagon. 8 is a disgusting game. 9 is mediocre. There really is nothing unique about 10.
Mario games are still amazing. The level designs are actually well thought out and all of the games are still highly replayable. All of the current 3D platformers ignore the concept of playing a game with your own style. Everyone is forced to run down the same hallways the same exact way.
Kingdom Hearts is better than Final Fantasy 7,8,9,and 10 combined.
Most Americans who hate America are "rebellious" teenagers who have no concept on anything outside of their hometown, or the nearest large city. Most of them like spitting out idiotic trash like how they wish America would become a communist nation, or that Anarchy is the greatest thing ever.
People who say that a zombie attack would be awesome and they would love fighting zombies are morons. Not only would they die first, not because they're trying to fight the zombies but because they're more than likely the people who would simply freeze and die where they stood, and they would never kill a single zombie.
Street Fighter still has the most depth of any fighting game made. Most notably Street Fighter 3. There is more possiblities to that game than any other fighting game. And for the people who hate 3 simply because they got rid of Sagat or Bison or Blanka or any other character needs to accept that those characters are simply not needed any more.
There are amazing game made recently. 3D games to be more exact. Shadow of the Collossus? Yeah that's right.

He is not selective over who he loves, he loves everyone, even when they fall, for I believe we exist for one another, and we are always given the opportunity to correct our mistakes and ultimately better our selves and always aid those around us to reach their full potential as a human being.
Those who literally interpret any piece of religious text from any source are ignorant and can't look past simple meaning to a higher allegorical concept.
All people need to have faith in something, and an understanding that there is something greater than themselves.
Asians are not innate mathematical/science geniouses. Everything in life takes hardwork and dedication, no matter who the person is.
Those who abdandon family and friends are deserving of neither.
The British should be held partly responsible for what is going on in the Middle East today. Israel is not an agressor. Israel is defending its self with enemies poised at them on all fronts. They don't leave their own behind, You can blame the corrupt miliitants of the Palistinians for their current quality of life, as they sink all their foriegn aid into weaponry and propaganda. Believe it or not, majority of BOTH SIDES WANT PEACE. Suicide bombing and sending your children off to their deaths IS NOT a Muslim value. Unfortunatly, you can't reason with fanatics.
Israel was established LEGALLY in 1947. Their borders were approved by the U.N. (as in recognized by the international community).
American media is biased, and those people who feed themselves with corporate filtered economically interested news, needs to get off their lazy ass and do THEIR OWN research.
I have no qualms with gay marriages. I believe that if two individuals of the same sex need to do a ceremonial act for themselves to make it "official" is fine.
I do have issues with gay couples adopting children, and the fact that they are willfully not going to procreate.
Abortion should be illegal except in two cases. 1) Rape 2) If any birth complications will endager the mother's life. Just because you were horny and couldn't put a damn condom on doesn't mean you can kill your potential child. Simple answer, don't want to have a child? DON'T HAVE SEX.
Americans need to reform their diet and excercise more.
There are too many cars in America.
Alcohol and cigarettes should probably be illegal.
Marijuana use DOES NOT need to be legalized. THC is already used in a medical setting. There is no justification for this. The itching need to get baked is not a good one.
I don't know where to stand on stem cell research, frankly, i'm f&*@ing confused, and by nature am a very conflicted person.
I'm not too fond of Germany.
Also another note, if Americans say Israel can't build a wall to secure themselves, then we can't build a wall to keep Mexicans out. If Americans say Israel should give back land, then America should give back the entire North American continent to the Native Americans. In fact, all nations that have gained land through military conquest whether in defense or agression should give back their land. So, the world needs to get on solving that asap.
There are good and bad people in ALL nations and societies.
John Kerry WAS NOT BETTER, and JUST AS BAD as George Bush. Both parties screwed us on their candidate choices. Republicans sometimes adopt Democratic issues, and Democrats sometimes adopt Republican issues. Deal with it, or finally vote 3rd party. They're not the only two in existance.
Women are just as equal as men.

There hasn't been a need to use embryonic stem cells in a few years. It is possible to take stem cells from an adult (there are a few spots that regenerate stem cells) and so the results can be used in the same person with no difficulties. The only thing keeping stem cell research from going anywhere in the US is the FDA.
There are no drugs involved when using stem cells, so the FDA would make no money off of it.
Figured I'd throw that in.

Art school should be treated like any other program... business, psych, early childhood etc... and any teacher that waits for you to figure the class out for yourself is not doing their job.

Shadow of the colossus is over-rated. What's there is good but it feels like half a game.
Final Fantasy: the movie is a decent film and the only reason why most people disliked it is because of the title. Had it been called "phantom invasion : EXTREME" it would not of been so hated.
Going to the movies and going to the 'club' are by far the two most anti-social activities you can do while still including another person. Terrible places to hang out.

