Hey everyone! Denny from Sweden here. :swepimp:

I'm a guy that has been drawing, more or less, since 2003. I've mostly been drawing characters the mainstream anime-way so let me hear the "eeeeewwww"-chorus? :D

I've decided to start drawing more realism so I might get better this decade. So is there someone like me who's been trying to convert from anime to something else and succeeded? What was your main issues to get past?

I think I'm going to start with still life, is it a good choice concidering I've been drawing characters most of the time?
Is it better to concentrate on one thing at a time? Learning shape first, then lighting, or work at all things at the same time?
Is it better to work, doing alot of roughs, or concentrate on more refined stuff?

Let me hear your personal opinions. :D

---------------------------------------------

I've heard alot of people recommending "Drawing with the right side of the brain". http://www.drawright.com/. I guess I should get it huh?

---------------------------------------------

My goal in life is to end up in the game industry, attending to www.playgroundsquad.com in august. I wonder if anyone from the same industry just happen to have some tips as an artist. I don't care if you're a texturer, animator or concept artist. :perv:

Sorry if you guys get way too many threads like this. :dur:

First off, im FAR from pro...this is just my opinion

Your first "dot" is perfect!! REFERENCES!! LIFEDRAWINGS!! the perfect combo man! :D ( I would say that thats a fact, and NOT my opinion only, since it seem to help ppl improve what they SEE... thats what drawing with the right side of the brain is all about btw ! )

second dot... sure, sometimes, but would that be really fun ?
its good to sit down 1 time a day and doing the very basic stuff, like
cubes, speheres and do some lighting and perspective stuff , I do :)
Not for long though!...

3rd: I use to sketch alot.. if I find something that looks like a nice
idea.. i take it the digital way :) or refineing it with pencils in larger format..
or just refineing the sketch :)

oh... how much did this helped you ?..
good luck on your work, I would also like to see something by you!

It helped alot, I did ask about personal opinions didn't I? :D

About the second dot. I did think more like;
Shape = Drawing with lines, making the basic shape of an item appear (like a key or a mug). Perspective etc. Then work the same but add lighting and so on. :perv:

I usually don't have the interest to work on a piece if I think the sketch is okay. This is really weird. Alot of people, like you, would continue on it if it turns out nice. Perhaps I should try to make myself continue to work on my better sketches digitally. Too bad I graduated and the tablet I had were my school's.... Getting a new Intuos 3 A4 in august. :D

It seems I jump around between Sundsvall, Nyköping and other places. Currently in Nyköping, then to Söråker near Sundsvall for work and then off to Falun in August to attend to PlaygroundSquad. (http://www.playgroundsquad.com)
Simply said I'll be located in Falun in a couple of month's. ;P

And yes, Nomad seems awesome. If I only could afford it........ Also Cintiq is available for 31.000kr at DustinHome (http://www.dustinhome.se). ;)

By the way, is it okay to add you to MSN? :)
