I was glad to learn from Sciboy recently that my software was being used here. :) If I had only known before. :( He has put me in touch with Jason. I have no idea where this will end, but hopefully it'll result in a new and improved version of Sketcher running on this site. We'll see in a couple of weeks...

EDIT: I just found this little treasure of a thread:

Great to see you guys put Sketcher to good use! :3

Yeah, i'd like to see paintchat implemented. Its hard to get opencanvas working, i actually never got the chance to try out sketcher.

:O New sketcher!??!?
Hopefully with some less layer restrictions?

The layer restrictions aren't arbitrary. They were put there to avoid people getting OutOfMemoryErrors from their Java plugins. Java defaults to about 64 MB of so-called heap memory for applications and applets. This can be changed, but involves a rather technical procedure, so it was decided to conveniently limit the layer count instead. The only way Sketcher Mark Two can have more layers is if it optimizes its memory usage. One potential idea is Greyscale layers. These would consume 4 times less memory.

I thought I'd offer a screenshot of the newer "Popcorn" build of Sketcher:
