Hey

The semester is over and now I finally have time to post some stuff! It's been hard since my art classes have either been Art history and 2-D design (the study of 2-D graphic design and design elements). Next semester, I'll be taking some drawing classes so maybe then I can show you some homework that I actually have pride in.

Here are some sketches that I did in my free time, apart from class...Or durring class, when I should've been listening. I have a whole mess of new stuff but I wanted to see what people thought about my recent works done not only with pens and Markers, but water-color sticks.

I know this is the daily sketchbook section but I doubt I'll be able to get new stuff in daily.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments or feedback anyone has to give. I know this stuff must seem second rate now, especially with all the great new tallent that's popped up here in my absence.

Enjoy

Awesome dinosaurs! I think my favs are the grayscale images. Some of the color ones have too much contrast going on and it kind of distracts from the lineart / composition.

Keep it up!

thanks. I'm glad you guys think they're okay. I was wondering if anyone would pick out the little perspective issue with the allosaurus eating the stegosaurus. I just noticed it myself. He's standing in the forground while his leg is planted on the stego which appears to be too far back.

Thanks again. a'ight, peace-out.

hey there Exo, nice stuff, i really like your web site too. you've encouraged me to get a bit darker:chainsaw: i'd love to see you try blending and smooth gradations with your markers, though...just a thought...

Thanks man. I'm glad you liked my stuff. What I've been using was the warm gray prismacolor scale, 10%, 30%, 40%, 70% and 90%. For lighting and highlights, I have a white pigment marker which is more opaque, almost like paint. You're right about the gradation as It's bugged me too. I have prismacolor clear blender but I get the impression that it's meant to be used on a thicker, glossier paper as on my sketchbook, it really just makes things bleed more.

...Btw, welcome to the darkside :evilbat:

Here's a new take on an old creature of mine. It's derivitive of a bit of creative writing like a lot of my stuff is. It's actually from a story that I've been fooling around with since highschool. I think it's more of a biproduct of my creature ideas as I they need a story. Either way, it keeps me busy.

You can see some obvious ways in which I've changed it. basically, want it to look as alien and unfamiliar as possible, straying from familiar associations for terrestrial life. It's a machine/organism that artificially imposes adaptations on itself. It doesn't breed, it replicates and engineers itself to take whatever form that it may need to serve a collective.

feedback is welcome.

i think it looks a lot like the giger Alien, dont know if thats what you're goin for or not...

of all your sketches i like the dark riders the most..

what direction would you like your sketches to go? if i knew this then i could help more, more realistc? More twisted? more like foster?

That last sketch is sick good man... I love the shadows and the legs.. When I looked at it I imagined how that thing would walk, reminded me of a Tool (music group) clip as well

StephenC: While Giger is an inspiration to me, I like to think that I strayed away from any suggestive themes that are comon in his artworks. The alien had a lot of human elements like an exposed human ribcage and a human skull built into the alien's face. The alien itself was humanoid in form. Now the alien was one of my favorate creature designs ever, but it was hardly alien. I tried to stay away from shapes like that.

I guess what I'm going for is a kind of an autonomous and artificial look. I have other variations of this creature, too. A flying scout/ space-combat version, and ones that a hugely swollen that act as mobile carrying units. My style isn't strictly realism as I'll never be able to nail that, so I like making things look dirtier, grittier and less finely detail-oriented.

Anyway, thanks for the Feedback, I appreciate it.
