This pic was originally drawn by my girlfriend Laura. She sent it to me on AIM and I like it so much that I made it my CG "guinea pig". (so to speak) I actually quite pleased with it. I'm suprised it turned out so well. I normally suck at photoshop.
I've seen some dynamite art on here and, I hope to get as good as some of the people on this board?
Tell me what you guys think?

Only with hard work.
The colours don't seem to go with each other. More like they're all fighting for attention. The rock looks very flat. The main thing that's making it look really flat (apart from the lack of real shading) is where it meets the water. It's just straight. Like it's resting on top of the water. Since you only coloured it I won't go into that.

Reminds me of my first CGing pic!! XD It looks to me like you used dodge and burn. Most likely in photoshop or paint, yes? Ok, well, what you need to do to really make this piece kick butt is use different color values. For instance, her skin tone is a tan color, so color her tan and lock up that one layer, this is when you shade. For the darker area's, click, I'd say two circles down on your 'color selector' so it's a darker shade of tan. Then use that, not dodge and burn. It looks a million times better. For highlights, just get a lighter shade of tan. Use it for everything. The only time you should use dodge and burn is to bring out small, yet intense highlights. I find it is only really good for the eyes.
You did a good job! So don't get discouraged. Keep it up! :chug:
