Alright dudes and Dudettes, here is my sketchbook for here. I there is much to learn and improve, and compared to many of the people I've seen I need to drastically work on my stuff. well, let the sketches begin.

Alrighty, so here is the first five sketches for you... they aren't really in any tpe of order on when they were done.. so just accept them as done within the last year.
Pic #1 - So in this one you have the Elephant man, I can't really say why or what inspired me to make him, other then just doodling and it happened. The Skinny alien thingy...yeah, nothin really to say about him. Alright so I drew a duck, gimme a break, I can't always draw non existant beings. A girl... I think her hair was an eye at first and her face the pupil, but I changed in mid doodle and made her. The expressions and faces just came to be because I did them. The Golom/Colossus/giant thingy was inspired by drawing by this friend of mine that drew a colossus drawing a little while ago.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/PunkboyLeech/06_05_17-elephantmanandfaces.jpg
Pic #2 - Here is a girl I was quite proud of, the Hindi Female... well, she was made bacause I was listening to a bollywood soundtrack and this hit me and I wanted to draw her. the guy head above the skull native thing is beyond me really... I think I was just testing out this way of making heads that this girl showed in her tutorial on Deviantart. the head beside the girls feet is like a self portrait done in a kind of geometric mayan style or something. the guy there was never finished as you can see, but I did like the stance and so later on probably I'll do something with it. the top is a head with eyes...yeah. then theres the rat, I like'im. an a funny abstract thngy, I've been decorating things that way recently, it's pretty fun. an now for the bird, he is a relative to my Blue Bird character I guess, mainly thins is the kind of style I go for when drawing anthropomorphasized birds. The Sand golom in the Bottom left I really like, he was drawn during a art history lecture on columns and all that stuff, thus the reason for my drawing. a crocadile. and another bird, and my initials.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/PunkboyLeech/06_04_20-sandgolomandprettywoman.jpg
Pic #3 - so I did a stance real quick lightly... and then turned it into a bear, he's cool. then next to him you see the one-eyed ruins golom, inspired probably by the Zelda golom thing in "Ipsens Castle" in Majora's Mask. Me the Heartless, this was inspired by my friend that did the colossus that inspired my colossus, for he had drawn himself like he thought he'd look like as a heartless. don't know what the head is above the heartless shoulder... looks like it's insane though. alright, so a drop with four legs isn't the next big thing, but hey, can't say I didn't ry. alright so this guy has a few eyes and tentacles and spikes, but hey, he can be lovable too. the girl was a very light sketch at first and because I liked the position she was in and the angle I was really hesitant at coming back and putting detail in, but alas I like it more now.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/PunkboyLeech/06_05_17-meheartless.jpg
Pic #4 - More Heartless, ones a, inkjar heartless, ones a, inkdrop heartless, and ones a pencil heartless. then there's the girl head just sitting there... and a more cartoony one just a little further along, and then there's the stance that I liked too mush to add detail to. in the top right you see an orc sketch... and another monster demon thing. and on the bottom you have the smiling face... he's happy.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/PunkboyLeech/06_05_17-inkjarheartless.jpg
Pic #5 - This I titled as either "the Painter Heartless" or "the French Heartless"... yeah, all the badass painters from the past tended to be in fance one time or another, so I thought that was the best look to go for. below him was the start of a spray paint heartless, but alas I gave up on it. all the rest are Just Silhouettes I'll mess with later.

So we had to do a Final for Digital paint and we were allowed to do whatever we wanted, here is what I did... the left of the doubles are the progress, and the right side is the one before the final look, so that'll let you see the difference between the start and finish.

looks cool, if you have some extra time i was thinking it would look pretty cool if you really darkened the giant in the background so the lighting in the front is more dramatic. still looks though keep postin

Alright.... writing explanations before posting is slowing me down, so I'll just throw a bunch of images on and then come back and edit the post and explain... if I happen to remember or if it irritates me too much.

obviously you like drawing from your imagination, there is nothing wrong with that I love it too, and sometimes we get so infatuated with it we put off studys.... we need studies to improve, practice anatomy, and life drawing, at least an hour a day will really show improvements! keep up drawing man, you have the patience, now u need to start getting in a routine... just like me :P

Yes I agree... I do need to start doing some "work sketches" rather the "free Sketches"... but that will come as it does, here are some more sketches that I have done over the last month or so.

alright, so those of you that are coming here via my link from the other forum, be ready to see a bunch of stuff you have already seen before.
To those that didn't come via that link, welcome, glad to have you here, sit back and enjoy, and then let some harsh Critiqing be unleashed on this thread, without the pointers of other I would not be where I am today with my art style.
The characters in this post were done for the site Mojizu.com (http://www.mojizu.com/artist/PunkBoyLeech.aspx), this site is a character forum in which artist are able to post up there characters ith background information and other artist and non artists vote on a 1-10 voting system on how much they like the artwork and biography. the first four I have posted on the site, and each have there own Bio.. for I like writing and I also like drawing, these mojis allowed me to do both. the elephant trunked dude is not fully finished by the way, I still have quite a bit of color editing to do on him.

I am not actually as conceited as to like drawing myself a lot, but alas some of the better piece I have done (or at least face pieces) were self portraits, which goes to prove that you know your own looks better then anyone elses, thus self portraits will turn out better most of the time. Many of our hw assignments contained either doing a self portrait or getting someone else to stand in, and I never felt right asking someone to stand still for and hour or so, so I always just sketched myself.

Thanks Yall, glad yall browsed in here... so here we have the next batch of sketches.
For my Production team we had to have some people characters, and since I was one of the concept artist for my team I had to give them a bunch of kids to choose from... made me realiz how much I need to work on my human characters and slow down on my creature designs.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/PunkboyLeech/004---Kid1.jpg
Another batch of kids, I was hoping they would tell me what they liked and disliked about them, but alas people were busy and it came down to not talking about them, just voting on them

and some more from production team class... we were gonna have a waiter in it, but they decided the next class that they did not want a waiter in our project, so it was scrapped, but the waiter's character physic and look was used for the older version of the child.
The middle bald head is the concept they decided would make a good teacher character.

I really enjoyed looking through this sketchbook, you've set it up well. Great cartoons. Even better environment thumbnails. Some lovely life drawing studies. Your Mojizu's are painted really well with a streak of realism that helps bring them to life. I like the vareity of work you've presented. I like the dress studies as well - it is something I really should get doing myself because you will exceed in your character (outfit) design as a result. Carry on with your facial/expression studies. It would be ace to see some cleaner, sharper lines in these drawings, but I understand that quick sketches are the best way to improve quickly.

