El Coro is a genius!

I tried out Coro's technique last night. I left out a few steps cuz I was tired, I had watched two sunsets and one sunrise without sleep.

Coro thank you so much for inspiring me to put a brush in my hand last night. and thank you for sharing your magic with us.

frickin ey andrew :] not to mention the COLORS, i love the perspective on this one, with your forehead sloping back, and how everything is placed.. makes it seem like you're coming at us, and makes the proportions believable..

Man first off, that is wicked and my favorite sp of yours ever, I gotta say it is inspiring to see how you masters are constantly pushing yourselves and learning new things. HAHA El Coro should do a SP in Painter now! How long did the whole piece take to complete? what steps did you leave out?

Wow you guys are too kind, i was kind of embarased to pot this one, I could have taken it so much further with coros technique, but I hesitated. next time I will devote more time and concentration to it.

keyth- thanks, I sugest you give this techniQ a try , take a short break from the wacom for a day, it makes me look at the way i use painter 7 from a different perspectie

Jon- Foster - What a pleasure it is to see you on the message boards. i have had your site bookmarked for over a year now. not one of your pieces has ever disipointed me. your work truly gives credibility and substance to the artform. thank you for your kind words they weigh heavily with me. working with the same subject matter every day has given me the oppourtunity to really explore and trace my artistic growth. its something that any artist at any level would benefit from.

Jason - thanks Mr. Manley

Nova, that was a happy accident. I didnt use any refrence for this one. I had been up for two days drawing, my muse had set a very heavy pace and I had to follow it for as long as my body could chase it. I had very little physical energy left in me, this portrait expresses the imaginaitive energy that creates art and dreams, it never sleeps, in fact the more tired you become and the closer you aproach sleep the stronger it becomes and releases its masterpices within your dreams.

thenetblox the red strokes were the first colors i put down and they set the tone for the mood. i marker ink and a spone to create them.

Wizard of Koz -it took roughly a half hour to forty five minutes. the main step i left out was the inking stage, i realized how important it was after I applied the first wash and lost most of the underdrawing. Coros ink linwork demonstrates so much confidence, you cant fake that and I didnt bother to try ha ha.

Davi - I thank you and my all devouring ego thanks you- you should bust out this method for one of your starue drawings. you wont regret it I promise.

Parasite7 thankx, Right now I am the concept artist for a game called Metroid* Prime* its a first person action adventure extravaganza that hits shelves november 18th just in time for the holiday season, Hurry and reserve your copy today and be one the first to show your friends the next instalment in the metroid* universe, avaliable only on the Nintendo gamecube. * end shameless plug*
(Cough*game-*cough)

before that I worked for Black isle studios with Jason Manley and www.puddnhead.com on the icewind dale universe.

Bonedog- glad you like it

thanks everyone for your encouragment, your words mean alot to me, and they all shape the direction I take with my this journey.

for anyone who hasent seen it yet this the the wisom that Justin has graced us with, http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=566

Master, I’m confused and ashamed! That thing with the sleep didn’t work for me (also up for many, many hours) - I've felt down without inspiration - just the black smoke of tormented sleep.
It will NEVER happen again!

Sparth - Haha thanks Man, my brains not dead yet, but I have been destroying brain cells at an alarmingly fast rate, hell only the week ones die first.

Oblio, it only works if you recogonize it, this was probably the most important thing I learned from my Mentor/master Iain Mc caig. but it only became apparent to me once he explained it to me. the four hours before I sleep always have the most potential for
greatness.
experiment with trying to draw as you fall asleep, if you can wait till your really really tired and then draw, close your eyes every so often and drift in and out of consiousness, but dont stip mavonf your pencil, let your instincts take over, Iain has been known for creating beautifull drawings as he slept, no joke! one of the greatest feelings is looking in your sketch book the following morning and discovering drawings you dont even rember making.

awwwwww shucks. that is very nice android. now i gotta post some painter stuff..nice to see you with a brush in your hand. computer monitors suck the life out of a person after a while, and its nice to go back to the roots for a change of pace. im glad you tried this...you succeded brilliantly-c36

great one, andrew!
colors, pose, mood... everything's fitting together perfectly.

i don't know why but i instantly remembered the days when i played super metroid on my snes.
i don't know why, though... maybe it's the colors, the facial expression or a combination...
this definitely is one of our strongest spods.

awesome man.

i'd have to say your work has something extra when you're not using a wacom. maybe your next few pieces could be done by other means than painter?
