Hi folks!
could use a little help on this one.

This is supposed to be some kind of landing platform.
I dont really like the big dice-like block in the middle of that platform, but i donŽt know how to go on.
IŽd be really greatful for any suggestions.

The dice-like block is supposed to be the entrance to the hangar. So mif you got any ideas go right on about telling me... i really need some input.

Hey!

nice image! Nery nice sky and the rocks and gravel are impressive! Did you use reference or photos for that? good job!

The concrete blocks do need more colour work imo, the skylight and the rocks around would make a reflection instead of having it all in the same spectrum. The shadows would be more like the rocks and the highlight would be a little bluer. Actually, the gravel and other stuff on the foreground feel more daytime than the sky... Hmm.

About the block: how would people get in the building from a spaceship?

To solve the problem my 2 cents are to go back what the building's function is.
- Do the spaceships need to be tethered to dock?
- Do they need refueling or other equipment?
- Should there be a com-tower/center/whatever to overlook docking?
- Does the platform or the station need searchlights, communications equipment and so on?
- Is the sation meant as defense outpost? Does it need guns?
- Do the spaceships go inside or do they stay outside? The first would require a hangar or large doors.

Maybe put in a spaceship there to make it more interesting!

In that way explore the function of the building and you'll fill the gaps.

i've tried painting over a 3d landscape rendering before, and it's a LOT harder than it looks - i'm really impressed by this. I think Erik is on the right track for suggestions tho - get into the universe of your picture a little bit more, try and imagine what practical things would be around a docking/spaceport area, then add those things to the scene...maybe landing lights along the ground that lead to it? maybe some kind of umbilicus to recharge the ships....lots of stuff you could do :) great job!

Wow, this looks amazing..
I understand the problem you are having, but I cant think of anything that Erik hasnt said.
Maybe just fill a page with options for function and design, and then decide which ones you like best.
Just open your mind and the options are endless =)
Keep it up!

I really appreciate the hints and tips youŽve given me so far!

And as soon as I find the time, i am going to take those things youŽve said into consideration and start reworking the picture.
IŽll state the process of that work in this thread...
I am really really thankful!

i'm confused as to why the dock looks so crisp and clean and the rest of it looks like it was created or taken at a lower res.

I think if you add some sort of detail that suggest the scale of this entry this will help you alot. If this is man made there would be many more intricate details that might me closer to human size. Lookout windows or perhaps some sort of instruments that detect speed or help pilots come down to the bay to land.

it has really benn of some great help what you wrote, and iŽll try to take it into consideration.
unfortunatley i had to think the whole project over, and therefore have to start all over.

But it is going to be sometzhing similar to this and iŽll post the stuff when i get to work on it!

Thanks again... you really helped me, and pointed out some things that I didnŽt think of.