Keeping up the nice sketching I see...
Well not much to say but that you need to point out that the characters that you are doing for your project seem to have really similar look to them and sometimes look like the same person...maybe thats the case but, thats all I can point out...^_^
Keep it up.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. and yeah, when I find something I really like I'll go back in photoshop and create a nice line art version... or a painted version who knows.
Anyways, more concepts for production team... I think I've said this before, but this project made me realize how much I need to work on my human characters... since I need to get a wider variety then what I got.

And the last of what I got for that class, course I was just trying to get ideas for what we could have in the restaurant, but alas, all I came up with was stuff from pictures... wasn't really into this stuff anyways, so I moved back to characters. This suit guy is actually supposed to be the kids father and also the drones around the world (cept the drones won't have the moustache). and then comes the drone female concepts... yeah... here in a couple posts you will see how I am fairing on my studies.

Alright, so after those concepts I decided I really needed to start working on the basics so that I can get better concepts. I have drawn out of my head for years now, not really studying anything, so I gotta get into the hang of it. here is a bunch of heads that I did to get my head proportions right, I thought I had them good before, but this Ron Lemen Tutorial (http://www.anticz.com/heads.htm) looked useful, so I decided to try it.

And what is a head study without eyes… I had been looking for a tutorial on eyes like the one I did in the last post, but I couldn’t find any, so first I did a bunch of eyes from what I knew about them (photo reference was use some to make sure folds and stuff were correct).

and since studies get kinda boring sometimes, I find I just need to take a page and do stuff that I normally do... and then continur with my studies... here you can see after the Free sketches, the eyes were done from looking at photographs rather then just from my head... but then the last one I went back and tried to do more from my head

So again, the studies bored me so I had to do some more of my own type of characters, things I am used to drawing... after which I moved on to the nose to get better at that... but alas... I had to just go with a triangle for the basic shape since I could not find any good tutroials online to help me with that.

Alright... since there is an uber amount of pages per thread, I believe I shall now start posting about 2 images max per post, so it doesn't take foreved to load the new images.
So here is the last of my nose studies, all from my head as I can remember, this was just some more experimentation with different looks.
PunkBoyLeech
February 10th, 2007, 11:14 PM
And from there I moved on to Lips… something that actually has given me trouble in the past, I really would have liked a technique for this, but since searching for good eye tutorials frustrated me last week, I just winged it and used photo reference and what I got from “How to draw the Marcel way”.
PunkBoyLeech

Only one study of ears… yes, that’s right… by now I was starting to really hate not having a technique to study and use… so I plan to come back later and work on lips, noses, and ears... when I find a good demonstration on getting a nose.

February 10th, 2007, 11:24 PM
Alright… now turn away from your monitor, these next couple posts are not gonna be pretty… your eyes may refuse to work after seeing these sketches… yeah, you have been warned. Alright… so yeah, as you can see, I was not liking what I was getting for heads… guess I really need to start getting used to shading with a pencil… but hell, normally if I am gonna give something volume, I normally will just use photoshop and make it look cool… sigh
PunkBoyLeech
February 10th, 2007, 11:26 PM
Another head batch…I think I am either gonna do head sketches about ten times smaller then what I got, or just make them so messy, the suckiness is hard to see… actually… there are a couple that I found I didn’t really stink on…
PunkBoyLeech
February 10th, 2007, 11:29 PM
And the last of the heads that I did… in truth, I should have done more… but I think after those last two pages… I was starting to believe that my art skills had been lost…forever… well, actually it just made me wanna stop sketching for a while in hopes that by not drawing I will build up some rested XP so when I start up again I will do some badass stuff…
PunkBoyLeech
February 10th, 2007, 11:36 PM
So I had to buy a new sketchbook, since I didn’t want anymore stuff near those heads I just posted, incase the suckiness was contagious ;D . Actually, I had to buy a new one since the other one was filled up. So this sketchbook was started when I went to Chic-Fil-A with a couple of the peeps from school, I wasn’t getting’ much to eat there, and I always find I like to do something other then just sit and stare at the person across from me. As always, my characters just kinda happen, nothing really is the base, other then the basic shape… well, and whatever it is kinda related to… like mammal, aquatic, insect, etc.
PunkBoyLeech
February 10th, 2007, 11:42 PM
This page is more of just a stab at being abstract with my designs… but alas, that is not my way… if I am gonna do silhouettes then I do them in photoshop, due to the fact that you can place a basic shape down, and easily erase what you don’t want and add what you do want. This did lead me to the next page...

… here …. Is not what I was talking about… actually, it’s the page after this… this I was just gonna do a tall dude, but since I haven’t much of a costume library built in my head, he got a simple shirt and pants…which is pretty sad… I really need to do some costume studies too…man…there is so much to work on with so little time…grrr.

Here we go, this is what I was saying it lead me to, the little basic shape guys. The basic shape peoples were just kind of a way of seeing what all I have in my head for basic shapes… I need to start working on more of a variety… again, even more stuff to work on.

hey, thanks for stopping by my sb! That was seriously the nicest comment I've had yet. :) Your sketches have a lot of energy, and it's great to see you doing so many studies (eyes, ears, noses, etc) This will benefit you! Keep it up! :tihi:

Alright, a real quick update on my sketchbook. So I went ahead and did a basic shape drawing of a short guy that I will flesh out more in photoshop… maybe… and then I did a harpy character as a basic shape… all my sketches like this tend to be caused by what music I listen to, because I find music creates images in the mind that can be useful to get inspiration from. So after the harpy I did the bent over dude thing… all three were really done with very little pressure, so there was barely anything down, thus allowing me to later come back and tighten up some of the lines. after those three I did a skeleton on the page… because I had heard some kind of music that made me think of a robed ominous figure, and thus this guy was created. Once I got done with that I decided to take a break and watch “Dhoom 2” with my family, I took my sketchbook down with me. I saw “Dhoom 2” last Monday so I wasn’t really needing to focus fully on the story, so the masked guy was created… and that’s how I work normally, letting characters come as they may, some have potential…others… just need some fixing up and then they have potential.

Still while watching “Dhoom 2” I decided it was time I started messing with the characters I already have and toying with how they look, seeing if I can’t improve upon them, and here is what I have so far with my Shadow Scarecrow dude.

