some great and twisted things going on there. It seems the 3rd round hasn't just inspired me to come up with something a little past the line of healthy and good tastes. I dig the development of the creature and his "storyline" throughout the sketches. great line and texture quality. I am curious what it all will come out to look like. keep it running wild, brother!!

FINALLY!
Thank you, killing.eatpoo!
If everyone would make his own thunderdome-thread things would be so easier.
It's great to see the progress of a work, we will see finished later as a contest entry.
Your latest monster looks very interesting...i cant wait to see it worked out more...
Maybe a mixture of both of your monsters???

killing, killing, killing... Do not give up. You are so close, I think its on its way to rocktown (what the hell is rocktown?)...
Try and stop focusing on details and just draw shapes and work with the figure. Get out of painter/PS and draw it out fully on paper and get what you want first. Unless you feel as comfortable in painter/PS as you do on paper. If you dont want to do that then.... I dont know. If you do stay in a program bump up your canvas size so you have more to work with then crop. It looks like you are cramming for space.
it needs another front leg, it just bothers me I feel it should be shown more. Also add some color to the tan too, give it some slight color from objects around it. Like the sun on him, you would give him some orange. YOu could do moon light and give it a blueish tint. Im not much with color outside of 3d. Im afraid of color... =( so im not much to listen to about color.
thats about it for now... i should be doing Adv illustration homework. hope i helped out a little, clever boy!

someone needs to write a program that doesnt just simply put the file neatly into the recylce bin - but degrates, ravages, molests, and dips it into a vat of burning fecies, like i do with all of my unacceptable traditional artwork.
thanks nick .. i dont know .. i am taking a break from it. i guess i could just start over and do it right.

hey, killing.motivation, i know it's time for you to start something new...and it's good...when i started with my monster i was happy and liked it, but the more i drew the more it became ordinary and i really didn't know where to take this...
...then i just started another one, and hey, i learned from my first try and even better: i turned back to the first and integrated the ideas, which didn't fit in the second one...now i have 2 monsters, which i think are okay...i will start 1-2 more monsters, and if i have the time, i will finish all of them, and each one benefits from the progress of the others... :cuddle:
...it's easier to work, because you can make something new and turn back to the old, but with fresh energy and ideas, continuing at the point where you was stuck before... :cyberguy:
Hope, you got some inspiration/motivation from this...because don't forget: WE HAVE A MISSION! :bars:
btw...i like this ribcage-thing, the arms and his breast. I would just throw away this centaur-looking back part and his legs. His head and this horns (?) don't match really to the rest...take the parts you like and which are strong...throw away the weaker parts to equal the level of all parts...
And don't forget: YOU ARE KILLING.EATPOO :rambo:  :chainsaw:

Just a quick thought, would you mind if I did some sketches on your concept? I'm thinking, you're doing it very animalistic, nature-like, organic... stag horns, ribs, centaur body, etc. I like that traditional sense in a very sci-fi/monster -minded competition. So how are you infesting that natural look to make it disturbing? You're twisting it's body in unnatural ways (the ribs). How much can one exaggerate that and retain the organic innocence? Contrasting themes like that could indeed make one helluva monster... Bambi eyes, and a neutral look, but it's body is twisted beyond sanity... and adding some subtle danger elements. I don't know, there is a lot of potential there, I think. So why stop?
I agree with Fozzy and Nick, more space, other sketches, don't try and make something finished at this stage, let it continue to flow! Maybe even look up some animal reference, or do something completely different. Go wild over this painting you got here, you can always revert, right?! Keep on! Start now!

i would love to see others' interpetation of the idea, it is an interesting one. i would be honored nstrand! - as for anyone else that wants to play with it. dont feel that i am quiting, i am over my quiting binge. i am not done entirely, in fact i feel this creature might still be developed far after the deadline of oct. 15th. this "organic armor" is bringing more ideas to light, in fact here are a few:
during a day dream sketch i had an interesting addition to my organic armor. an intergation of the beast was imagined, the idea of two cockpits or pilot cavities - where one could pilot and the other could control the weapons - or other tasks .. such as an offensive pilot and a defensive pilot that controled different systems of the organic machine.
another idea would to incorporate vegitaion and have the creature grow fruits and leaves for nutrition - gaining energy through photosynthesis instead of eating, and could breath your carbon-dioxide giving you oxygen. i was thinking the fruit might have some slight defects in which you might get blood specks in a monster apple or whatever. we do live in a post-apocalyptic era.
so i am not out yet, count killing still in.

