New stuff is at the bottom, the first post is six months old ( gasp) :) . The last posts are updated regularly though.

Hello again :)

My previous sketchbook is more then one year old and can be found
here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21962).

Sadly, the job has gotten the best of me in this past year (textures, shaders and particle FX) and I kind of start drawing less, and that less was formed only by commissions which pushed me into a style I didn't quite enjoy doing, plus illustrating designs that were not my own and didn't believe in didn't help, and that has caused me to drift away a bit from drawing rather then bettering myself...I'm back though, hoping to get back on the horse :).

Some of the commissions from the past year.

Cartoony-comic book like characters.

And some more characters in that style that I didn;t quite enjoy...

I am noticing several anatomical ouches on this one now ( that I didn't notice at the time I made them). Not to mention the "cartoonish" lighting that doesn't quite warm my heart :)

Recent one.

Sketches , mostly from today, very little to no reference, to see what I am remembering ( except the samurai, that is older). :)

Starting to get into the jive

Still no reference, seeing how well I remember doing values...

I still prefer stuff from a year ago over current stuff, but I feel that the hand is picking up speed :)

Cheers, and please be ruthless :P

Wow, Awesome stuff Oddo! Just fantastic. I only saw two things I'd change. First, the tree in the foreground in the first one is just a little too green, and looks odd. Secondly, It's a little hard to see the blade in the samurai painting, and it looks a little like water (Might be intended).
Keep them coming man, This has the makings of a fantastic sketch thread.

pix-uk: thank, will do :)

Cup Of Joe : Thank you for the feedback, about the blade, aye that's a bugger with commisioned work... if it was for me I would have left out the aura altogeter :D .

Hello again folks :)

Must appologise for letting six months pass without updating anything online, not even my CA sketchbook. Doing tech stuff for next gen projects cuts on drawing time quite a bit.. :(.

Here's some wacom sketches ( DSG mostly) and some finished work. Hope to have a lot more in the near future :).

Trying for the first time the ppload pictures on the forum thing :D.

Great stuff here! Really solid characters and painting technique. I especially love the Moose-Riders... I'm originally from Alaska and love those big brutes. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread for progress.

LOOOVE it......... Those last two are superb, not to mention the stuff on your old sketchbook..... WHOO...... probably my favorite part of these is the use of color, you've got an eye for it:) I feel your pain on the cartoony commissions~* I'm really trying to think of something to crit.... your anatomy is well done in most and they are usually pretty dynamic, but there are several that don't quite hit the same mark. I'm gonna have to see more to know:) Soooo for my second crit, POST MORE because this stuff is phenomenal~*

Great stuff, Oddo! Question for you: I just started keeping a sketchbook myself (not the online one, check that if you like), a normal pencil and paper one. I find it hard to capture people and/or create characters of any interest. What process do you go through to create a simple character sketch, conceptually? Do you draw from real people, ie. on the subway, in the park, etc?

anticonnor :
Thanks for the encouragement, I'll do my best not to disapoint any future visits
....on 10'th of November : Job project finishes: two weeks of uninterupted artwork.. big updates then hopefully :).

sartell:
thank you, proper anatomy, fine detail and cool linework are something I utterly lack right now :/ Thank you for the kind worrds and your visit.

sandworm: Hello :)
Drawing from real people is definitelly something I should do more to improve the realism on my characters, sadly I hardly have time for it nowdays, but it IS definitelly the way to go :).

I do keep a set of proportion rules in my head along with breaking up the human form into cylynders and spheres mentally . That is the cane that aids my crooked hand when I am seting up my characters.

Cool stuff, Oddo! I like your motorbike speedpaint - great movement, and your dwarf- hot air balloon-vehicle sketch is ace. Plus extra points for good use of moose!

Omg, excelent renderings.

That halberd(?) even looks like a 3D model. :P

That red gold-trimmed armor and the red dress beside it reminded me of Planescape and old fantasy paintings. :^^:

Cheers.

The free time arrived a bit later then expected, but here I am , with some updates :).

A couple of CHOW entries ( Sewer meremaid king and Fairy Hitman) and a couple of roughs for future paintings... :D.

Dominus: Thank you. The reason I don't visit and post on VA so often is that my schedule does not allow me to patrol two forums, and CA is a better learning source, though I admit, I do miss chatting with you guys :). But you're here and so is Icey and so is Dariz and so is Oblio and so is Dan and DDD(Dan Donciu) and I think even Eric has an account ( and so Does Florin but he's usually just lurking :) ) so almost all of the "big guns" are here aswell :).

Mya: Thank you :)

Fooxoo Thank you, will do :)

Sady: Thank you :)

But what is with all this niceness, I want tearing stuff to bits, BLOOD :D.

Oddo Thank you for visiting my sketchbook and for your comments.
Your character designs are great to look at. Like your color choices alot. If I were to offer a critique, it's perhaps in the value scale you use. I feel that widening the difference between the values would help. Punching out the darks and accents, I think, would add more impact to your, already well thought out, images.

Had to dig for your book after seeing your COW entry... That samurai is top notch, I wish I could see it larger.