So over the course of last break I got about ten thumbnails down for what I wanted to paint, then I just have slowly added more until I filled up the canvas. You probably can barely tell what’s going on in each one, but now that I have them down, I think I will refine them all so that when I blow them up to page size, I will have even the mid details blocked out.
When I started these thumbnails I was going with the idea of making a painting on each of the Characters I displayed on the first page, and so as you can see the first four thumbnails are of the tall demon dude.
The 5 and 6 were done with the armored elephant nosed dude in mind. After those I started just doing thumbnails of whatever idea popped into my head or whatever I scribbled down that I thought looked like something.
7 is… well… actually… it is two people, and it looks like one is getting crowned or something like that.
8 is a Inn type seen, this was so that I could work on a female character rather then a creature and all that I have done.
9 Is some futuristic place… I am unsure what exactly it will be, but I think it will be revealed as I work on it.
10 did have a little thought behind it, it is taking what artist do and displaying it, on the left side you have the old fantasy creatures and such facing off against the right side that is made up of aliens and machines… in the middle you have the artist drawing away.
11 is kinda a puzzle to me…at first it was just scribbles… but then I turned it more into a hip shape with a person in the background gawking… so we’ll see where that goes… maybe I’ll zoom out or something to make it more understandable… but first I am gonna try and plot a little detail down to see what I get.
While watching that video in class the other week, I sketched out some basic shapes and went for a 2/3 color pallet rather then leaving my brush on a low opacity. So on thumbnail 12 I am kinda unsure what it is… again with more detail I will be able to turn it into some different stuff.
13 is a worms eye view of a person standing over a grave… I think I may need to make the grave taller or something cuz it looks too short, but we’ll see.
Then on 14 again I went back to the 2 color palette and did some basic shapes…it makes me think of a bookcase so I’ll have to do something to make it more interesting…
Then I zoomed out pretty far and sketched the last two… 15 is some futuristic hunter dude hiding behind something as some creatures crawl over rubble searching for him
16 is a female character… gonna have to really think about how I wanna do it though, and try and come up with a character for her to actually be, rather then just some random female.

February 18th, 2007, 03:59 PM
And then I started a new batch of thumbnails this week, and was still in sketch mode so painting on what I wanted didn’t happen really… again I am going back and adding more detail later, I just wanna get some ideas down so I have stuff to flesh out.
17-20. These are four different versions of much the same version, they involve a little girl getting hunted by some dark creatures… I am playing with a story idea that will involve all my characters... so this is kinda made to that. the girl is taking care of a little light spirit and the Creatures are trying to destroy it… so she is hiding from them in a dark and foggy woods.
21. I do not really know… I think I am gonna scrap it because in truth it was just a scribble that has yet to give any idea to what I wanna do.
22. Is a giant thing looking down on a traveler dude… these can also be more characters that I need to design… so we’ll see… I am gonna have to play with what environment they are in… whether it is a cave, a ruined city, or a forest… or even something else.
23. Well… I don’t know, it could be something, but I don’t know what… all I know is it looks overcast and something like a building or group of buildings.
24. Here is a farmer taking a break from his normal duties… staring out into the fog that has spread over his land… behind him, out of the gloom, looms the Shadow Scarecrow… the farmers day is near and end.
all the rest are really quick scribbles of what I was thinking.
25. Quagmire attacking a swamp traveler/creature
26. Old Farmer Sweeny repairing one of his field goloms.
27. Mrs.Rosewood standing outside the city staring at a gravestone.
28. A Princess stands on the edge of a balcony and looks over her kingdom… Sadness surrounds her looks.
29. A caravan of people go through a swamp… and Quagmires slowly emerge from the Ooze behind them.
30. Again another scribble of Old Farmer Sweeny Fixing the golom’s arm.
31. two people meet in the middle of a busy street… gonna have to play with that Idea.
32. An Ominious figure stands there with all his minions behind him.
So yeah… I really am gonna have to mess with the stories and details for these thumbnails… but those last 8 were more just getting the ideas down so that I could progress further.

Alrighty, so here is an update on my thumbnails.
1. – The light was toned down some… maybe to be re added later
2. – Changed the demon from standing static behind her to more creeping up on her.
3. – Instead of that boring set up with the demon standing in the middle of a bog, he and his relations are walking toward the camera through the mist.
4. – Changed the thing from the demon to some Forest Giant.
5. – Made the composition more interesting.
6. – Moved the window over and made building she is standing on higher above the ground… I think the elephant dudes will live in high rise buildings… the town will be more of a pile rather then spread out.
7. – The …. Magic dude is accepting the other as an apprentice… or something.
8. – Same as before… not much I could do to make this better… I like the way it looks so I plan to enlarge the thumbnails and there I shall work on the detail.
9. – The Government special forces are in search for a thief that has stolen something precios to them
10. – A little more detail on the Artist and the battle in the background.
11. – Changed it to portrait style rather then landscape, and I am gonna have her a warrior/traveler… and the guy in the background will also be a warrior /traveler.
12. – Just painted the scene and made it more of a morning/day scene.
13. – Changed the tombstone so it looked better, and added lines to give reference of where body parts and such are.
14. – Not touched… yeah… I couldn’t think of what I wanted to change on this.
15. – Painted but left the contrast low because of my wanting to keep it more of a shadowy scene.
16. – Painted the face shape and such.

Awesome thumbnails man. I think that I started thumbnailing more because of you man, really makes me mad that youre better than me at that...hehe...anyways...thats why I draw lots of thumbnails these days...
Really good, any of them could be an awesome painting, but the question is which one?...at least which one is going to be the first actual painting...^_^...
PunkBoyLeech
February 26th, 2007, 03:48 PM
17-20. – Yeah, so I just painted in the creatures and such to give the actual feel of what the painting will have. Mist is a big part of these and since the Creatures are kind of a big part I shall also either be sketching out some designs for them or just seeing what I come up with as I paint.
21. – Funny how that non descriptive thumbnail leg to this… it’s a painting of two people lookg at a big city along the coast… really interesting how it came about, I thought the thumbnails before had a kinda of coast feel… but I didn’t know what I was gonna do with it or where it was gonna go from there… so I started just painting in some stuff… got the slanted part of the ship done in the bottom left and suddenly that gave everything else it’s scale… the view before was like someone on the side of a coast, but this turned it into a view from atop something looking off into the distance, and so I built me a city there.
22. – well… yeah… this is another thing compostition with a worms eye view… I really like the mood that sets for a composition… really makes whatever the thing is gigantic. Here I think we have a forest golom or something.
23. – And here well… I didn’t actually do much to change this… but once I painted the sky I decided it would be something like a farm or such… because it has that feel… like a farm just about to get hit by a very big storm.
24. – This is a more detailed version of the thumbnail than before. The shadow scarecrow comes across an unlucky farmer.
25. – I didn’t like the attacking quagmire idea so I played with having a hut in the middle of the swamp while a bunch of Quagmire Creatures roam around.
26. – since I basically had two of the same thumbnail before, I got rid of the one I though weakest and replaced it with a view I thought more interesting and dynamic… a birds eye view of Old Farmer Sweeny working on one of his field golomses arms by candle light… should make for a fun painting.
27. – Mrs.Rosewood standing by a gravestone… I am gonna say the grave stone of her late husband. I like this one because you have the grave stone close up, Mrs.Rosewood in the mid ground, and the city in the background…worked out good for me.
28. – Hmmmm this one started developing a story when I got to #31… I think the princess is either in danger or saddened by her kingdoms greed or evil ways. So she gives her kingdom one last look from her balcony (I can’t think of the proper name for it) before she sets off for aid in a friendly neighboring kingdom.
29. – Torches light the swamp as a caravan of people travel through… Quagmires rise behind them closing off the path for returning.
30. – Another version of Old Farmer Sweeny working on his golom’s arm, this time I placed the golom in the background against the wall, and instead of working in the arms he took something out and is messing with it.
31. – So as I worked on this I decided it was just to random to make the two people just random people… they needed a background a reason to notice each other…. And that’s when I linked #27 to this one… and it fit. As the princess flees her kingdom a young traveler bumps into her and so they meet… and so starts the story… kind of a generic start to a story, I know, but that is just the base, and for now it works.
32. – Running out of time I was unable to finish this one to where it was painted how I wanted, but it has the feel I want… Dark and ominous. If you look back a page you shall see my death guy sketch… well I think this one will feature him and his minions.

So I decided to go with the Shadow Scarecrow one… it’s not the strongest of the batch I think, but I am gonna go ahead and go in the order I created the characters… so the Old Dog is next… two to pick from… we’ll see which I pick.
Anyways, so I simply took the thumbnail to it’s own layer and sized it up to where it was 2.125 in big with 300 resolution… this means it is only ¼ the size it needs to be in the end… so there will be some more resizing once I get the next part blocked out.

Thanks yall.
As I am painting in the values I am starting to wonder whether it is smart to resize it a couple time... or whether it would be wiser to just make it the size the painting is gonna be and paint it from there… … it is a hard choice, due to the fact that when it is the size of a page and at 300 resolution… Photoshop get laggy… not fun when your trying to do a bunch of fast strokes… cuz you not able to see where the cursor is and the lines that are appearing at not matching where your wacom pen is… so I think with this one I will work out some detail in this ¼ size canvas, and then resize it to the way it will be in the end.. if it becomes to laggy… I may just have to lower the resolution… but that’s only if it becomes too laggy.

Alrighty, so here is the last of the detail that will be applied to this Painting for now... it takes about 1 mb right now, and when I scale it, it takes 24 mb... thats alot... I think I will increase the size to 11 in across, but lower the resolution to 150 instead of leaving it at 300.

Very nice man, really like how the values on you last WIP.
About photoshop not working or starting to get slow on you, maybe you should change go to Edit/Preferences/Plug-ins & Scratchdisks... try and add more scratch disks and add the hard drive with the highest memory as the 1st scratch disk, that may fix the problem. You can also go into Edit/Preferences/Memory ImageCache... and allow photoshop to use more ram than what it is using at the time.
Well, hope it helps. Keep it up.

So I heard from people that they liked #8 in my first batch of thumbnails, and instead of going with Farmer Sweeny next I went with this one… the Tavern scene. I Plan to have it detailed like the previous painting by tonight… so we’ll see. I lowered the contrast of the painting so that I can paint in the new detail easier and see better what has and hasn’t been painted new. I then placed some perspective lines in just for good measure, and this will help later when I paint the tables. The Waitress was kind of indistinct so I went ahead and quickly drew her stance and lowered it’s opacity so that I could paint her easier… I find if I keep swapping between the two at first, sketch and paint, I get a better effect then just going from sketching to painting… first sketch is for plotting, first paint is for the lighting and to get 3 dimensionality in it, using the 3D effect I get I draw over it with a better understanding of the drawing, and then with the new sketch I can paint the detail a little faster… and I don’t have to correct the pose as much.

Alright...this is where I stopped and realized I had not designed this girl at all... she was about to turn into some gall in pants and a shirt... and she isn't even cute now... so yeah... I am going ahead and working on some design work on her now... once that is nailed down I'll come back and continue this painting.
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 07:59 PM
Alrighty... so once I got a little into this painting I realized I had to make a decision on the design… should a keep the table long and have the artist to the side…. Or shorten the table so the artist is in the middle…. And if I shorten I will need to expand the painting just a bit so that the table is in the middle (it was also look a little weak on the machine side)
So anyways, I went with the shorter art table… I am still in the process of finishing this painting.
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 08:27 PM
Alright yeah, so, I realized again… that after painting a thumbnail, I get a better result if after I size up the thumbnail, I sketch in some of the shapes and such to get a better understanding of where is what and what is what. as you can see I am not really putting detail into the shapes I got, I am just getting some lines down to act as guides for the painted peoples… I more then likely later will come back and add even more to each side, but for now I wanna get these shapes into the painting and detailed out before I add anymore lines… so I like to work with a well balance of both… because too many lines can make you lose what is everything, and no lines and values that run together can also make for a hard to define painting… paintings by me are not fast… I know I need to work on that, but that is not for any of the thumbnails that you saw, I may work on reference ones and make them speed paintings.
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 08:28 PM
Alrighty, so with the lines I was able to block out the shapes of the creatures in black… and then also add highlights to the places that needed them to help me know where what was what on each… there of course is still much to work on in this, but I have quite a bit done… I need to design the machines a little better, because as you can tell, the organic stuff is more my cup ‘o tea, not robots and such… so I am gonna have to really work on that side.
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 08:30 PM
Now a break from the paintings to show my progress on my sketch book... so where we last left off was the Shadow Scarecrows head sketches and such, well I continued that some more tests with different head, and I started messing with his arm too… and of course if I get bored and such I do go off in other directions and start doodling other stuff… it clears my mind me thinks… otherwise I get frustrated with drawing…and don’t draw for a little.
*the one arm that looks like a ghosty... yeah... someone commented on the other arm thats next to it asking if that was a ghosty thing... and when people do that, I just gotta try turning it into what they see
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 08:31 PM
More sketches of ideas for the arm with the tentacles… well… I had the idea that it could be a cast iron stove... so I messed with that Idea for a little… Steinbach was saying how I need to actually render some of these sketches out so that people can get the 3D feel because my stuff is quite sketchy, so I played with using ink, and I like that… it’s a big step for me cause I almost never inked over the pencil version until I had copied it… but now I realize that if I mess up and need to draw it again, that’s fine… I should be able to draw it again… otherwise woe is me and may art abilities.

