DEADLINE
SUNDAY, JULY 9th
The way the deadline works: if deadline is on a Sunday and your image is posted on that Sunday 23:59 your local time it's a good entry.
In fact - as long there is Sunday somewhere on the planet your entry is ok. I will make the poll sometimes Monday afternoon my time (GMT +2) yet i'll have a look at the last entries.

Visarra - Orc Female Beauty
Every race has beauties but Visarra went beyond that. For orcs she was unreal. And to make the story even harder to believe... her love affair that casted her out of her kingdom... was with a Dwarf named Gunka... they both had to be outcast. Unreal as it seems.. the story is true.
Now... concept! :yayca:

Sadly, forbidden love is a forever kind of theme. A small part of me would have liked to see a happily-ever-after to Brokeback Mountain, but the other part knows happily-ever-after really only works for Disney and audiences under the age of ten. Tragedy is the most appreciated form of drama for a reason.

I'll be entering something in here. it seems my stuff is never up to par with everyone elses' stuff, but I'm definately trying nonetheless. these Chows are definately a way to help generate my little imagination machine.

Sounds funny, but...I'd like to see a more open ended CHow sometime.

This is pretty damn open ended. The topic is: Beautiful Female Orc.

Beautiful is in terms of the race, so really anything you draw you could say is beautiful (although I dont doubt the winner will have femininity to it).
And Orc doesnt have to mean any of the things the established fantasies have defined them as.

How much more openended does it get?

Well since the one she is currently engaged to is a dwarf, I doubt it will be a hot babe that looks like elves.

Visarra Gunka: wife to the dwarf governor Osik Gunka, exiled daughter of the orc King Bassak Albrog, entrpeneur, fashion designer, international beauty and style guru. Visarra's natural beauty became apparent in early childhood and as the daughter of King Albrog she was in a perfect position to be groomed for an appropriate arranged marriage. When she defied her father's will and married her true love, Osik Gunka, both were forever banished from Albrog's kingdom, never to return. Following their secret marriage, Visarra and Osik took up residence in the dwarf territory of Bormak, where Osik holds the governorship. Being a governor's wife in exile from her own people has become a privledged but somewhat dull life for Visarra over the years. She busies herself with managing and caring for her beauty. She's found within herself a strong creative impulse she channels into clothing design and formulating skin care products from exotic natural ingredients. Dwarf women in particular, she believes, need all the help she can give them. One of her more noted fashion innovations are the shoes she's pictured wearing. She designed them specifically with the dwarf woman in mind. The fad never really caught on, sadly. Like many an extraordinary outcast, Visarra Gunka was ahead of her time.

And you all have my solemn promise... there were no orc ladies in my sketchbook before today. :) Seriously though, the ladies really are not my forte'. I really have to pay attention to the reference. And I have no idea what I'm doing for the clothes. My ref only has... ahem...the shoes. ;)

And Dile, I just looked at your sketchbook. On page 11 there's this 3d render of a mask like thing... is that... a Lego Bionicle head? It looks like it could be. Legos rock.

Finly: that pair of undies is reaaaally riding up her crotch, for your information. Must Be the tiredness right? Otherwise pretty sexy. For an orc of course. Which make me think: what is beautiful in orc terms anyway? Tusks you can hang your helmet on. A sparkly emerald skin teint. Extra grizzled ears or super strong er, muskus? Er, anyway ...

I love that sketch Landau. I have no clue how I'm going to approach this, if at all. I tried and tried and every sketch just went in the garbage. Hmmmm... I wish there were more orc references. it's the anatomy that's driving me crazy!

I did a yahoo image search, and although there arent a ton of female orcs, there are a few to get reference from. Lots of them look like female human body builders times ten. I went in a different direction though, because it sounds to me like Visarra is the exception to the rule times ten.

I am a little mystified by your guys need for reference.
Why would you need to go out there and look at what other people think orcs look like in order to produce another image of an orc? Orcs don't exist, so the word reference isn't in order here. Unless you need reference for anatomy (which is mishapen humanoid) use your imagination, take what you know from LOTR and Warcraft and step out of it.
Some creative thinking is in order, people.

