My first piece of work on CS.Org

Yeah I know i've been here since the first few days of this place starting up, but believe it or not i have never posted any of my work out of fear of being laughed at.

Anyway, this is a one hour piece that I just did in a lesson whilst bored.

It was referenced from a pic of a baby i found on google and was then painted in Photoshop with a mouse.:smirk:

yeah the whole thing was bascially jumps blobs of color smudged and smeared into shape.

They I applied a 50% color burn with red in it.

Looks nice. But I think you probably overdid it with the smudge. Just my opinion.

This piece has some promise, but falls apart in trying too hard to be "creative".

The mood is very odd, but enjoyable, and the form definitions are interesting and creative. In the babies face, I like it very much how the right eye bleeds into the rest of the face..unintentional or not, it is a nice touch.

Unfortunately, I feel that the smudging is very over-used, and makes it seem almost as if you did to mask something. It has the potential to be novel (in the good sense), but, in my opinion, simply comes off as tacky.

Sorry for not commenting on this before, but I haven't been here for a loong time, 'cause I haven't done anything myself.

As for the piece, I like the atmosphere you've managed to create, and as for the crits above I can partly agree, but on the other hand, if you had done pretty much the exact same thing on canvas with oil, you'd have gotten better crits. So what I'm trying to say is that perhaps the crits are a bit unfair based on the fact that this is a digital work.

But then i guess I'm a bit biased myself, since I know you. ;)

Anyway - I like it.

I enjoy it immensely! The colors are the perfect choice for this subject, the only other choice I could think of would be a golden sort of look and the way you utilized the smudge tool on the pic reminds me of things growing, reaching out to new areas, like veins. I really like the expression on the face, he looks like an old soul. Really awesome.