By this page I had already painted the Shadow Scarecrow painting so I felt no need to use anymore pages on that for the moment… with my new love for inking, I decided it was time I tried faces again, maybe…. Just maybe, they wouldn’t turn out ugly like they did before…. I was wrong… Hideous they turned out to be… the only one I like it the one I did not use the head structure for, which is the one I didn’t get around to inking… the guy with the big eyes just makes me cry with sad…. My poor self esteem is crushed by him…

Well… after those heads I just felt like doing something alien on the next page because that would obviously be prettier then the page before it. I just started with an upper torso… and since I didn’t wanna draw a human (ugh… humans are gonna kill me ) I went from the torso into more of an insect-ish figure, and then I came back today and tightened up the sketch real quick and made it into a lobster thing… I dunno why… I just did.
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 09:25 PM
Well, I was kinda in the mood to do some abstract-ish characters, so I did this page. The tope left one as far as I can tell is a crab robot thingy, the thing on the right is some kind of ancient monsters statue/golom thingy… the mid left is unknown… could be a foot to something or a space ship…. And I don’t even know why that face snuck on this page.

March 10th, 2007, 09:25 PM
Another batch of poses… well… I had left them unfinished till yesterday, and yesterday I just tried to tighten them up using my pencil… probably shoulda grabbed my inky pens and went to work, but oh well. So the top left dude… I am gonna venture out and say he is related to alladin… or he is of Indian nature… I needed better reference, but I finally gave up in my search when I couldn’t find any Indian online shops that had clothes on display. I don’t know about her,,, it seems she has either a corset or bodice on, with a cheerleading skirt (most of my women have long flowing dresses so I wanted to be different on this one.) The bottom left dude is well… a thingy…. Kinda happy with how he turned out. And the bottom right is just a small female character.
PunkBoyLeech
March 10th, 2007, 09:26 PM
More heads, yeah, I am probably gonna keep doing this until I can come up with my own way of drawing heads that look good… the top two and the bottom left were all done while watching a movie… so the lights were not only dim, but the actors didn’t sit in one spot for long… that bugged me, why they gotta move about so much? Can’t there be a plot twist or something that makes them freeze with emotion… geez. Anyways, the bottom right I drew using a reference pic… still it didn’t come out great… but hell, practice makes perfect right, so time for more practicing.

Still watching the movies, I decided to draw some poses… this page was more for disheartened/sad poses… I think I need to just sit and work on doing a variety of poses to see what needs work… cuz these poses seem in need of some work… the detail to the characters happened yesterday when I was going through my sketchbook and tightening up those loose drawings that I did in like 30 seconds and such…

Alright, so this was just a random page… sometimes I just gotta do that, as I have said before… the above left is kinda interesting to me, I like the shape and look… but now I just need to work on what it will be. The female head is rather pathetic, so is the insect… then I just kinda went abstract on some of the stuff… or stylized…. And in the end just did a couple hands…unfinished.

March 27th, 2007, 07:10 PM
Ugh…. Move on, nothing to see here… grr… that top left face is just… makes me feel like giving up on drawing…sigh. March 27th, 2007, 07:12 PM
lol alright…. I wanted to try doing a fat person, and it ended up a woman… and somehow that ended up as a harpy… I really don’t know why… it just did. hmmm… I think when I get time I’ll do some research on bird legs and wings and redo these two.
PunkBoyLeech
March 27th, 2007, 07:29 PM
The page started out as just another random page, but then I went to class last week… really thought the result of that waitress painting was awful, so I did some research on 16th century waitress and Wench attire… its freakin’ amazing at the amount of stuff they put on back then before they were finally dressed…I mean… wow. So yeah, I was just sketching what I saw here… and taking note of what was for what.
PunkBoyLeech
March 27th, 2007, 07:30 PM
So further research into the way they dressed back then lead to some more findings… the white nightgown thing is actually called a chamise or something like that, and that is the sleeves your seeing, and the rest of it is hidden under the dress. The corset thing is actually called a bodice, and I think it is just an outer corset… dunno, I didn’t read up on what each was exactly for. the rest were just skirts and such. but so with those findings I started messing with the style and such to get what I needed… I was planning on having the waitress wearing shorts rather then a dress…. But I decided that wasn’t gonna work for a waitress.
PunkBoyLeech
March 27th, 2007, 07:33 PM
So with the basic design down, I went into trying to design the skirt and all of what will be on it… I messed with the bodices too, seeing what I could get…
PunkBoyLeech
March 27th, 2007, 07:34 PM
And one last drawing of the waitress gal… this was done while I was waiting with the others for the animation show to start… lemme just say it was definitely worth the 11 bucks I paid, gave me a new way of thinking what my short should be about… I really liked “Overtime” that one had an interesting story to it… cool… that’s why you see a very quick version of one of the “Kermit” look-alikes up in the top right. I then just started working on shapes for that one thingy in the top middle… yeah… still don’t know what it is. The one right near it was a simple thingy at the start, and then I started getting a little more detailed with it… still quite simple, but not as simple as before. And last is the warrior dude… don’t do too many warriors, but when I drew the stand and such I decided he would look good as one… yeah if I decide to actually flesh him out I am gonna have to work on designing each of his different armors.
PunkBoyLeech
March 27th, 2007, 07:35 PM
Alrighty, so I wanted this waitress to be correct proportions so I created a top, bottom, and middle so I had a guide. Then I did a basic anatomy for her, and here I would plot her stance… this is more for an idea of what the waitress should look like in the painting. With the basic shape out of the way I did a first draft of the dress… on the second pass I changed her lower body because in the first draft her lower body was just too thick for her head, so I decided to slim her up a little, and I also didn’t like the apron in front of the dresses because it just made it look odd so I put it under her side skirts. Then I did one more pass over it to get finer lines and more of a feel for what I was wanting… the head didn’t turn out all that good, but I left it because I knew when I painted the head I would fix it then. I then did a silhouette of the last line art piece, inverted the lineart, and turned on Preserve transparency on the silhouette layer, then I painted in my values for her, and the bottom right is the result… still more work to be done, but I just wanted to update yall on where I am at.
PunkBoyLeech
March 27th, 2007, 07:36 PM
So yeah, I just keep jumping from one painting to another… more because I know if I stay on one painting for long enough I start going deeper into the detail, and at the moment I just need to get a lot started so I can get quite a bit by the end of this quarter.

after sketching his arm I decided might as well do the leg too... once on the leg I thought it would be interesting to have his mechanical leg like a human... then it would kind of say that he wasn't rich enough to get a custom leg made for him, so he had to go with what they had.