I think the use of reference and its value is a point that will always get debated. I, for one, always feel like I'm getting barked at to use more reference than I do. In addition to anatomical reference, looking at things other people have done before can help you identify trends to follow, or veer away from. In any event, no matter how creatively one thinks they think, no one works in a vacuum, and I think its wise to pay attention to that as a part of the process.

There is also the (debatable) arguement that working only from within, one tends to repeat onesself. Looking for reference from outside is one way to combat that tendency. I've never known anyone to have an imagination that was truly infinite.

Neo- try adding cool colors to your shadows and warm colors to your highlights .

takes second look- the highlights are fine just get rid of the heavy black outline.

the black fllattens the piece. good start though.

Landauart: Thank you for the help, I'll use it. I've only been coloring over black and white renders for a short time and I need all the help and feedback from other sets of eyes that I can get. I'm actually surprised with how far I've gotten though. I've never really felt like working from photo reference was once of my strong points. I certainly feel like I've exceeded what I thought I was capable of previously, and I want to push this as far as I can before the deadline, so believe me, your advice (and anyone else who has some) is really appreciated.

Dile: oh I wouldnt make fun of you, I liked it, Bionicle or not. It just has the feel of the heads on those toys, which incidentally also wear masks. Heck, I'd work for Lego if they called. Nothin' wrong with that. Your sketchbook thread is really great. Look at you go with that workspace! If you saw my workspace you'd see a wacom, a laptop, a small table in the corner of a coffeeshop and the empty cup which previously contained my fifth dose of caffine that day.

Landauart, update... still working on your suggestion, but I need to break for tonight. But you were totally right, its really helping.

Thanks Define. I am trying to take my art in a direction like Skottie Young/ Humberto Ramos "more urban street style" but still give it a soft render and make it work for concept art. Ill probably only end up making a big mess though.

Oh yeah, the dwarf's a chick dwarf in my concept, is that okay?
This one's for Marco Nelor, hehe :)
Description:
In Orc society exeggerated features in the female body like a large sized breast, belly and thighs, are idolized (think Venus of Willendorf). The more you have on you and the more you show it off, the more you will progress within the society and the higher will be the rank of the mates you could choose from and eventually the less you would have to work, therefor female orcs are all almost completely nude most of the time aside from body paint and accessories to make their features look bigger and more impressive and tend their bodies according to the ideal. It's a non-stop contest, and orcs know not the meaning of sublime.
Visarra triggers something different and utterly uncommon in the male orcs: mystery, intrigue. She is extremely clothed for a female orc, quiet, not so outwardly focused, completely different. The reason for her nature: she doesn't care for the non-stop contest that is the orc society, and quite likes working, helping her ill father, once a powerful figure amongst his people. Although she isn't interested, everyone's interested in her. The males want her, the females hate her.
All she wants is quiet, but the tension is high. It doesn't take long before she goes more further away from her people every time she needs to go out to bathe in the river, or to do a daily chore.
Further away and further up, further then any orc scout. Suddenly, someone different, which her eyes are not accustomed to see. not one of her own, someone small, equipped for war, a spy. She attacks it.
How this became a romance with the female dwarf Gunka, is unimportant, but yet the outcome. Upon discovering the affair, both societies rejected the ones which once were their own.
To live alone, with no one but eachother they are destined.

-Stav

Nice orcs so far. Did mine at work on some photocopy paper and my sweaty hands buckled the paper so bad it was nearly impossible to finish.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f162/mekese2000/orc2.jpg

Visarra daughter of Varkaak and Brakka, her human looks much prized among orcs was legend. The female Orcs of her tribe jealous of her looks spread a vicious rumour that her father was a human and she and her mother where outcast. Interesting note around the time she was born the humans and orcs where on friendlier terms and use to trade which other. A certain human use to deliver milk to there tribe but it can not be proven if he did have relations with there mother. Visarra fell in love with a dwarf and married. As she use to say its not the size of the man but the size of his axe that counts.

