12 hours, in graphite.

Back story (optional to read... but let's you know what I'm up to): recently I was introduced to Henry Wingate (check out his work at http://www.henrywingate.com) and am now taking private lessons with him. The lesson are 4-5 hours of drawing with frequent critiques from him. It's really a great opportuity and I can't wait to see how much I learn. :)

(oh, and sorry for the shoddy picture... it wouldn't fit on my scanner. Maybe I can get some detail shots for ya'll sometime, though.)

Hey silvir, really nice lay in of the values and tones. My main critique, (having done a few casts and from drawing from life) is that the values are secondary to the actual drawing, the blocking in the shapes of the eyes and nose and everything else in relation to each other. I say that because the right eye as I'm looking at it seems a bit small. Nailing down the proportion is critical to the success of the drawing, the values just sort of put the icing on the cake, so to speak. Keep drawing from them though, those casts have so much to say about form and shadows its ridiculous!

Flynt: Thank man. Means a lot coming from an artist as skilled as you. I'm working on my second one now. Same cast, different angle & lighting. Also doing it in charcoal this time (can be frustrating).

That fat kid: Thanks. You're very right about the importance of a good drawing first.

Here's a detail shot of the drawing (of what would fit on my scanner). It's a bit better, though the darkest darks are much more even than that. Oh well. :)

Next cast drawing coming in 1-2 weeks (depending on how much I work next week).

15 hours, and in charcoal this time. I had never done a "finished" drawing in charcoal, so I was pretty impressed by what it could do. Never been a fan of it before. :)

Next cast drawing won't be for a while... I'm going to Brazil for a few weeks. But when I get back, I'll start working on a David drawing. Gotta order the cast soon, too. What do ya think: 12" or 22"? Big price difference, too...