Oh yeah I forgot these ones:
ALL drugs should be legalized. To do otherwise is the highest form of hypocrisy as long as alcohol and tobacco are legalized. Also no one should tell anyone what to take into their bodies provided they are putting themselves at risk only.
Rastafarians are an oppressed minority because their freedom of religion is being violated by the ban on marijuana while other religions are free to use psychedelic tea for their ceremonies.
You shouldn't love your family for the label that they bear (for the group they fall in) but for who they are. If they are bad to you and mistreat you you should definitely leave them.
Art is fluff although it's inspiring fluff. I have more respect for more mundane and practical jobs like farming, engineering, and medicine etc.
People that thank God that they survived when a plane crashed or a mine caved in are thankless assholes. Oh yeah forget all those poor shmucks that "God decided not to spare" and forget all those rescue teams and doctors that worked to save their life. It's like saying "Thank you God for not killing me tonight because you are so great".... bleh

It's so much easier to do a 2d render of an object, even several views, than modelling, texturing and lighting the thing. Which means that in terms of creative thinking, 2d will always be superior over 3d.
I also don't like cars. I can't drive and I haven't got a license because I know that if I do I'll get used to the independence of it and will burn fossil fuels, which will then make me feel bad. Public transport FTW!
The world isn't that different (more developed countries), most of it is commercialised enough for anyone to get around, shop, anything, with little more than a nod and a smile. If they have enough money that is. >:D In less developed countries, all you need is money with which to buy the rest of that stuff (army, mansion and harem :P )

I'm reading Sam Harris' The End of Faith right now and its really compelling. Our civilization is long overdue for jettisoning religion. Even the Greeks (who did not have the scientific and technological means we do) were tossing out their superstitions hundreds of years before Christ. Harris' book regards all religious faith as something not unlike mental illness, and people who argue for religion should be treated like they are arguing for paranoia or schizophrenia.

So I guess that makes me one of those annoying atheists.
Additionally, I'm a big believer in zero population growth. Not forever, just soon and for a while. The earth's population has doubled in my lifetime. Further, many population experts say the interval between occasions the population doubles is cut in half each time it happens. The last time it happened was about 37-38 years. We'll have 12 billion folks in about 19 years. That's too many.

3D modellers. I believe most 3D modellers sucks donkeyballs. They are technical artists who have no clue about the aesthetics of sculpting. When the reference material they so slavishly follow doesn't cover an area and they need to interpolate, they always come up with the worst possible solution... and don't get me started on the ones that draw their own designs. Yeah, I know there's a few good ones too, but because anyone with a little technical skill can make a nice render of their deformed primitives, well... I suppose it's the 'polished turd recieves standing ovations' bit that gets to me. It's kind of like with new games. Polished turds, the lot of 'em! Arrr!

Here's some more:
-All religions should be banned and people who try to convert other people publicly fustigated.
-The Grimm adventures of Bill and Mandy is NOT for kids.
-There should be a 'responsibility' test for potential parents, if you are found unfit you don't fucking procreate and/or whine about it.
-Full nudity and explicit material should be of free access. Not because parents in the US are too damn retarded to take care of their own kids should I suffer the consequences of the 'nannyism' of the state.
-I find special olympics sad and demeaning for the participants.
-Kylie Minogue and Danii Minogue are the same person.
-I'd like to be able to smoke wherever I want, since I have to suck on exhaust fumes anywhere I don't want.
-Anti-Tobacco associations are just as bad as tobacco companies.
-Morbidly obese people should be sent to Somalia or Ethopia.

There IS such a thing in art as talent, and no amount of training and practice will ever equalize the playing field. Two people, one with talent, one without, doing an equal amount of work and practice, will always result in one behind the other.
Video games of all sorts should be outlawed as ant-social and counter-productive.
A true genius is someone who knows as much as possible of as many things as possible in as many fields as possible. Anyone who specializes to the extent of exclusion of other knowledge is an idiot.
All people are racists to some degree, and I for one will never accept the Japanese as equals until they drop to their knees and apologize for the crap they did to those non-Japanese from 1932 to 1945.
The United States is doomed to second class status until it's people, especially the young, learn that glorifying ignorance, image, wealth and "coolness" over education is one of the stupidest concepts ever created by man.
I would rather share my bed with a "plain" woman who had the guts to argue with me, and come up with her own plans for our "world" than any synthetic Barbi sex-slave just dying to do my bidding.
People who are cruel to animals are extremely dangerous to other humans.

Any law based on a religious belief is automatically evil.
Any government/culture/nation/religion that honors males above females should be innoculated with a virus/compound/whatever to prevent the conception of any males for at least three generations.
Photoshop, Painter, and 3D modeling programs do not, and will never, make you an artist.
People who use plastic surgery to attract a mate should be prevented from breeding, on the basis that it is impending cruelty to their offspring to come.
Anyone without a sense of humor should be banished to a walled city with weapons of all types, unlimited ammunition, bad food and $2 in their pocket.
Anyone who thinks picking a fight with a stranger is fun should be able to be legally beaten to death on the spot by anyone and everyone in the vicinity, using any thing at hand as a weapon.

And do you know why there are Japanese who don't know what I'm talking about. Because the government of Japan and it's social organizations have refused to admit in text books, the media, or any other instructional forum that what happened DID happen. Basically, they are lying about the atrocities they committed, which in many cases exceeded the Nazi's ability to prove just how low a human institution can sink. Does that help you "get it" any better? I'm thinking you may be a bit young to have had family and friends who were tortured and butchered in the last war for no apparent reason other than the need to exhibit just how cruel someone could become. And for the record, my heart is old and bitter, even though I try every day to make it otherwise.
"Any law based on a religious belief is automatically evil."
But how about don't kill, don't steal? they are kind of nice."
I agree--they are kind of nice, but the law is actually "don't murder, don't steal." Otherwise, the laws would have abolished war, as well as self defense and defending your family, a long time ago.
Not murdering, not stealing, not committing adultery or whatever, respecting your elders, protecting the weak (children), incest and any number of other grievous crimes against your neighbor all were recognized and accepted long before there was religion as we know it.
Homosexuals were considered savants, teachers and protectors of children, and even specially gifted in "seeing" long before the various "modern" religions decided they were less than human and an easy target for abuse. Now we have "kill a ΦΦΦ for Jesus" good christians out there...
The same goes for women who were intelligent, independent, or able to become wealthy through their own abilities. Funny how many laws that were in effect for the last 2000 years that suppressed such women were results of patriarchal religions intruding into sectarian law, using various "holy books" to keep the bitches in their place.
In my (adult) lifetime (but obviously not your's), the religious powers in the US used their teachings and beliefs to prove "legally" that dark-skinned people were too stupid, subhuman, and just plain too animalistic to be allowed to vote, intermarry with "real" people, and to even drink or eat at the same places as real "honest-to-God" human beings.

So you hate the government and the people of Japan who turn the cogs. What I don't understand is why you'd consider for example, a Japanese kindergarden student as sub-human. (You said "not equal", ie. sub-human or at least second class citizen.)
Granted their atrocities during WW2 were unimaginable by most of today's standards, often for the sake of cruelty alone. Although I was not personally alive yet at the time, my father lived through it, in one of the invaded countries. He saw friends butchered ad tortured as a young boy. Your pain is sadly not unique. Another family member of mine was sent to Auschwitz and she somehow survived til the surrender. I don't think I need to tell you what she went through there. Yet hate is not on their agenda. It's hard to move on in life and grow as a person when you're full of hate or bitterness. (Yes, my family stretches across the globe.)
Sure there is still a lot of racism out there, but everyone? I think the current popular approach is to give tolerance and racism issues lip service in the media and in the political rings. However the underlying problems of misunderstanding, prejudice and the inability to understand that we are all human are still there. Humans instinctively band up against the unfamiliar.
Have you entered everybody's mind and examined their conscience? Or is it a thought or perception to make your own racism more bearable? That is my suspicion, but I can not mind read.

Ilaekae, I have a young heart too, many people here have, it is not a bad thing. Tendency to participate actively in life, take an interest in life around is young. Tendency to extreme way to resolve something that you can't accept (just by eliminating the person, for example), well, how can you describe this? About my family and WWII, I have many members of my family, uncles, aunt, grandfather who were soldiers in this war.
BTW, I don't think people who were drafted by their government by law of the country they happen to live in, carry the same responsibility as people who make the decision to start the war. Do they have a choice?
Your arguments, well I can't take them as logical. What today's people have to to do with crime of their country years ago before they were born. Some people are just apolitical, have other priorities. Because humans have limits. They don't think about past crimes because they have to deal with today's daily problem, like putting bread on their table everyday. Maybe it is flaws in character in their case, but I don't think they are bottom feeders.
And I don't understand, isn't it normal that children don't answer for their fathers sins? That's why on the other hand I think only generation who suffer during some events has a right for compensation, not their descendants which were born much later.
If you consider my remark about an young heart as a personal attack, which wasn't that at all, I'm taking it back and apologise.
Not accepting homosexuals, educated women, Asian race, dark-skinned people are in my opinion some sort of xenophobia, very human thing. Again because we have limits in understanding unknown to us, have limits what we can accept.
And all people who hate some unknown to them event or the whole race always have some explanation "why", logical for them, but not for me. Japanese are too wide term, it is a lot of different personalities, with different past and present and mindsets. how can you see them as one. That's a generalization, not logical in my opinion.
About religion. Just my opinion, not anything big, so don't get excited.
Norms of human behavior, religious laws and later laws of human society. I think they are very much connected, very similar in some aspects, don't you think? Their function is protection of human life and propriety, because that's what keeps society functioning. Not organised religion was maybe very first thing to appear together with consciousness. You got fire, you got fear. that's first religion, IMHO. You got fear, you got some limitations for human behavior. Outcast doesn't have laws. group of individuals can't live without. Religious laws, don't steal/ don't kill based on common sense. IMHO.
That's what I think. I realise you have a right to think anything you want. I was just kind of curious to hear more why. Thank you for explaining your position. although I don't agree. And don't think, please that I want you or anyone stop talking because I think differently. I'm very far from this. I might be curious but I don' take it personally at all.

