I would pop out a few more highlights on these, and knock back the pieces behind the transparency in the 3rd sketch. As of right now the forms are somewhat ambiguous, and because these are so gorgeously designed I want to see more!

Staz Johnson - You're the second person who's brought up Burrough's Mars books. I love those books (though their views on women and happy slaves are somewhat dated to say the least), but the only connection is that the Mars books were probably what introduced me to the idea of airships.

This is for a comic book idea I've been kicking around for nearly 10 years now. Still no idea how to pull the art off in a practical amount of time.

Pixeldragoon - Dangit, I still like the bottom 2/3's of that painting! And I did a lot of growing on it too. I'm painting a whole lot faster now than I did before it, and with more confidence even if 4 out of 5 commentors hated it.

PeterLee - Yeah, I'd be a happier man if I could sculpt for a livng. I can totally understand why Giger doesn't paint anymore.

easy tiger! - well, I felt like it would be good not to have the sail completely blocking out the body of the ship. I should cut out the center section too so there's a shot down the center of the deck area.

I can't remember exactly what the sail ship in Tron looked like. I think my style is a little different than Syd Mead's , so maybe I'm safe. Soemone else said it looked like a Bajoran sail ship, that's probably closer but again I don't remember what that looks like very well.

Eventually I'll do a few design variations for the sails.

I'm going to start a dragons and airships thread in the sketches and WIP section since this topic has been getting a good response.

a bit of shadows and light might have helped it a bit more
