I'm looking for an illustrator for my third book. It, like my first two, is a self-published music instruction book, and will be between 65-85ish pages.
I'm a one-man biz (with the exception of illustrator): author, layouter, graphics manipulator when necessary, publisher, distributor, shipping, receiving, etc. The illustrations for my first two books were done by childhood friend Peter Reynolds, who is now successful and busy enough that I'm looking around for someone to do this third book.
Check out some of his pix, scattered around my site, http://www.edly.com. I would be most interested in something in that same vein: line art (with optional shading)--to be grayscale in book; fun, inviting, informal, organic (hand drawn, and as far away from Illustrator, FreeHand, or Photoshop as possible), and quick. This kind of pix matches my books' writing style.
Payment: Honestly, this'll be the first time I've ever actually paid for illustrations (the advantage of a thirty year friendship with an illustrator!), so I have no idea what illustrations might cost. Sorry, just being honest! I do think that payment would be up front, or as pix are done, unless this is not the way things "are done."
Terms: I'm open, and would like to discuss it with the illustrator I end up with. I would think you could keep rights to reuse, as long as I'd be able reuse in promo brochures and on my site. More specifically than that, we could discuss.
Timeline: I'm not much of a timeline type of guy, but I'd like to publish as early as August, and as late as... well, as long as it takes.
If you're at all interested, please email me back. (If you don't then hear back from me within a week, it means that I didn't receive your email.) We can then go from there, including my emailing you a short list of ideas for you to try your hand at, so I can see what you'd do.
Thanks for your consideration!