Agreed, atleast in part, and not because I just "want to get baked" but for the simple fact that "drug" prohibition DOES NOT WORK. All it does is create criminals, invite black market interests to traffic in the banned substance, and encourage misinformation. The amount of lies and misinformation floating around out there about illegal drugs is STAGGERING. Some of it created by rumors with no way to verify, some of it created by the government to work toward their ends...Crack babies are a perfect example, turns out that no one has ever been born addicted to cocaine, and that poverty and broken homes has a more intense adverse affect on developmental behavior. The media latched on to it and the government encouraged the false reporting because it created furor that fueled Ronnie's War on Drugs. During the height of the craze camera crews were reported going into hospitals and filming crying black children as "crack babies" I am in no way saying that crack or cocaine is good in anyway. Infact it does need to be controlled, but controlling something is different that flat out banning, even for research. Also approaching societal ills in terms of War is stupid. Are you gonna go fight a war on depression?

That's true, there is more than just one reason that drugs should be legalized. That crack baby story was a crock... but I have already stopped reading and listening to mainstream media anyway. They report all sorts of nonesense that's meant to just attract eyes and ratings. Journalism isn't what it used to be :/

I also believe people are bad enough sober let alone inebriated. Somehow I don't think legalizing drugs will solve anything.
I think pot should be legalized and alcohol should be illegal because I've never heard of an angry pot smoker going a 100 miles an hour in a car while killing a few dozen people while on their way......but then again I don't think recreational drug use should be allowed anyway.....because if you act like an idiot sober....what makes you think being inebriated will make you any better?

Hmm I would beg to differ on this. Do you remember what happened during the prohibition? You don't want that again. The government has no business telling people what to do with their bodies. Drunk driving is illegal and people get killed but people who smoke pot which is already illegal also drive and kill people. Banning alcohol won't solve anything. People are still going to drink and drive drunk and kill people. Not only that but if it's illegal we will have more crime (mafia controlling drugs) and more home made hooch that makes people go blind.

Were "drugs" legalized, I seriously doubt usage would change much at all. There is probably a very small percentage of people who don't just because it is illegal, but the majority of people who don't use drugs don't want to. The fact is people that want to use drugs do. Regarding the legality, nobody does anything expecting to get caught. There are certainly drugs that do pose a serious health risk, and in no way should they be available at the local gas station. I would be happy to just see a drug policy that is based on scientific fact and not outrageous propaganda and misinformation. The problem with outright banning of a drug is that it basically hands control over to the black market, which is why you run into problems with gangs and violence. The illegal status doesn't seem to change the public's desire for it at all. Alcohol Prohibition in the 20s is a perfect example of that. Instead of "ridding the US of the death dealing scourge of alcohol" it just made a bunch of criminals rich (Kennedys)

Pot makes you paranoid.......I think driving under the influence of pot is less likely then driving drunk. Those that do drive while smoking pot have probably become immune to its effects.....but then again people that drink think they're immune too.

Ilaekae, the one thing I don't understand about your statement is that, judging from things you've said in the past, you obviously would not want to be judged by the actions of your government, but you have no problem judging others by theirs. By all means judge the Japanese government, but as far as I'm concerned the Japanese people have no more blood on their hands than you or I.
I'd also really love to hear the argument behind banning video games of all kinds.