Visarra was a dutiful and loving wife to Gurg, the fearsome leader of the Orc race. Gunk the cunning dwarf wished revenge on the Orcs for the massacre of his family and friends. Late one night he stole in to the Orc city with a fine leg of pigflesh (Orcs just love pigflesh) and wooed the defenceless Visarra away with his fine lure. To this day no one knows what became of the loveliest Orc that ever lived...

great entries - this one will be fun.
i'll be on the road the next days so there is no more time for me to work on this :(
No ref. Tried to go after the african anatomy - since for me it has that wild beauty.
I also tried not to make her look like a "masked/maked-up human" a la Star Trek & Co. I'm not too happy with the concept. In fact i was just fooling around looking for shapes and lines of the face and after one B&W version of the portrait i kept on going since i love doing the breasts too and so on.. i sort of got carried away until the colors and all.
So.. pff.. here it is.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d105/afantana/Oblio_visarra_001.jpg

She was so ugly when she was little... who would have thought she will develop like this? All her childhood she was ridiculed by the orc kids and all only to be venerated for her beauty as she got a close to her 20s. She hated them for that.
Gunka was a very special dwarf too. Very shy, he had no beard, he was skinny and with short hair... and as an artist he met her spending all his money for a contract - she had to pose for him. He was looking to paint "freaky" stuff... and had no idea he will fall in love. Nobody expected this.. not even themselves. They left knowing that they will be banished. They were declared banished after their departure, nobody knows where they are.
A Gunka original... costs fortunes these days and the paintings keep coming.
This one... cost me 800 cows. (fozzy.. you have a long time to reach that many ;) )

A lot of great entries upto now. I really like this topic and enjoy the actual results.

@oblio: Altough I see your idea of wild beauty and like your rendering, I'm rather disturbed by the goth latex like cloth. It seems to lack the "orcish style". Personally I like the image of orcs as "wild archaic honourable warriors" And a this outfit would rather fit some evil wizardress or necromancer. (just my personal opion) ;)

@ cakeypigdog : lol, very funny idea and colour. a "barock" Rubens' like orcisch beauty. I really like her tender look, She seems very friendly and happy.

@ blinkythemouse: Thought of the same thing. The pose and composition have a nice dynamic and flair. I'm looking forward to the finished piece.:)
Ps.: Could you give her some neat, cool leather armor? Please?? :)

@Trevor : The face looks good. Looking forward to the rest.

Hm, getting tired.. ... but some many other good entries. will try to give some comments for the rest tomorrow. All of your pieces deserved it.

well.. i am aware of that... people ussualy want to see things looking like they know they should look. I agree that the "costume" doesn't fit the fantasy setting - perfectly - surely some other clothing could mix the elegance needed for such a character and the rest of the settigns.
Hoever i felt like puching things a bit - cloth and fur... is for every orc. She dresses with style - like a star.
And to suit her orcish nature - her panties are straped with metal rings to her body.
anyway.. she is the leading character in the new formed family - she will ewear whatevers she desires. The little dwarf can only agree :)

http://home.comcast.net/~samsausum/Djehuti_CHOW32.jpg

Visarra had never asked to beautiful. A Helen of Troy amidst the snow and feral wilderness, her beauty was her curse. Scrutinized since birth by the warlords of every clan in hopes she would wed into their own line, she watched as armies of orcs slaughtered each other in her name.
Maybe that's why she did it. She didn't love the dwarf. She was destned never to know real love. But somehow, she had to make it end. She had to escape from the eyes of those around her, and so she contrived her own banishment by sleeping with the grotesque little thing. Shortly after the elders' reluctant judgement of banishment, she left her dwarven 'lover' so that she might roam alone in the desolate north. They say she wanders there still, the most beatiful orc - Visarra and her tragic beauty.