Yeah machines are not my forte, thats why the mythical/fantasy side of the "Imagination" painting has more detail then the right... anyways here is some sketches of Quagmir.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 02:13 AM
while doing sketches of Quagmir I came to realize I hadn't really put much research or thought into the swamps he inhabited, so I looked at some swamp pictures and drew some of the stuff I thought would realy make the swamp painting more interesting to look at.

Well it was getting late at night and I was rushing to get this done for class the next day (I didn't get what I wanted done for class... but oh well) and so these aren't as clean or as good as they could be... I may resketch some of this later in my sketch book, or come back and define these sketches better.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 02:14 AM
Yeah...definitly need to come back and put some detail into these
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 02:14 AM
Some of Spiny... yeah... I couldn't figure out what I wanted to draw of him... and it was late at night so I was pretty much done with drawng for the night.

March 28th, 2007, 05:30 AM
These are pretty cool sketches, you've got a diverse mix of ideas in here. I love that you've taken time to research and experiment with different looks to decide what works. Makes for some interesting concepts, and it's always fun to see an artist's process. I'd love to see more face and figure studies though. And color :) the color pieces on your first page are just awesome.
Keep it coming!
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:19 PM
*Thanks Nilaffle, I will be doing more anatomy and head studies here in the near future... the reason I don't have too many is that normally I am in a place were I can't get to some reference or I am in the middle of something and haven't the time to swap out of what I am doing to find some reference. But I think I'll either print some heads out and do it that way or just make some time for studies, thanks for the suggestion.*
alright... so I wasn't in the mood to draw when I did this, so the things I got were pretty bad... but some good stuff came from it I think... for one thing it got me back going again drawing this week.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:21 PM
So yeah.... I decided to go completely random, because I couldn't think of anything specifi to draw and I hoped this would lead to something... it kinda did... some of the mechanical stuff that I have in this lead me to do the next page...
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:22 PM
So I went back to the first page in this sketchbook and decided to redraw the robot head dude again... and after doing that that lead to me drawing some basic shapes and then turning them into robot heads... and so that is how I do my abstract stuff... I put a base down and then add random stuff till I get something of some interestingness...
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:23 PM
I went back again and went to the Page with death and the other guy, and decided I liked the other dude that had the funny mask... so I redrew his head.... then I redrew it again... and again... then I went ahead and went from his base clothing to fully clothed.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:24 PM
yeah... he may be alittle off balance in the previous post and also in this post, but I don't care, this was to get his look down... and so here I added a tad bit more on his outfit... put him in an action stance, and then showed his back... then I filled the small space below with sketches of his hand... I like the idea of his hand have his four fingers wrapped together so that he only has two fingers and a thumb.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:25 PM
And two ladies...
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:25 PM
After doing the previous two females, I got into the mood to draw some ideas for my Traveler Girl and here is what I kinda came up with… The left female is kinda…well blagh *Sticks tongue out* and that’s part o the reason the other four have no face… but I like to say it’s because the drawing are too small to draw faces on them. Anyways, I realized that I just needed to start blocking out the hair when designing peoples, and then the hairstyles of my peeps won’t all be so similar.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:26 PM
After doing those faceless females I felt I should practice some female faces so I did some on this page… the very first one was done without any reference, the others I used celebrities to get the features and hairstyle kinda…. But I ain’t gonna say who I used… since none of them have much of a resemblance to who I was referencing.
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:27 PM
So before I went to work Friday, I went through those links I posted, and looked for characters I wanted to try messing with… and this is the first batch… after showing them to my younger brother (letting him see both the original and the new version side by side) he tended to go half and half… and that made me realize I need to include some of my simpler stuff in my port… so that people get a feel for what I do rather then just my painted stuff and detailed stuff…
PunkBoyLeech
March 28th, 2007, 03:29 PM
Here is a couple more from those links.... yeah... spider lady was not in those links... that part of the page looked empty once I got the others drawn so I drew the back of a spider... and then made it a spider gal... much like the Spider queen from Gauntlet I believe... I kinda like how the hair turned out on both the spider lady and the other gal.
PunkBoyLeech
April 21st, 2007, 01:24 PM
and while taking a break from traditional sketching I drew some poses for my masked dude that I sketched just some posts back... I nicknamed him "Skito"
PunkBoyLeech
April 21st, 2007, 01:31 PM
And here is some waitress poses... yeah... that other painting I started just didn't have the appeal I wanted, so here are some poses that I did so I can pick one that I like and do that.
PunkBoyLeech
April 21st, 2007, 01:31 PM
And here are some poses for my Adventuress...
PunkBoyLeech
April 21st, 2007, 01:32 PM
Anways, speaking of poses, here is some more poses of another dude I am gonna paint... I will post sketches from my sketchbook here soon
PunkBoyLeech
April 21st, 2007, 01:34 PM
no time to talk... here is a shot of what process I went through to get the start of my "Skito" character painted.
PunkBoyLeech
April 21st, 2007, 01:36 PM
Yup and here is the new waitress... I like her better... definitly gotta remember to do poses before painting characters... that and planning out how they look too...

April 21st, 2007, 01:38 PM
And now the Adventuress lady...