Allow me to add another unpopular opinion I champion...
It's a possibility that an extremely high percentage of people who post in forums can't seem to read. (This should be good for another three or four pages at least...)
I SAID this...(I've added BF for emphasis)
"All people are racists to some degree, and I for one will never accept the Japanese as equals until they drop to their knees and apologize for the crap they did to those non-Japanese from 1932 to 1945."
I got back...
"So you don't accept 99% of the world as equal I take it"
(I still don't have an answer that makes sense on how I supposedly said THIS...)
"What I don't understand is why you'd consider...a Japanese kindergarden student as sub-human."
(I'm still looking for where I said THIS...maybe someone could point it out, please...)
...and to Cwn Annwn...
"(Yes, my family stretches across the globe.)"
(So did mine. 47 0f them died in the death camps in Europe.)
"Have you entered everybody's mind and examined their conscience? Or is it a thought or perception to make your own racism more bearable? That is my suspicion, but I can not mind read."
(Sadly, I can't either. Oh, and is this your way of making racism more acceptable? "Sure there is still a lot of racism out there, but everyone? I think the current popular approach is to give tolerance and racism issues lip service in the media and in the political rings. However the underlying problems of misunderstanding, prejudice and the inability to understand that we are all human are still there. Humans instinctively band up against the unfamiliar.")
And sve..."I don't think people who were drafted by their government by law of the country they happen to live in, carry the same responsibility as people who make the decision to start the war. Do they have a choice?"
I'm sorry, but in my humble opinion, they do. The consequences may be death at the hands of the masters, but they DO have a choice. It's happened many time throughout history.
"Maybe it is flaws in character in their case, but I don't think they are bottom feeders."
I'm glad, but in the context of your paragraph stating I'm not logical, you DO seem to infer that I DO think they're bottom feeders. Would you be kind enough to point out where I implied or stated this?
...and I'm a bit confused...you make this statement...
"And all people who hate some unknown to them event or the whole race always have some explanation "why", logical for them, but not for me. Japanese are too wide term, it is a lot of different personalities, with different past and present and mindsets. how can you see them as one. That's a generalization, not logical in my opinion."
...immediately after you made this one...
"Not accepting homosexuals, educated women, Asian race, dark-skinned people are in my opinion some sort of xenophobia, very human thing. Again because we have limits in understanding unknown to us, have limits what we can accept."
So...I'm a racist, but everyone else is a "very human xenophobe"?
Since you've stressed logic a number of times here, please enlighten me as to which of the immediately above I should pay more attention to. I seem to be suddenly incapable of logic.
AND lest we let glynn james get off scott free...
"Hiroshima and Nagasaki. No sides are innocent."
I totally agree. Especially after the evil empire of the US, Australia and Great Britain suddenly and without warning attacked the innocent Japanese asleep peacefully in their beds dreaming of puppies and world peace in 1941 (or was it 1932?...I'm never sure.) Why they didn't expect us to do that is beyond me, because they surely must have gotten news of the unimaginable atrocities we committed in Nanking, Manchuria, the Philippines and Korea. Even I would have trouble condemning them for using such weapons against us in...ummm...I'm a little lost here...are those cities in Idaho or someplace like that. I can't seem to find them mentioned anywhere in my history books...in fact...I'm having a bit of trouble finding ANY mention of our obscene sneak attacks and brutality against innocent men, women and children during that war (which we obviously started) anywhere in any of our history books...
Can you spell s-a-r-c-a-s-m-? Of course, meant with all due respect...
And you probably think this is pretty funny...
"Books of all sorts should be outlawed as ant-social and counter-productive."
But don't do it again...seriously. I'm wasting my time already answering for comments I never made. Having someone state something that stupid attributed to me might be a bit more than my shaky grip on reality can take.
I still hold with my original statement. Most video games don't educate, don't produce any measurable increase in either intelligence or creativity, and they definitely don't help in any way to prepare their users for a more productive life in society. I can't say the same for books, newspapers, or even playing stickball on a city street, which at least helps develop social and team skills and keeps you healthy and active.
And Okelvin just snuck in there, so...
To be perfectly clear, my problem IS with the Japanese government/establishment, and not it's people in general. I purposely used the word "Japanese" though, because I feel the common citizen refuses to stand up to their government on this issue. I condemn the average US citizen for the same thing when it comes to dictatorial abuse of power, institutional racism and sexism, religious intolerance and any other number of easily correctable ills that plague my own country. Those who don't speak against evil are by default supporting it by refusing to challenge it, no matter what their personal beliefs. And I think I answered you video game thing above...
And if I don't stir things up, who will? That's why they hired me...
...at 23Ē a day...pikers...

I thought this was unpopular opinions ;)
That's a wonderful argument in favor of a 'grey' area where more truth may lie, but life lessons teach me otherwise. However, the whole definition of 'conservative' is an unwillingness to change, and most Republicans are of the conservative persuasion. So if I had to pick a team and I needed a team not just of unity, but of creativity, I would select a non-Republican because by an associated definition they're going to be more difficult to work with if we're not totally homogenous in our beliefs. In my opinion, that's why the KKK and what seems to ME most racists vote Republican. :[ They strive for homogeny, change and difference is not their domain.
I also ask you to consider how many money grubbing scandals involve Republicans compared to anything else, combined. Don't give me that 'polical alignment doesn't matter'. Well even if you think it doesn't matter, the evidence we see would show that i may be ATLEAST an associated trait. There's usually something to guilt by association.
parenting, media, literature, friends, school
All factors that can be dictated by political alignment. In fact, that's the whole point of a political alignment, to collect and enforce common ideas such as information on parenting, media, literature which would naturally result in a change in your friends and even school.

Ilaekae, you can't be logical every time, sometimes you are, in other cases you are not. Thank God, because you have feelings and you're attached to dear to you things more than to some others. You last statement about Japanese government sounds more understandable for me, so I have no more questions about it. Everywhere in my post I wrote words "in my opinion", 'I think". So you may not like this opinion. I will be fine.
Racism could be form of xenophobia, it might not be, after your correction abut your dislike for Japanese government (not Japanese people) I don't think you can be called a racist or xenophobe. That's not racism, more like negative position about Japanese politics during WWII.
This is just my opinion, someone else could think differently.
About bottom feeders, I never said they were your words. I said "I don't think they are bottom feeders". But...saying about them not being equals to you, you didn't mean they are superior to you, did you?
"Since you've stressed logic a number of times here, please enlighten me as to which of the immediately above I should pay more attention to. I seem to be suddenly incapable of logic."
Sometimes you are logical, sometimes you are not, I repeat. You don't have to pay any attention to anything. I was interested to hear you thoughts, I heard them, I don't need anything else. No need to change your way of thinking because I don't agree with you. I'm OK with you not liking something or someone. It is just opinion of other person, why do you even care?
What else to say about this discussion? I respect you, like you, you are a good person, I'm glad you corrected your words. But if you have not done it, the same outcome, it would be fine too, because we don't have to deal with each other.
You can't be logical every time.

