And I thought my fear of muppets was irrational, behold the pickle lady:

Reminds me of one of my middle school friend's irrational "fear" of the color orange. I think at least one of us smacked her.

OK, I have to apologize, Steph, because when I read the title of the thread, my mind went in an entirely different direction.

Sorry 'bout that...

I have a friend in who was afraid of balloons in high school. For all I know, she still is. Not so much afraid of the balloon itself, but it can be sort of scary if it pops suddenly. I could see where that comes from, I guess.

Mustard and pickles, I'm guessing it's a ploy for attention. A very successful one!

As an admin/mod for a dirty comic forum, I have to say that long warty green things seem very normal to me, so I don't understand this at all...

this girl makes me sad...i want to beat her unconcious and throw her into a pool full of pickles.i wonder than what would happen if she wake zup ? Would she start to love pickles and moustard after some seconds of pure agony or would she just go "Insta-Death" ?

Some of the replies to that vid are just awesome :D

From the piano backing, to the soft focus, from the phallic nature of her picklicious phobia to the kind of pickle-shaped nose she possesses, this is GREAT television. I'd happily pay my licence fee (a British thing) just to watch this. I want more pickles, ENCORE!
This is so overtly sexual! Freud would have a field day diagnosing her!

i wonder if shes afraid of cocks to ?

I coudl understand the hate, but not the fear.

Then again, I am piss scared of any type of bug or insect..

I remember being really young, watching arachnophobia, and then went I went to bed there was a spider on my pillow. I nearly shit myself.

I can understand fear of dogs, even birds, but pickles? How the hell do you get to the stage where you are deathly afraid of pickles? Still, even if it is a ridiculous fear, seems pretty cruel to send her into a pickle factory :nohope: .

here's another, fear of balloons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62t8CwD9rWQ&mode=related&search=phobia). If you do a search there are a couple more.

It's most likely an association with a supressed traumatic experience. The actual trauma has been buried but the feelings associated with that trauma are transferred onto a seemingly innocuous item.

To quote Mel Brookes from "High Anxiety"... "It's not heights I'm afraid of. It's parents!"

that is both hilariously funny and horribly sad.

I would lock her in a room filled with pickles for a week, with plenty of drinking water and delicious pickles to eat. Or she can starve.

Oh!! man that is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time, LOLOL!!
I can't stop laughing. And I'm deathly afraid of laughter!!
Thanks Steph

I hate Maury he's such a fuck head. But I can't stop laughing at these ladies, and I know it's not funny, but man I just can't help it.

Haha, yes, my mind went down the schlong path too when I saw the first 3 seconds of this video. I love Maury's approach of "Well you say you're terrified of these, so let's shove TONS IN YOUR FACE! That'll cure ya good!" For the record, I also believe it's an attention ploy. If it isn't, I doubt that fear of pickles is her only problem in life.

Bitch slaps all around!

omg, i think i'd like to slap her. yes i know, traumatic experience, irrational object beacame source of fear instead, etc. - but its just stupid for a bystander all the way. i mean, people wiht rather common phobias (spiders, bees) always drive me nuts, when they get out of rooms, cars, dont want to eat or sleep whatever...

Maybe she was raped by a clown holding balloons?

Or maybe the other watched her parents get slaughtered by pickle wielding mercenaries.....

Maury is a total dick.

I like how the tags for that video are "maury povich phobia".

Now there's an understandable fear.

someone should turkey.. no, PICKLE slap her in teh face!

on a more serious note, i remember quite vividly having a similar phobia that ruled over my life around the age of 7 and 8. doctors couldnt work out what it was, but im pretty sure it was psychological. a lot of the time, food made me nautious. i loved food, dont get me wrong, but it just made me nautious. it was more the notion of being nautious, and the act of vomiting, that caused the most anxiety. i dunno, i mean if ever the time came i did vomit, it wasnt that bad, but i would go into panic attacks, shake uncontrollably, go through rapid weight loss, etc etc, all because of this fear. damn near ruined my early childhood. know it stuffed my parents around something shocking too, seeing me like that. i dubbed it "the worries".

it can be a serious thing. im not so sure this would entirely be a cry for attention, because like this pickle girl, i too attached an irrational amount of fear to an otherwise unworthy thing.. mine just so happened to be throwing up. go figure.

mm. poor kid. silly, but poor all the same.