April 21st, 2007, 01:40 PM
nice stuff man, i like the pages of poses you did, u have a very unique style goin and like it keep it up!
dark_maggot
April 21st, 2007, 01:52 PM
Awesome poses man...do I see poses from the game and level design character?....
There is only one think that bothers me on your character paintings, is that you kind of get rid of the line art (for lack of better words...^_^...), specially on the faces the style is really different from the lineart to the painting...
Other than that, your shading is really nice and your character designs are awesome as well. Keep it up.
PunkBoyLeech
April 22nd, 2007, 12:58 AM
Thanks guys, much appreciated... and yeah man... I do lose some of the lineart's features when I go to paint... but thats kinda what I want... I want the painted version to be a little more real, whereas my lineart to be more stylized, but thanks again... I will see what I can do to the next one I do, and see if I can't keep more of the lineart features.
Alright...so alot of the previous posts were posts done for my print portfolio class... now I am going back to my old ways...so her is that one guy I started painting a couple posts before this.
PunkBoyLeech
April 24th, 2007, 08:03 PM
alright...so earlier in my postings...not too long ago, you saw two posts with sketches of some characters...one post had like a birdman on it... the other had a Spider lady.. well, when I did those I decided I would spend a couple pages working on them seeing if I couldn't come up with better ways to have them look..well... I guess I need to retry and actually make the trys smaller so I get more of a variety... but here is the big demon guy with the grass robe thingy...
Terpsichore
April 25th, 2007, 02:02 AM
Ha! Cyoot!
PunkBoyLeech
May 1st, 2007, 11:37 PM
hehehe Thanks Terpi, I am glad you likey and that I am honored with your first post on the Forums XD... maybe here some time in the near future your first post will be followed by a second... maybe even a thread starting post too :o that would be cool. hehehe thanks again for the "Cyoot" and "EEEEE" much appreciated.
Now onto more posting trying to catch up with my sketchbook... this Quarter I have alot more boring time happening and thus my sketchbook is filling up faster... here is some sketches of the Bird man... these actually done the last week of last quarter... I just didn't get around to posting them.
PunkBoyLeech
May 1st, 2007, 11:38 PM
And then onto the next character.... the Hand walker thing... these aren't really good concepting since there is not too much branching out going on... so maybe this will give me more of a start later on to work on some more variety.
PunkBoyLeech
May 1st, 2007, 11:43 PM
the horned Dogbat thingy actually is something I wanna go further with at a later date... some of the sketches though I believe are fillers for the Sketchbook XD yeah.... I was kinda wanting to get to a hundred so that I had all the sketches for the class... I almost did...but the teacher didn't count so I think I got graded as if I did...
PunkBoyLeech
May 1st, 2007, 11:55 PM
yeah... here I broke free of my constraints and went back to my random doodling... gettin ideas and such on paper so that later on in my life I can look back and recall the memories that were being made at the time I was drawing the stuff.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:06 PM
Another page of random things... yeah... no real plan for any of these... just letting my hand get some drawings done while I listened and did other things.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:09 PM
here is where drawing randomness really was good. Funny thing is I know quite a few people who get bogged down drawing because they can't draw whats in their head, thus they just stop drawing... that happens to me too... but I start drawing things at random that just happen on my page, and sometime things turn out cool and I like em... here there are a couple like that on this.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:11 PM
hehehe I and another thing of randomness... there are a couple on here that I like too... ideas that may come in handy later on when I am trying to think of stuff for an idea... I am kinda creating a bunch of default characters I can fall back on at a later point in time to get ideas, body shapes, styles, and so on.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:13 PM
SO now I am going back to those little characters I did on that one page and this time I was trying to improve upon the little guy with the large shield... hmmm... it didn't really work, so I turned him into a demon here... kinda like the demon I am gonna be using in my animation reel.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:14 PM
Now that I decided to draw the demon I started messing with body types. and such... I need to work on my anatomy some more me thinks.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:20 PM
hehehe yeah... I have been working on heads some more... they are kinda the things that get me bogged down :D . So after I build my confidence in drawing I can go back and draw heads again to lower my self esteem and get better at it. I think if I wanna draw realistic head I not only need reference to look at but also I should use charcoal...charcoal is soo badass....
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:24 PM
Alrighty… another batch of heads… I realize that while I draw heads, if I am not trying for realiztically, I need to start perfecting my style and getting something that will be recognizable as me… and not recognizable as in “hey, I know who drew that head, I’d know that crappiness anywhere” XD . I actually am pretty happy with a few of these guys on here… a lot of them actually.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:27 PM
Hmmm, page I am happy with… I think once that class ended and I no longer needed to draw, my art started improving… hmmm that sucks. So yeah there is randomness on this page most definitely, but the three in the middle make me happy, especially the women in the middle… I think that reflects my style best.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:32 PM
Yeah, more creatures… one of these days I will break free of randomness in drawing and actually draw things that are planned… hmmm… I should try that sometime…but normally those are what I call “Paintings” and as you can see the top left is a better drawing of the little dude with the big shield back on those two pages with the creatures from the past. The pose of the dude is cool, I wanna do something with it. the guy to the right if fun too so I will do something with him too. At the bottom we have a buggish face and either a deep see creature or flying thing…. I think I was thinking of turtles at the time.
PunkBoyLeech
May 9th, 2007, 12:34 PM
Hmm…. Just randomness… the bug man is cool… and the guy standing is a style I’ll have to mess with… we then have the robot dude… which with some messing with could turn out good.
nrek
May 9th, 2007, 10:51 PM
Great stuff man, I love all your little character designs. And the facial feature studies on the first page are excellent. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the kind words. You're stuff is coming along nicely. Keep posting, you're making great progress.

May 15th, 2007, 06:45 AM
ohh... great stuff. I really love your practises, I wish I had the patience to just sit and draw heads from different wievs and such (I usually just draw random stuff from difficult angles, but it seems to not be enough... heh).
Your style seems really fun and I like the more serious pictures with background a lot also. I'll come lurk every now and then~
I'll be sure to learn from your way of practising. :]
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 10:51 PM
Thanks guys, much appreciated that yall stopped by.
Alright...so the start of another sketchbook and man...did this page turn out awful... yeah... so I am working on heads slowly... I will get better.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 10:54 PM
So after those face attempts I had to revert again and do some random characters... actually for one class we had to some up with a story for a game level that my group will work on for about 9 weeks... so we came up with a little humanoid thing that lost it's memory and must work it's way through various traps to get to his family and friends and slowly piece back his memory...thats what the bottom three characters are kinda.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 10:57 PM
and so here is more heads... well I am not as disappointed with this batch as I have been the previous batches... so that makes me happy...I soo need to start researching clothing again... I need to pick a time period and work on that... then slowly work through other time periods...that and I need to look at other culture's dress styles and ways.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:01 PM
hmmm... yeah....social Psychology is pretty boring...so here we have first a page of just kinda randomness... I was drawing a kid at first...then I turned him into a western...outlaw? the birds are my Blue Bird character that I came up with for my storyboarding class... he is the Blue Bird of Happiness... yeah... it was for a kids show story that I decided to some up with. I was trying to redesign him so he was a little more Blue Birdish rather then Opusish...but alas I think his big beak will stay.

