I remember seeing somthing like this in MAD magazine once...

Great picture Flanagany very nice anatomy on those birds, one question; what are those 2 gray things coming out of his hear.. I think It's the birds legs, but I'm not sure. Also, maybe it would be a good idea to tone down the colors on the lighthouse a bit. It's kind of drawing the eyes away from the main focus

Novacaine, your picture has a lot of enrgy, I like the rough sketchy look. Perhaps you could add one or two birds even furter away, to create a greater seanse of deapth

I couldn't figure out how to show it all in one image (wimp)
http://kitsu.petesdomain.com/images/SKETCHBOOK/DSG1084.jpg
It is supposed to be a sequence where a person is carried over the edge of a cliff by a low flying flock of birds...
It's nice to see (almost) everyone thinks of the exact same thing

@ Aga: it looks more like she is floating and the bird are just sitting on her. It doesn't look like they are 'pulling' her (at least not all of them).

@ Kibu: cool one, nice lightning!

@ Lingmerth: I like the 1st and 4th one the most. They have the best expresions.

And the rest, looks good! Maybe I'll give this one a try too, one of these days :)

kibu - Thanks, like yours aswell, Nice lighting and I like the gras texture, feel really fantasy like :)

Aga - Yupp, well kinda.. I bought a couple of new fine-liners I wanted to test them out. As you maybe can tell I'm not al that used to them yet. I found I had a bit of time to spare at work, so I did them there. But I won't really be "free" untill after monday, after that I'll hopefully be able to join in every day :D
As for your picture; Nice concept, really like the hands, well done :). However it looks a bit unbalanced. A lot of strong and bright colors at top, while the lower half is considerably darker.

Wishes - Thank you. Yhea, I really like the first frame aswell, but my absolute favorite is the guards expression in the 5th. I just love it :teeth:

corbeledg - Nice use of silhouettes, the colors work great aswell. It has a good sense of motion to it.

Ethelbert - If you painted that picture it's amazing. Can't really tell if it's a photo manip or not. Hope you take that as it was intended, as a compliment.

Suddenly lifted by a flock of blackbirds, Johan was in shock by what had happened. By the time he realised what had happened, he was too high, and had no choice but to place his fate on the wings of the birds.

Flanagany: Props on being first! Can't wait to see the final product if you continue :) pardon for asking, but what medium did you use?

Novacain: I dig where you're going with that. you can really feel the awe in the owl's wings

faith4: that's awesome :) and of course cute

Ethel: I had to do a doubletake to make sure that wasn't a photo. good stuff. The stark background made me realize it wasn't real, but if you put clouds back there, watch out!

kitsu. w00t @ the imagination :)

lingmerth: the concept was great! at first I thought it was just that one first sketch and i was like, "man, that's depressing" haha, good work!

kibu: wow I LOVE those waves. I wish I could do that

aga: you make me think I'm dreaming

corbel: you're awesome ;)

Lingmerth: They were supposed to be bird's feet, I'll try to make them read better. I think you're right about the lighthouse, I'll desaturate it somewhat.

Corbeledg: Mine was done in photoshop with a tablet, starting with a rough black outline sketch, then filled in with solid base colors in an underlayer with details, touchup and additional coloring in an overlayer. I used the eyedropper tool and a 50% opacity brush to do most of my blending.

klys: Nice looking hands. The left leg looks really long and stretched though.

Was a fun one, and hope to see a few more on it before its closed. I haven't been around here alot, but i've got a couple weeks while I transition to my next place of employment and I figured I'd take advantage of this very nice community and drawing resource in the meantime!

A few comments on a few of these:

Flanagany: I like, it has a real nice flow to it. And like Lingmerth said, great anatomy on the birds. For a quick painting, I think they are very convincing from no matter which angle you drew them. That was the first thing I noticed. I don't have a problem with the lighthouse.. I think its a nice balance to all the action and weight the birds and figure have in the composition. As far as the guy.. I feel for him. I'd guess he ran.. he ran so far away, but he couldn't get away.

Novacaine: To me, it has the strongest 'fantasy' feel to it from all the entries so far. Something you could easily imagine in LotR's, even though he has an oriental design to him. Very cinematic.

Lingmerth: I like it :) I think it conveys the sequence very well and its enjoyable to look at. While we all probably had a good idea what was going to be the end result because of the topic, even still I was very interested to see what happened in each next frame.

