Swampy (http://www.freewebsitehosting.net/websites/ceojoe/beast01.txt)

I would've called in "Swamp Beast," but... heh, that was already taken.

This is the lineart for what will be my first photoshop-exclusive piece. I havent quite started it yet, as I'm having difficulty picking a style that would work well with something like this piece (Any suggestions would be veyr helpful, actually), as well as picking colors (any suggestions for a color scheme would also be marvelous). So since its not quite in production as of now, i still have time to fix it, so please crit! Thanks!

VERY hard to make anything out. The line thickness seems the same width. Learn to vary it (smaller line width for things in the background or not as important).

As it is your creature just gets lost in this piece. Since you say you're going to colour it, all is forgiven. ;]

As for colour schemes, can't help you there I'm afraid since I take long enough getting colours right on my own pics.. but since it's a swamp beast in a swamp (by the looks of things) I'd say mostly greens (obviously). Look for Swamp Thing covers/pics to get a rough idea of colours for this kind of setting.

*sigh*

Geez, I really tried to vary the thickness when I re-traced this one, but I think I only succeded in making it darker. Oh, well, guess I just need more practice.

For the color scheme, I was thinking a bluish brown for the plating and a few different shades for the skin, such as teal, more hue sof blue-green, and some darker green. It's going to be a night scene, (thats the MOON, not the sun) so the shades of blue shouldnt seem that out of place, right?

Hey.

If the line art is on a separate layer, you could go over the background parts with a lighter colour. Maybe a light grey.

But since you're going to colour... ;]

I only said about greens because I wasn't sure what time of day it was and greens are quite common to swamps. Being honest, I didn't even notice the sun/moon. Had I noticed I would've thought it was a sun. Only because of the heat lines you have there.

Oh, geez, do they look like heat lines? It supposed to be really foggy and atmospheric, so I just sort of drew in some lines for where the moon parted the haze.

it's good, but one gets lost in detail...there is no overview given.
i'd suggest some red on the horns, dark green on the plates and this "swampy" yellow-ish green on the rest of the skin...yellow eyes maybe, dark blue for the sky, light yellow on the moon(aprox.like the grin smily but lighter)...uhm,well some sick brown on the tree, dark green plants and brown mushrooms...then make a layer above and paint over it all with some yellow or blueish colour

I needs to be colored. :) And just start simple, do the whole multiply layer ontop with color and gain some confidence from it. Thats what I did back in the day. Cool swamp-creature :)

Thanks a lot for the help, Carne and Bug! Check out the link below to see the colors I've chosen so far, and please post your thoughts on them on that thread.