fozzybear (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=31&perpage=20&pagenumber=15) <-- here is the big picture. (about halfway down.)
i had to take a rest from the monster concepts. my concept was going to shiiiat and i was getting more and more frusterated. i am going to start working on it shortly and i will post an update. i am going to start over and get a new pose.
i think a pro should post a concept to up the bar and put our army into a moral frenzy.

i cant get it out of my mind.
i havent been around for a few days. i was visiting old freinds and my family for break. i couldnt sleep - i tossed and turned, not having the warm buzz of a digital mouse in my palm nor the warm, soothing glow of a monitor. i would try to sleep, but the psycotic images of monsters would flash in my head leaving me with such realism it put all of my sense on edge - was too much to sleep through. i scratched away at my sketchbooks throughout the nights, pinching at the mental scars for preparation for this battle - the scars the preparation has given me, the fear .. the overwhelming fear of knowing the exact day you will be destroyed, no matter how much effort. all i can do is subdue them in hopes other may survive behind me.
in a painic sweat i continue to wretch through the parts and fuse steel to the bones of the damned animals and mutations i have mettled with. it for a greater good, it is justified! this blood dampening the drier, is for a worthy cause. brave jason manely told me so, he is my leader my savoir! in my meddling i will create a machine of metal and organs, tooth and bone - thats purpose, is simply

*shiver* yeah .. tell me about it.

its all the same, constructive or not.
the pilot smokes a cigarette standing on an incline. blood trickles down a cliff-face. i would like billowing smoke and fires in the background.

it would be cool to have his arms huge chain-cutters that can hitch and un-hitch for cutting and bashing pleasure.
(those guns could cause quiet a design conflict.)

Hey killing!
This last sketch...this small boring human head bothers me really! How about throwing it away....look at it now! No small head of a paperboy :)...no this "thing" doesn't need eyes and it looks better or make the upper nipples his eyes...
Would be more freakin'...

How about no head at all? Maybe a little stump, but no face? What if the creature was only locating things by radar?
killing.people
September 27th, 2002, 04:28 PM
daarken: thanks x2
thats what i like to see! ;) ideas being thrown around. *dodges left* *shimmies right* i hate the head now! awesome! radar .. that would be cool! how about a remote control armor? operated through at a safe distance through cameras. need every good angle for the universal broadcast anyhow , lol@paperboy .. *rubs his chin* tried to make him a little more manely ..
uhhhhg! i dont like the flood lights all that much - scratched.
it doesnt look like there is enough. i might sketch some different stuff to scan-in and paste over areas.
i want to draw in some arms for the first. i named the armours! and for your entertainment, here are the project's names:
the first - armour calvis (i love the final leg design i chose. they were inspired by a deer and a frogs hing legs. then the front pair are a smaller more controlled/athletic looking pair turned inward to imply a massive upward spring, much like a frog or a deer - but better than god's version.) teehee
the second - armour mad hatter inspired by a tank and an elaphant. alot about this design is bothering me, but we will see what happens.

Hey Kill' ,
at your request: your pencil work is really nice. If you want to push it a bit further, when you shade, try to shade in a manner to give it mass. by making your pencil strokes coincide with the countour of the shape youre shading. I hope this makes sense. it is so much easier to show than explain. Then work your line weight on the edges. rather than just a thick line, variate the thickness to show stress or shadow. I'll try to post some of these examples on my monster rock thread.
your t-dome thread was a great idea,.thanks for showing us all of your progress. can't wait to see your final piece.

What up Kill,
This stuff is looking nice. I know that I like the top one alot better than the bottom. but I like the big horns sticking up in the second one. I would lose the gatling guns and think of a weapon that more fits the style of your character. I like where the leg Idea for your top char is going. you should post a couple more renditions of that. you might drop in some quick shading to give us and yourself a better idea of form. Looking great, keep em comin:chug:
killing.people
October 7th, 2002, 11:24 AM
thanks for the input, `mcotie thanks for the tips .. i guess actually rendering would help, huh? :) i will give it a try - i am going to do another sketch of it possibly, keeping in mind to communicate the form of its legs, the tension and weight implied with darker shading .. i'll give it ago.
i also re-read a post nordt posted and i think i am going to take a stab at his encouraging advice in creating a fade from beauty twisted into a dark, metalic terror of sorts.
thanks again for the words of encouragement.

hey killing'
this is looking really cool. when you start coloring try a hildebrandt style lighting treatment. you know with the upper part bathed in light and the lower under shadow. it might make him appear even taller. if your'e not familiar with hildebrandt stuff, here's a linkhildebrandt (http://www.brothershildebrandt.com/), you'll see what i'm talking about. looking good.
