View Full Version : DSG 1086: Sci-Fi Character: REPAIR-WIZARD FOR THE SUPER-MEGA AIR CONDITIONERS
William b. Hand

[ A character who isn't necessarily a loner, but certainly has few vocational peers... ]
[ This is someone who designs their own tools and knows exactly what's what. ]
[ I imagine that they are probably hanging beneath a giant vent from a tether, or climbing sheer duct walls using suction devices, or maybe standing on the gently sloping surface of a fan blade...]
[ ... something like that. ]
[ The character doesn't have to be in an environment, incidentally. ]
[ It's Sci-Fi, so the character need not necessarily be human. Take what liberties you need, try to be thoughtful and creative, and have some fun. ]

Heh, this topic is great, it should be the Charecter of the week.
I keep imagining that old man stuck in that giant oil-tanker in waterworld (the movie).

SCPO Dran Hankins is a climate control genius, with almost 20 years of experience handling AC systems for fighters, by the time he's down stucking his head in tight passages, it's going to be sealed tighter than a virgin's a**hole, and it's going to smell like roses.

Yeah, I really need to study references more... I'm just trying to make myself finish, or at least start, more things.
The others laughed at him. Who did he think he was, fooling with the giants' things? What did it matter, anyway? They had always worked, and always would work. He let them laugh. He knew the giants who built their home weren't coming back, just as he knew it would be disastrous, even fatal, to let their long-neglected machinery break down, for he had seen the World beyond the Walls, a World unfit for plant or beast left behind by the giants many generations ago...
Brush pen on paper, under an hour...

Simon I would also like to credit you for mentioning Brazil. Totally missed that snippet the first time through.
TomteOfDoom schnazzy like crazy.
goran made me finally like speckly pointilist type stuff.
Hamsta really blendy, juicy, but great freakin' snippet.
pl4y_wi7h_m3 muchos gracias :D Your dude's pretty spiff conceptually, what's driving me nuts is his foot just off the vent, I get the idea he's stepping into it but we're not getting a sense of motion, he looks like he's just posing. The foot on the vent and maybe a more hunched position like he's goin' in and a thumbs up over his shoulder could add a little more to it.
Jakkas STOP MAKING ME WANNA WORK HARDER DAMNIT!!!! j/k
Brightdreamer if NIMH had A/C units? hehe. awesome, bigger! more!
klys cool values and mark making but where's the dude?
stefdThat's a big freakin' AC. Welcome to the fold. I hope you manage to keep up the daily routine that I never manage to.
Agaawesome job. lovin' the old man in the clocktower/workshop/vent system feel. bout how long?
holy cow I never type this much...

TroyW *laughing* He is posing. *cringes*
I saw the same problem after I posted it, thinking that some shadowing between the wall vent and the bottom of his foot would've cleared up the confusion and show, in fact, that he's in his A-OK Cool-Guy-Pose. ^_^ Thank you for the help, though and I'm glad you liked the concept.
*strikes a-ok cool-guy-pose*

Sinslave_03:
Awesome concept, where does he put the rest of his tools tho? Guess he has some form of mule just behind him, handing them over at command? ;)
TroyWilkerson:
Thanks mate. I'll try to color it to give it a nice finish.

TroyWilkerson- how long what? How long he is working on that vent system or how long it took me to do this? I don't exactly remember, I had yesterday a messy day, but maybe more than 2h ( I always work slow on the DSGs - my record is 10 h XD)
My goal with this one was to draw a simple BG, only suggest the fan, or a part of it.I wanted just do a couple shapes/lines - and than I found what I wanted in your drawing and the TomteofDoom's drawing.
In your work, Troy, I like the colours you used, the loosy style, which work fine on this man. Cool that he is enjoing his work ;
TomteofDoom- I like your way of drawing, like little nude creature and the commanding gesture of this guy. Maybe it will look good with colours, but I like it that way which it is now. I think that the roughness of your work is cool.
Sinslave 03- it looks cool

in the year 2037 the violent effects of global warming forced the world's largest nations to come together for a project to dwarf all others: giant fusion "air conditioners" to cool the polar regions back to a stable temp. for the first ten or so years the project was a giant, self maintaining success, until a giant OS crash destroyed most of the self maintenance systems. Lord Bill gates denied that buggy software was responsible, but this did not prevent war between microsia and intelia. after the war all attention was back on finding a solution, as the system could only run a few more months without maintenance. no feasible solution could be found. riots, pandemonium followed. finally a brave group of individuals took it upon themselves to dedicate their lives to living in the inhospitable and frigid polar regions, learning the impossibly vast amounts of knowledge needed, and modifying the structures to make human maintenance possible. in time the details of their sacrifices were lost, as none could approach the super cold air conditioners, but rumours of superhuman "aircon repair wizards" survived.