Add: Sorry, Cwn Annwn, I didn't see your first post above. How about we do something that seems to be in short supply here--accept what is written as literally what it says in the most common sense.
For example...I am/was a recognized "expert" in pre-press mechanical seperations (both CMYK and special mix colormatch) in my little pond (which, for reference, covers a large part of four states). I have been for longer than you've been alive, possibly. What this means is that without a single piece of reference, color chart, or match plate of any kind, I can literally color, screen by screen, just about any piece of line art you can come up with that requires flat colors, out of my head, and I can do it in 10% increments so accurately that 99% of the time, no changes have to be made at the proofing stage. This is NOT a common skill, even among my peers who also didn't have computers to do it for us. The closest modern equivalent is if you were to flat color a drawing of maybe downtown Cleveland in Illustrator by specifying only the screens for each CMYK color and shade WITHOUT EVER LOOKING AT THE ARTWORK YOU'RE COLORING UNTIL IT'S DONE OR THE COLOR ITSELF YOU JUST CREATED. Now, I would say, in at least my tiny little professional pond, that I have no equal in this area. Would you automatically assume that I considered everyone else in my field sub-human?
(Actually...I DO, but that's beside the point in this discussion...) :P

People are so uptight about racism and don't realise how natural it is. People are not equal so it's hnatural to try and save some time by classifying different groups differently. That's twisted logic but it's all part of sterotyping, some people just do it differently. We cna all agree considering someone a lesser just because of where their parent's parent's parent's parent's parent's parent's parent's parent's parent's parent's parents were born is stupid. Considering someone lesser than you for liking onions on their pizza however, is a standard for judging another person.

I guess that brings me to my own unpopular opinion.
Every game (in this case, video games) is educational. The very nature of play is entirely about learning. Some games educate poorly, and some teach you poor things, but they all educate to one degree or another. What they teach has very little to do with the game's theme (Monopoly isn't going to teach you anything about building hotels, just like Grand Theft Auto isn't going to teach you how to shoot someone, those are just the window dressing). This isn't to suggest that games can't be poor role models, though. They don't teach specific skills you can point at and say, "This is what I learned today!" Most video games teach things like pattern recognition and visual-spatial judgment (I know, I know, those are pretty vague terms). Sports teach different skills, and board games teach a different set as well.
Apart from that, I fully believe games to be capable of every bit of creativity and artistry as any other medium. They have different strengths and weaknesses to be sure, but there are things that games can do that isn't possible in any other medium.
Plus they're fun.

Blue mech, here are the definitions of racism:
racism
The belief that members of one race (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/race) are superior to members of other races
The belief that members of one ethnic group (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ethnic_group) are superior to members of another ethnic group.
The belief that capability or behavior can be racially defined.
Aggression (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Aggression) or discriminatory (http://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=discriminatory&action=edit) behavior towards members of a certain race or races.
Aggression or discriminatory behavior based upon differences in ethnicity (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ethnicity).
Ethnically or culturally discriminatory behavior exhibited by members of the racial, ethnic, or cultural group dominant within a society.
The practice of asserting or assuming racially or ethnically defined cultural dominance.
The perpetuation of racial, ethnic, or cultural dominance of some groups over others.
Opportunity inequality resulting from preferential treatment towards others of a similar cultural background.
The act of using political, judicial, civil, and educational systems to oppress one based on their ethnicity.
As you can see, is not accepting others look different, or eat different food, as you thought. Also Anthropologist disagree with you about that being a "natural" thing, is more like a made up concept that developed along with politics and religion, and has an reciprocal relationships with those two.
Groups that disagree and fight with each other are and will be made despite their race, using race only as an excuse to form a group in some cases.
Not that I´m trying to brake the rule about this being a thread to post opinions that people will automatically disagree on, is just to remind people what some "things" really mean, and why people are so uptight about it.

LCD screens, even the older ones (I use one from 4 years ago when I'm home), are vastly superior to CRTs once you get over the learning curve of the 8-bit color. It's sort of like that CMYK thing Ikaekae can do, because I can never guess how something will print out on a CRT. CRT also isn't sharp enough due to the nature of it's construction, the light from the cathode ray tube lights up more than one pixel. Sure it looks smoother but it's not accurate by any means. So suck it, CRTs!

Ilaekae: It's cool. My knickers are not yet knotted.
What I'm getting at is if one leaves a statement open such as in the earlier post, it is easy for a reader to assume something quite different to what the author of the statement intended.
Your example above provides a reference as to what you are comparing others to. You say few people are equal to you in terms of colour matching skill. It is not open to any confusion at all. However it is not the quotation in dispute. The following statement is the one in dispute:
"All people are racists to some degree, and I for one will never accept the Japanese as equals until they drop to their knees and apologize for the crap they did to those non-Japanese from 1932 to 1945."
If you had made a statement such as "I will never consider the Japanese morally/ethically equal" rather than leaving it as "equal", there would have been less opportunity to construe the statement as saying that Japanese were not equal to the rest of humanity. It also didn't help that the opener was "All people are racists to some degree." How's that for providing a framework of reference?
You talk about common sense. Hmm. We could test this out by taking the original post and having say a small test group of 150-200 people read it and tell us what they thought. If they all felt similarly to me and the few other people on the forum who responded, the conclusions would be either:
1. Most people can't speak, read, write or comprehend English as well as Ilaekae.
or
2. It was poorly written in the first place.
or
3. The intended point is exactly as you wrote it. (Japanese are less than other people of the world, or maybe more than. Such is the definition of "not equal" or "unequal". )
You tell me what is more likely.
Just to let you know I've run it by a few people to make sure I've not just suddenly had a minor anuerysm in my operculum and lost all sense of reading and/or linguistic comprehension.
All of the folks I've managed to ask can be considered very well read, so the likelihood of them being closet illiterate fools is quite small. I won't list their credentials because it will make me sound far more pompous than I'm already coming off as. Actually come to think of it, I've got an English teacher staying with me at the moment. She's at work at the moment, but if you think she can help me with my reading skills, I'm sure I can ask her when she gets back from work.
Other unpopular opinions that seem to have arisen;
- Yes, you do have to be extra careful when attempting to communicate in a solely written format. Innocuous comments can take on meaning you don't expect otherwise. Things can go quite pear shaped quite quickly.
- Seniority and age does not give one a monopoly on knowledge or logical thinking.
And for good measure, in a token effort to keep the thread in line:
- Men need to wear more make up.