FINAL:

http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/8607/blaisechow32orcfem2589e15jg.jpg

Visarra, daughter of Supreme Orc General Tarkkus, was the most admired, and feared, warrior in the land. She embodied the ultimate qualities of a warrior Orc and was seen as the epitome of her race. Her ruthlessness in battle knew no equal and even her fellow warriors found themselves shaken when witnessing her brutality in combat. General Tarkkus was also shaken - by Visarra’s unlimited ambition. Though she was his own daughter, He knew it was only a matter of time until Visarra eliminated him in her quest for total domination. He exiled her with a fabricated charge of an affair with a dwarf, knowing the population would shun her and offer her no aid. But he knows, deep down, it’s only a matter of time until she returns, and if the rumors are true, it will be while leading an army of dwarves she has enslaved to her service and trained in the dark art of war.

Ostracized by her own people, but revered by all other races who laid eyes on her, Visarra was a product of the battle of the Osiris, where the orc kingdom was overthrown by the Doppleganger armies. For a period of 12 weeks, the Dopplegangers reigned over the kingdom, burning, destroying and plundering. The men were slaughtered, the women were raped and captured. In the future, all of the offspring of the raped orc women were taken to slave camps where they served out their sentence and were murdered shortly after. All of them .... except "her".
He was Gunka. The most prized of the doppleganger's slaves. He was massive in strength, his arms thick as three trunks, his hair long, woolen, and sheened like the night. He was enslaved for 13 long years before he made his escape. But he couldnt escape without her. She was like nothing he had ever seen. carrying the strong body of her orc herritage; lips that were full and tender, eyes piercing and wild...but like the dopplegangers, skin that was smooth, pale, and emotionless, hair as long and as silky as down feathers. For an orc, she was Beautiful . Years after he brought her back to her village, he visited night after night in secrecy via the dwarfish built tunnels that ran beneath the orc city. Until she bore his child. She was marked for death, to be hanged in front of the entire civilization as an abomination.
Now once again, with her male savior, she flees a scornful existance from a city full of hate.

once again walnut...u can call me the M.Knight Shalloman of the art bunch. i HATE going through the approach everyone else goes through. so i always take a different route.
"nothing about her reads orc."

an orc is a fictional character...u ever seen one?
If everyone says this is a smiley face :spam: ...is it? or is it spam?

in my world, an orc is what i say it is. go against the grain, my brother.

Love ya walnut. :)

PS her head is small, but its cuz her hair is HUGE and her shoulders are too. i wanted it to look dat way.

This was done quickly for a laugh so its lacking a bit of er, fineness to say the least. Shes a classy gal though? For an orc I mean.

Taken from the Chronicles of Gor’Nok Stone-Fist. In his own words:

“....She Is a terrible beauty that Visarra. Queen of the Blood-Claw Clan. The last clan still holding out against the onslaught of my hoard. Standing heads above most warriors , her neck is that of an ox and her arms stronger than a bear. She is built steady as the Fortress Red-Rock that she holds. Coming from finest stock our offspring would be a magnificent sight to see. Why she chooses a stubby little dwarf as her mate instead of The mighty Gor’Nok is lost to even me....”

Visarra was a slave until the horde coulden't find somebody but her to replace the old butchler(a very unpleasent job for an ork) who died because of a desease caused by his canibal needs.

I'll refine and touch-up (and maybe add some tats) if I still can manage it, but here's my final.

http://www.leversandpulleys.com/uploads/Craig_Houghton_CHOW23_Visarra3.jpg

From the Journal of Hop Wheatly, Barkeep - At first I made my way over there to throw them out. I run a clean place. No Orcs. Then, I shut up. She was beautiful. I jammered a bit, but my jaw was loose and I stopped trying. She could stay, anytime. It was that poor excuse for a dwarf that I wanted to toss. I didn't of course, because then she'd leave too. I couldn't risk that.

Marco nelor : Thank you for your kind words.

My appologies for not replying sooner ( and not offering proper feedback for any of the pieces in the thread) , crunch time at work interferes with my forum 'duties' as it interferes with my illustration time :).

The original is still a rough sketch..it holds little extra details , it is only twice as large in pixels. Will send it over as soon as I get home.
