What are those gill-looking doo-hickies on her side(those two hard lines), can't make it out.
Impressive work :)

Hey Charlie, thanks for the comment... yeah, those gill-looking doo-hickies on her side are indeed gills, but unfortunately lost definition in the reduction process. In the original (slightly larger than A4) they are quite well defined.
Tristan: Hey thanks for the merge! I've only just arrived and am working out the machinery here :p

wow that is one scary mermaid :S anyways a few crits on the 2nd one. her arm looks a bit short, althought its in such an angle :S still looks funny to me :P and the hole picture looks all romantic and peacful (exept some hot love going on :P) but still he got an arrow in his chest? it doesnt belong there :S due to the expressions they have, they dont seem sad at all :P anyways the rest are quite nice :)

Hey! I like your aircastle pick, however it could certainly use some working out of the different layers of varying depth. It all kinda seems to be on one plane now. And things that are far off are for some reason all black? = wrong. Try instead using lower contrast the further off an object is, and using more blacks in the shadows, the closer it is.
I like your style, with some polish these pieces could be awesome.

I really love the hair and tail fin on the mermaid, and I love the airship one too. Incredible detail.

sorry for the quick and hasty reply-
the hair looks like spaghetti, to me. i don't know how to fix it or what to suggest, or anything like that, just making an observation.
perhaps if it was more modeled, more shaded, less outlined and cartoony, then the spaghetti monster look would be less obvious.
not really a crit, more of an observation

I really like the details in the background in the last couple of pictures. The way you have the wings attaching to the body of the female in the second picture is excellent. Really nice skin tones, in both the first and second pictures. I think all of them are great.

LOL! Thanks Bizarre, but the spaghetti doesn't need 'fixing', the effect was fully intentional, as neither do her wing's need 'fixing' because you've never yet met a women with wings before either (or maybe I'm wrong :P ). The hair is simply a method and style helpling to denote the character's alieness from the 'norm' or of this world. It's all just another aspect of fantasy.
Nonetheless, thank very much for your concern and observation.

Hey Theo! Thanks for your comment :D Yep, I agree with all of the above, the only problem is, this pic has been drawn with .18 iso-pens and it's almost impossible to control the intensity of black without extensive grading or 'dotting' which is impractical with a work of this 'realtime' resolution, about 300-400 pen-dots per square inch. The time factor plays a large part of the rendering too... cant remember how long this took to complete, but it was somewhere in the region of 40+ hours over about 4 months or so.
Incidentally, this work was also my first artwork of any kind in over 12 years....
I could have moved into ink 'wash' territory, but this is also very difficult to achieve effectively without excess 'bleeding' occuring and affecting any localised line or dot-work. The final solution might be pencil fills, but this is not preferred by most iso-pen artists for varying reasons.
Thanks again for your comment and keen observation. :D

Um... Well firstly Doom, thanks very much for spending the time to comment on my works.... appreciated. I thought the scene here was relatively simple - the guy has been mortally wounded, whilst his friend or lover is perhaps giving him a farewell kiss... or maybe just a bedside 'get-well-soon' kiss. Nothing more than that, I should think.
Yeah, I had a lil trouble with that inside hand, but as this was my 'first ever' pencil sketch (I had previously only ever drawn with iso-pens, with very, very little pencil sketching) I didn't want to attempt to extend non-existent pencil skills by playing with it too much.
I'm no kind of pencil artist and was simply trying this medium as a change from pens, which are tedious and extremely long-winded to work with.
Cheers :D