Ah, Cwn Annwn, Ilaekae´s full explanation is in post Nº 186 on this page.
-I liked White Chicks too, but is no were near other movies I´ve seen.
- Acting normal in an unusual situation is funnier than making a fool of yourself in the same situation ( example: "Naked gun" series)
-Some Animals are smarter than most people know.
- Human expansion doesn´t necessarily mean the end to other species, some of them are already fully adapted to urban environments to the point of depending on it to survive. ( for example crows in Tokyo, rats....everywere, cats, dogs, pigeons, etc)
-Rainy days are not cheerful, but they sure have a beauty to them.
-"Jackass" is funny in a very primal sense.
- The ending of the tv series "Dark Angel" sucked and it was clear than they bluntly canceled it.

I read it Shamagim, it consisted of a lot of quotes from others with some of his explanantions thrown in.
I'm simply trying to explain to him why people read his post as they did. He (?)isn't shy or tactful about throwing about small comments about English comprehension so I decided maybe a dissection of his original post and why people reacted the way they did.
No one was putting words in his (?) mouth, just trying to illustrate the repugnance of the literal interpretation of the quote, "All people are racists to some degree, and I for one will never accept the Japanese as equals until they drop to their knees and apologize for the crap they did to those non-Japanese from 1932 to 1945." Ilaekae's claim is that people are running away with strange and illogical conclusions from that statement . I'm choosing to disagree.

Egon Schiele, author of turd paintings on par with middle age crisis women who pick up a brush for the first time because now they have a little time over and in third grade a teacher told them they had talent but they never got to explore it but now the kids have moved out and they only have the cat to care for so maybe they should try watercolor and do a little exibition at the local mall but they discover that it's harder than they thought to draw and paint so they decide to try to develop a style to hide behind so they can use the "it's a style" excuse for sucking donkeyballs and maybe they get cataract and rheumatism but it seems not being able to draw a straight line and just trembling with the brush all over the canvas actually makes artsy people even more excited so maybe they decide to further that and maybe also just keep drawing the same subject over and over again like for example malshaped people twisted in strange positions.
That's the stupidest thing I have heard in a while. Egon Schielle kicked your ass!
Legalizing drugs will be a major economic change. Drug creation and selling will be a major boost to some countries economies (Afghanistan, Colombia, etc).I'm guessing that they will be much cheaper, people will begin to notice even more and more between quality, maybe even governments will improve research to develop alternate, not so harming variants of drugs. With that, public advertising of drugs will become mainstream that's the only problem, cause then drugs will become as common as breakfast. But as I said, maybe drugs won't be as "bad" as they are now. People can demand more quality from something that is legal than from something that isn't. There would also be some social benefits! Less criminals, less people risking transporting drugs in their innards, and less ugly shit of this type happening.

Here's mine fellas -
I think Christians who died in the Roman Coliseum long ago died for a much different Christianity than the norm claim to follow today -
I think it's easier to bash than believe, and that a good majority who do the bashing don't know what their talking about -
I think the U.S. should get out of Iraq and get into Zimbabwe -
I think people in the U.S. can forget about their fellowman outside the U.S. and can become very, very close minded and almost cold -
I think Atheists that bash Christianity and speak of tolerance should practice what they preach -
I think a lot of artist's make too much crap that has no effect or no meaning for the world to grab on to -
I think scientist who believe that their is a God are open minded and humble, and are closer to finding the answers than others - (who would be a good example… oh yes, that’s right, Albert Einstein, a genius.)
Quotes from Einstein from Wikipedia –
I do not think that it is necessarily the case that science and religion are natural opposites. In fact, I think that there is a very close connection between the two. Further, I think that science without religion is lame and, conversely, that religion without science is blind. Both are important and should work hand-in-hand.[25]
I believe that Christianity among many other beliefs and faiths have been used as a source of power in malicious and twisted ways, but that is a reflection upon that person/persons, and not the faith it self. (ex. The swastika, originally a symbol in Hinduism, Jainism, and some Native American Tribes, literally flipped around and used as a symbol for the Nazi Party to invoke hate and fear.)
The Bible is a very valid and inspiring book, and more people might know that if they actually read it.
Christianity and Judaism (which you can’t have the first without the second) are the most persecuted faiths of all time. (oh wait, that’s a fact) This does not excuse them from being guiltless of it, though. In fact, some of that persecution has come from amongst themselves or one another.
The chicken came before the egg.
That Martin Luther King, jr. and the other black figures who fought for equality and his dream would be ashamed of the popularized “black” culture that exists today.
The Green Hornet shouldn’t have been canceled.
X-Men 3 was not a good movie.
Modern Art is like Anime. There are some out there that is awesome, but that is plagued by the reputation of it’s evil twin named Bland.
Women deserve more rights.
Egon Schielle was great (thanks Dan).

