Once a week we pick a random piece of artwork from www.elfwood.com and pimp it. Maybe it will be yours?

Visitor reactions:

"Genius. A world wide phenomenon in the making."

"This is horrible and mean! What kind of people are you??"

"Yes, brilliant!! [Pimp My Elfwood] looks like lots of fun! It's educational, funny, AND just a bit harsh (but not cruel) - what's not to love?"

Amazing...

I saw another thing like his but it was young kids drawings (not stick figures but nearly) of monsters and super heros getting redone with a tablet... it was so cool

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Do you get permission from the original artists first? It might not be very good, but it's still their work.

I've been excited to see some response to this as my reaction is the same as Davi's. Elfwood holds a special place in my heart (as the first place I discovered on the internet to post one's art) and while it is definately a completely different focus than CA, it also seems far different from DA (in a good way). It's just so large, though... it's easy to get lost.

In the wood.

And while I can't see this being anything but a good thing for the artists who get pimped, I would have liked to see links to their glade.

Props!

Definitely made me laugh. Heh, Elfwood can use all the pimping it can get...

Or we could just pimp the Critique center here...

I feel like Dogfood about Elfwood, I had a gallery there as a teen. Damn, how long WAS that...

I'm sorry - I disagree strongly, I seem to have misplaced my rose tinted glasses.

Elfwood happened to be where I did my first internet art stop-off, but after a while it became the whole "I commented on your gallery, how come no comments back yet?" deal.

A lot of Elfwooders were full of nothing but praise for even the crappiest efforts. Some tried to give a bit of critique but were often shot down or received hysterical upset responses.

In essence it was DA with a "high fantasy" theme (and with eventually scifi and fanart sections). Sure there are quite a few good artists on Elfwood, but same goes for DA.

Hehehe, this is so awesome.

I remember when I wanted to get an Elfwood gallery (back when it was called Lothlorien, and only had like three pages of galleries), but didn't think I was good enough. Ah, memories...

Oh come on, like you guys were never lined-paper-wizard-drawing teenagers? Lay off!

(...mind you, this is coming from the president of the Chibi Manky83 fanclub :P)

I wonder, what if we started a thread of our artwork that we did as young teens? If anything, to give the younger artists here some hope that yes, there is life after Elfwood. ;) I know I still have some ghastly Sonic the Hedgehog character sheets that I did in 8th grade lying about...

That would be awesome, I love to see old embarassing artwork. We could pimp our own young teenage drawings!

I actually think I might have made a thread like that a long time ago, but nobody really posted anything in it.

lol. I never claimed otherwise. Most of us probably started off by drawing little smudgy elves, cars or gunmen in the margins of our lined paper schoolbooks. It was great fun. I'm sure a lot of us have pictures we'd like to forget we ever drew. :bashful:

Folks here seem happy to dig it in to DA. Someone was suggesting that Elfwood was different or better case, I'm arguing that it isn't.

Either way, whatever floats your boat. It's what you decide to do with your art and how you push yourself, not where you choose to showcase it.

Dug it for you, it's not exactly the same tho, I don't want to redo my embarassing art, I want to leave it alone.

If anyone wants to pimp it (please?) here's (http://bookwurm.deviantart.com/) my dA account.

As a side note, it might not be technically great, but the octopus in the toilet is still my favourite piece.

hahaha what the hell, some people got really upset about pimpmyelfwood. i hope they don't call the internet police and ruin everything :(

god speed pimpmyelfwood,god speed...

I like the idea of this way to learn what you're doing wrong but unless the name of the original artist is there somewhere, this is art theft and punishable by law. Also, I personally think that the artist should at the very least be asked if he or she is okay with the fact that someone's taking his or her art and redoing it. I don't think I personally would be comfortable with it.

Being the original artist of this piece, I would like to point out that it is only common curtesy to ask the artist first, or at least put a link to their gallery up. It's not copyright that has me disgruntled right now; it's the fact that some artists, myself included, don't want their artwork "pimped". I don't feel honored, frankly I feel rather insulted (not because I feel that you consider my artwork inferior, but that I was not consulted in this) and I am half tempted to ask you to take this down, if you please.

(I'm not trying to be priggish or anything, I'm simply trying to make a coherent arguement. I know there are artists on Elfwood who wouldn't mind this, so I do hope that I haven't offended anyone too badly.)

What lawyer is going to take that case anyway...

From the messageboard on PME

we are not communists here in the US we do not allow taking of what one person worked on and disfiguring it like commies in Iran etc do you must stop doing this to artworks that are not yours use originality and creation powers that god has given you from birth to make new artworks not disfigurements of the art of children and those less able than yourself you are not using your gifts wisely that will not go unpunished remember who is watching you at all times everything you do will be remembered by you and god on the day you die and you will regret all your theiving and sinning as you go to the fire do not be a communist

IT'S THE COMMUNISTS! I KNEW IT! God hates communists, children! I love how he subtly rips on her by saying it's children's artwork. Wait...since when are there communists in Iran?

It was infuriating trying to find a place where I could snip that passage off, considering it's one huge sentence.

I doubt any permission will be asked since the majority of elfwood galleries are long-abandoned.