Kibu: While its pretty sketchy and I don't have an idea what those two pillar-like objects are, there is something about it that makes it feel that the environment is believable, even at a glance.

Hamsta: I don't know what it is, but there is something about the pic that creeps me out. It kinda has an omen-ish feel to it. Kinda like the birds are up to no good and are converging on something and tearing it apart. :P

Corbeledg: thanks for the kind words :)

corbeledg - Yhea, I that would have been depressing. Thanks.
faith4gotn - Thanks for your comment. Your picture is both clever and funny. Well exicuted too with nice movement. You can almost see the penguins move, like a river of tuxedos
Kitsu - Thanks :)

kibu i really like your style to this, can i ask your method to this picture? if by chance you did this with Open Canvas, do you have the WPE?
Lingmerth i like your story mode to your picture. brillaint way to convey the subject.
Ethelbert that looks very real, did you draw that human or is this a photomanipulation pic?
Novacaine very pirates of the carribeanish i like this idea.
Flanagany this is funny, it would be also funny if his fishing pole was somewhere in the pic. good job.
Flanagany: Props on being first!
:( i guess i didnt get noticed to be first. great job all! cant wait for next topic.

Thank you Dakobah, Unfortunately, I used Photoshop for this one =(.

=> I'm not used to explain my way of painting furthemore, I'm french, so my english is a bit...

I can try to explain the sun waves,it's kind of simple in this case: I only use a soft brush (actually I think it's the 2nd or the 3rd one in the default brushes of Photoshop, I really like this one^^) and drew some straight lines from the sun to the borders of the painting, decreasing the pressure ( graphic tablet). and then, with the same brush , I tried to create a gradient (from green to white) to make the sky (which I made all in a single green at the beginning).
I hope it will help, I'm sorry if it's not easy to understand, I'm not used to do that, but if you want more infos, you can get my msn mail.

Lingmerth- It's cool that you managed with drawing all of this scenes. I'm afraid that if I started to draw this story I would stuck on second, maybe third pict. I like the way how you built the prison ,from above, on the last pict. I also agree with you that the guard from the 5 pict is cool.
I noticed one imposible thing ;P - the saw(from the 4 pict) can't lay that way without falling. I was thinking if a pernament grey marker would be helpful in such drawing. Maybe to draw some parts of BG, maybe to give depth or something else. btw nice that you will have time soon.

faith4goth- nice idea and the composition

corbeledg- I'm not sure if he reach out his hand for help or if he is happy that he frighten away the bird which attacked him, but no matter the right answer is I like this little, black figure.

Tabasko- nice gesture, nice way you draw both the character and these quickly done bats. I like also his clothes, especially shirt with this lines of light on it.

I was so lost on this one, I don't even know what the crap a bird looks like when it's standing around much less flying. Bleh.

Tabasko - Greatness :) What a perfect face. Great job on creating focus points.

pl4y_wi7h_m3 - Just Google it (http://images.google.se/images?q=birds+flying&hl=sv). I like the folds

dakobah20 - Thanks :). Just keep drawing what ever happens and you WILL get better with time.

Aga - I got to admit, I was kinda boored (and stressed) when I did the last frame, maybe you can tell (the guard tower looks like it's made of foam rubber). And I wasn't really used to working so big (the last one is a full A4, the other ones about half that). When and if I would color it, it would be rather easy to do in PS, just a layer on top with the right layer mode, or something. But a marker would have worked really well, problem was, al my markers where at home :P. Hehe, he probably glued the saw to the window ;). Also, my freedom has been postponed till thursday. :(

tabasco, I like the concept of "birds"-as-minions. hehe good stuff, and I like the control you have on your work (although I'm impressed with everyone who has better control than me, which is like..everyone haha)

Play-with-m3's, the extreme angles you have going on (like a bird pulling at a piece of clothing) is what I like about that piece...really shows stress and struggle and action

ivy'sgrandkid, I've seen some of your other work, and I wish you developed this picture more to see all of your awe-inspiring colors coming through!

Lingmerth~ Thank you. I've been trying to pay more attention to how clothes hang and fold off of the body so that was a huge compliment. I guess I should be using Google anyway since I'm reading so much about how using a refrence is important.

corbeledg~ Thank you kindly. I was also trying to come up with a better facial expression but I just gave up. Got a little frustrated. Bleh.