911 was facilitated by Americans. It was designed to catapult the country into a defensive posture against what those whom designed and facilitated it feared: Muslims, Arabs, and the idea of a growingly powerful Middle East. It was also designed to make those involved a great sum of money through war contracts and the general business of war.
.
You know Americans in general are very nice and generous people who would would do anything for a neighbor just so you know. I agree that it was put on by the American Goverment but not because they fear the middle east . All the top people in the goverment get there money from special interest groups . Everyone knows that . The middle east is about War money and OIL money nothing else . These people want that money. Also 911 gave the President and all his cronies the power to create Homeland Security and write in new laws which basically make America into a police state . The people who own the World Bank and the American Federal reserve bank want a one world goverment and the structure of that goverment to look more like a monarchy or dictatorship then a free will progresive democratic society . Anyways I could go on and on about this subject but believe me the American people are just ignorent or comfortable at the moment . Once it starts getting to bad though i promise you will see people up in arms .Americans are taught constitutional freedoms from childhood and it's only going to get so bad before something big happens .

ORLY? You're saying that UNDO buffers, Color replacement, Palettes, Color picking, Curves, No material cost, Lasso transform and Layers makes you less effective? Oh puhlease. Just because traditional art was first doesn't mean it's superior. Go back to stonecarving if you think that. The knee-jerk compulsion by traditionalists to fight tooth and nail for their moth-eaten medium is flagrantly pathetic and merely a blatant attempt to fart-elevate themselves up on the imaginarey high horse that is 'fine arts'.
That said, I think traditional methods of image production still has a few advantages, but overall, the rapidly evolving digital tools are coming out a winner, just like digital cameras are. The ability to quickly try out ideas makes it the best choice for concept art, imo. A concept artist who has spent an equal time with both mediums will generally find himself working more effectively with digital.
(You didn't make an analogy, so your flagrant attempt at mimicing my brilliance by appliance of copy-pasta is well out of order! Well out of order!)
Mr. Visions
July 24th, 2006, 01:47 PM
Your saying it's less cost effiecent and economical, not proving the effective side of your argument. You do have a point of digital's constant evolving and so forth, but do you carry around a laptop to sketch out ideas and observations of life around you? Can you paint a digital mural like the Sistine Chapel? Can everyone easily make an adjustment with the flip of your wrist without waiting for loading to complete? Don't get me wrong, digital has made things alot easier, but to go as far to say it's overrated and less effective is nonesense. Its still catching up in many senses as a medium. You speak of moth eaten medium, but what about you virus, crashing one? Foundations usually prove to be more effective and alot of the time underrated in the long run, my friend, it's what you grow from. And most artist will tell you that you benefit from having that background, enhancing your digital experience. Not having it is like people not taking the time to study the fundamentals of art itself and then calling themselves "Modern Artists". Now I know I might be getting slightly off topic, but all this adds up in the end. Digital is a quick (for the means od the deadline), highly industrial means of art (not saying it can't be a fine art or doesn't take time, but it's true), so yes, for the concept artist it is ideal. But so is a scanner -

Visions> I had a little trouble reading through that... You made some a "pointer/referal error" (I'm unsure about the proper grammatical term), like typing 'it's' or 'digital' when you meant 'traditional', and 'less cost effective' should be 'more'?
Anyways, I have used traditional media longer than digital. Learning the foundations does in no way require (cumbersome) traditional tools to be used. A foundation is just a mental library, it doesn't have much to do with on which surface you choose to place your marks on to learn.
As for effectiveness, it comes into play when you have made a mistake and need to fix it. Everyone makes mistakes to a certain degree, and it's just easier to fix them with digital tools. You can also experiment with color choices in a blink of an eye. I shouldn't have to mention how UNDO can be useful. I find myself trying to click it when I paint traditionally, or in some cases I make a bold change or experiment thinking I can just undo it or keep it in a seperate layer. Maybe the other head I drew fits better? BAM, lasso move!
I've never had a virus, but PS has crashed 5 times on me in 5 years, making me lose a total of maybe 2hrs of work in total. I make backups and keep things decentralized, so the risk of losing stuff is slim. A Silverfish ate my expensive watercolor brush recently though, along with some old papers I hadn't scanned. Just storing my papers takes up a third of my studio, and it's quite messy to keep track of all the thousands of papers, even if somewhat organized.
Booting a computer up takes less time than setting up a canvas and palette. However, I agree that it's faster to grab a pencil and paper, and the presence and resolution you get can't be replicated with digital tools, yet. In 15 years we might have Photoshop CS-12 and Painter MXIV running on a 1200dpi wacom paper screen you can roll up and put in your pocket. Ooh, I get a boner just thinking about it!
