Hey everyone,
I'm new, just registered minutes ago. I've been lurking a coupla weeks now, a very cool message board, top quality art - hope I can measure up!
I found this site through Jon Foster's website (thanks Jon!). Jon, if you see this post, I took an illustration class you taught at RISD a few years back, one of the coolest artistic experiences I've had!
Anyway, here's a recent piece I did. It's a character concept for a possible comic book project. Enjoy, and all comments/crits welcome.

Looks good. This is a crow picture, right?

platypusStar: thx. It's a mixture of ink wash drawings, oil painting and photoshop.
KingofChaos: Yes, the story takes place in the Crow mythos. The story has quite a different twist on the Crow theme, hope we can get this one to publication. We'll see.

Nice piece.
Not sure about that turquoise (sp) though. I dunno... probably just me 'cause I'm tired right now. Will come back to it tomorrow and judge better.
I do like how you did his face.

Zakarian: In answer to your question about the gun I have attached several supporting pieces below that I did separately for this character concept.

Jnorish: Alas, I haven't done any Crow covers. Mistaken identity, I'm afraid. I'm a huge fan of the Crow universe, but have never been paid to do any published Crow work. Keeping my fingers crossed that that will change soon though!
krayz: thanks for the kind words, here's an alternate version - not too long before I went with the turquoise.

Hi Jon,
good to hear from you, it has been a long time indeed!
Thanx for the compliments, it means a lot coming from you - I'm a huge fan and have followed you at Braid and in Spectrum over the years. Found you at PlanBSE, then Studio Ronin. You were even headlined in a StarWars newsletter I receive (the Dark art of Jon Foster). Really amazing work, Jon. You're the one who's kicking butt.
I haven't gotten any paying work yet, still working on that. I've been banging away at the comic industry for a while now with no luck yet. I'm not interested in sequential work, mostly cover type stuff. Not easy to get that work without a name or reputation. I'm in the process of changing gears and will probably be focusing more on the gaming community, something more suited to the work I do. The piece above is for a story a friend of mine wrote, we're going to submit it and try to get the story published.
Mostly what I'm trying to do is produce art, hone my craft, and enjoy creating - all while building up my portfolio.
Thanx for checking it out and taking time to comment, means a lot.

Being a HUGE crow fan I have to comment on this. I like how it's drawn, but it seems he could use a more despondent pose maybe. If you have the Crow graphic novel by James O'Barr', thats an inspiring place to look. (I myself have it, love it). I like how his arms are bloody too... I'm anxious to see where this project goes - you've got a Crow fan behind you!
Also, some more work on the stomach muscles.
