hi ca,
thought i show some charas i made in my free time. hope you like it.
the hole idea came while i was sketching streetfighter-charas (http://comicagentur.de/sketches/streetfighter.gif) and remembered when i was a 12 year old boy, dreaming of his own fight-game... :ninja++:
so, it really was fun, doing this. nearly everything is done without ref.
but as i am not very experienced in game-chara-design.... -i hope there are not too many mistakes!
enjoy it and tell me what you think.... -thanks!
the first one. i wanted him to look stupid but strong:

after the first one took to long, i decidet to try a faster technik and i think it also looks better:

if you like it and if i can find the time... -there will be more
-arne :hatsoff:
and sorry for this lousy english..

hey nice stuff.
just wanted to give a little opinion on the characters; the first guy doesn't look all that stupid (does look pretty strong though :)), non of his features really indicate stupidity. his expression even looks emotional and calculating - kinda deep.
the other guy, I feel, lacks other crab characteristics. he looks to me a little too much like.. well a dude with crab arms. maybe his face\neck area could use a little crabisation, if you know what I mean.
really nice stuff, your technique works very well. hope I helped!

Very good Arne, I really dig both Charas. Looking bad and mean, the poses are dinamic, wellshaded, very good, more of those freaks, please:)

I think the designs need work, although that is a personal thing, obviously. They look very early 90's, boring to me. The top dude's boots, for example, just look very ugly to me.

Christ lohan, thats a bit fucking harsh. Way to encourage hard work.
anyhooo...
really nicely rendered dude, the drapery is a bit haphazard i would suggest a few studies (I need to do that to in saying that ^_^).

I really like them. I would echo that the first dude does not look all that stupid, however, strong...............yes. I also say that the lobster guy, if you look at his face he kinda looks unhappy, of course I would be also if I had lobster hands (would make it VERY difficult to make out with your favorite female :( ). However, I think the lines and details are spot on. :)

Very nice detailing, but both are off balance. first guy will fall back, and Lobster looks like his right claw is carrying him over. Next time, when you're just starting the figures, turn the page a bit until you see them balance out, the bulk of your mass is always spread evenly over your feet. Once you get to recognizing that point, you can set them square on the page, or just scan them rotated, no one will even notice... :-)

thanks for the reply!
@croovman: well, i thought the mask would make him look stupid enough.
the second chara, i didnīt want him as a mutant, only some fighter, wearing crab-clothes/armament (whats the correct word for "rüstung" -sorry), actually i didnīt really think of a mutant.
@eric: great you like it, yeah, i have some ideas for more of these freaks.
@lohan: okay, guess you are right. but most of my works look like the 90īs or earlier... on the first chara, a modern mechanic wouldnt do well, i wanted it a little like self-made (i have a big story/history for this chara, but writing it down would break my english-skills). and i think "ugly" is not a good word in a critique.
btw, you have some funny art on your homepage.
@asgardian: okay, it nearly was the first time drawing drapery without the use of photorefs. i will concentrate more on this.
@evildragonfire: hehe.. i have a good idea drawing his girl. guess i do it next week!
@RocknOats: hmm.. the first one, okay.. but the second chara is in some kind of attacking pose, so i think it works.
hope i didnīt forget something... -i try to concentrate on the points at the next charas.