May 15th, 2007, 11:11 PM
you have some really great characters, glad to see your still working on your anatomy as well. Keep posting!

PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:35 PM
Thanks B rock, anatomy will be something I will be working on forever I think... or until I can get it good enough to make people think I just applied a sketch filter on a photo in photoshop :D hehehe not gonna happen anytime soon I can tell you that.
Alright... so now for the freshly scanned stuff..I normally get behing a couple weeks before I post what I sketched and scanned in... but this batch will be a little newer and freshly saved via the scan. This is just one of a guy looking into a small mirror and a bunch of heads... don't ask me how I get these or why I draw them...I just do.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:37 PM
Here is a page that I liked alot... the poses that the women are doing make me happy... so happy that I didn't add detail to them :D. so yeah...there is randomness on there... but also cool poses.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:39 PM
and after those last poses I was soo happy that I did guy poses too... they aren't as cool as the women... but I like em... again I liked the poses so they went no further in their development.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:42 PM
So Miss Terpsichore likes Mermaids and I thought of her and drew a mermaid...after that I did a Saytr Demon thing... and then a bug alien thing...and a bird man... humanoids are fun.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:46 PM
Yeah.... so...humanoids got me into the mood of doing things so I created a dragon... thing... it started out as a T-Rex...but turned into a dragon... wings are awesome too. the guy on the right is just a random character... I like random characters..so is the head just below him. The thing in the bottom left is some strange creature... I have been working on my strangness recently... I can do cartoony... now I am trying to branch out to strange...and maybe head in the Beautiful and cute look direction here soon.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:49 PM
Again thinking of my Game and Level design level I thought about a little guy walking around checking the world out.... then realized that we were looking for humanoid rather then human... but I like him. the T-Rex was made because the last one turned into a dragon...freakin' evolution. the guy in the bottom left is a stylized guy.. I need to do more of this type of stuff.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:52 PM
A friend sent me a link to this site that had a contest on concepts stuff and 3D stuff... and the thing that had to be created was a Gargantuan collosal thingy... and so I kinda drew some stuff that was big... and here is what I got...they all kinda vary in scale.. if you look hard you can find the human scale to the titans.
PunkBoyLeech
May 15th, 2007, 11:56 PM
Sometimes I get pages that are just like...awesome...and this was one of them. I really like each on on this page...it could be because the Knight dude at the bottom is something that is totally awesome to me and reminds me alot of heartless...which if I can one day be as good as Tetsuya Nomura then I am set... man... I am happy with this one.
PunkBoyLeech
May 16th, 2007, 12:05 AM
Well... My friend have drawn in my sketchbook quite a few times recently... and maybe I'll edit this post later and add the other stuff in here... but here is Terpsichore's floating gal... man... maybe I should have watched and drawn Anime when I was younger... well that and spent long hours working on life drawings...thats it... I will here soon work on my life drawing skills.
Anyways... so this will be up here because this was in my sketchbook...and since Terpsichore is not making a thread of her own to share her goodness...it will be up here until she tells me otherwise... so people enjoy... this is not my artwork... but some badass work in the midst of my mixed jumble of random lead doodlings.
PunkBoyLeech
May 16th, 2007, 12:08 AM
Alright...so Terpsichore's greatness inspired me to work on my women and hope to get as good as her... yeah...so here is my first attempt..pretty bad... though I do like the two heads in the bottom right.
PunkBoyLeech
May 16th, 2007, 12:09 AM
Alright...so the female figure on this one is a lot better... and I like the heads too..and the creatures...another page in which I like it all...for now.
PunkBoyLeech
May 16th, 2007, 12:12 AM
so yeah...my Head drawing skills are getting better... I don't crawl away in shame when I look at this one... the top middle is actually a try at one of the girls in my Psychology class...she is cuter of course...but I noticed what makes her look unique is her lips and eyes...I tried to get the lips right...but well... only did so well. the other heads are good I think... I still need to draw a lot more of them...and don't ask me why there is a skull in there... I don't know why I drew it.
PunkBoyLeech
May 16th, 2007, 12:14 AM
And here is the last for now... this was finished off today (15th of May in 2007) so this is really recent... yeah...just randomness...some beetle titan idea that I was playing with.

Ok, so for some reason I can't load pages 2 or 3, but I like what I've seen on page 1 anyhow. Some cool character designs and really nice eye/nose/mouth studies. I dig the scarecrow, quite evil...mwuuahaahaaa!!

I guess I am trying to become a Character designer or concept artist... what I need to do is actuall studies of things... but I find it is more convenient to draw from my head since I don't need reference for that... the big gal is actually one of the Thumbs fleshed out.

July 10th, 2007, 02:25 AM
i really love your sketches but two things.
a - you need to use larger bolder strokes. that will prevent your art from getting 'furry lines'. normally done through using your wrist or elbow to guide the stroke.
b - can you fix the contrast on your scans. those are some wonderful drawings and i need to really concentrate to see how great they are.
dierat
August 1st, 2007, 05:03 PM
I agree with bakatron; I know you like the 50% grey bg, but I think it might be a bit too dark. Maybe 25%? Try uploading one or two with a lighter bg and see what ppl think.
And I didn't go through the whole sketchbook, but I really liked the waitress sketches you did on pg 3 (I think it was 3; not sure). Kudos!

Thanks you two... when I get to my posting my sketches in the now, I will attempt the 25% gray instead of the 50% gray I had been using.
I plan to start posting here again soon, I will catch you all up with my here and now art pieces, and then I will try and build up to at least a weekly update, if not daily... daily is a long ways away though.
Anyways, no more chatter, time for art posting goodness

Alright, so I graduated June of '08 with my Bachelors in Media Arts & Animation, the end of that September I get on as an animator with a Game company called "Barking Lizard Technologies". I worked on an IP of theirs creating animations and the like. In November they are approached by EA to create a Wii game where Teen/preteen kids have to Dance to play. Do note: November was the only slow month I had there... as in that was actually the only time there I worked normal 8 hour days. Near the end November, I was put on costume development for the pitch we were creating to show EA at Christmas. Here is what I came up with thanks to the various sources of research I pulled from.
