Perhaps it was a bad purchase, but I bought this:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/080695891X/qid=1053563052/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-1069844-8268919?v=glance&s=books

Drawing the human body: An anatomical guide - by Giovanni Civardi

THe book doesnt present any course to go through of learning the human figure/anatomy - it just presents it as it is and names the many parts and describes them sometimes elaborately. I'm just wondering how the hell I'm supposed to learn from this book. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hey Phait,
Some books are great for finding direction on learning anatomy but nothing beats doing actual life drawing. Maybe you should seek out drawing workshops in your area. Or, maybe you have a gf you could coax into posing for you?

Even just getting out there and sketching people doing their daily routines is bound to help ya in the long run.

You might also check out this site. (http://www.fineart.sk/) Be sure to check out their link to the Loomis books, you should be able to get some free direction on anatomy in book form there.

if you are looking for a great anatomy book check out this one

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0781731941/qid=1053574141/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/002-3421396-4005649

it dosent come with any instrustions but its full of pretty pictures to draw from.

this book will show you in detail where muscles attach to the bones, that is one of the most important things to learn.

Phait, you never learn from just looking at the pictures and names. And never from one book alone. I usually try to copy from the books I own and to learn that way. I found this immensely helpful in my life drawing class, when not being able to see a part of the body (eg. being blocked by a mobile radiator for the model) and for understanding how the muscles attach to the bones. Why not take a look at the Middle Class section and browse the "Anatomy for Middle Class Artists" thread and you'll see what I mean.
