Hello,
Can someone please help me? I am confused as to which item is today's topic? I read the sticky saying it is posted at 2am EST everyday, but I see no timestamp on this topic, is it safe to assume that the one listed at the very top of the forum(minus the sticky) is the current one to work on till 1:59am?
Sorry for the newb question, I just want to get envolved with your group, you are all very talented and I apreciate your time and inspiration.

Yeah I am new here too drax, but it seems like the DSG's are not very strict, there is no voting, and no ending of topic once the time is up, I think they are mainly here to give us something to get us going and come up with ideas and improve on our drawing/painting abilitys, mainly for our own benefit.

As the sun set down on another day, these evil men have decided there has been enough pillaging, raping, killing and whatever else it is that evil men do. The don't realize that the flood will take them all.

Spearhunters cross the dusty plains of a distant planet, weary and depressed after another kill-less hunt. Or..."We've got Spear-it yes we do, we've got Spear-it, how bout you?" Sorry, I'm bored at work and very goofy.

"DSG 1077: Fantasy: BEDRAGGLED SUNSET PROCESSION OF SPEARMEN A-TOP ANTEDILUVIAN BEASTS "
ammm...what?
seriously : what?
this is a DAILY sketch group. and it takes me half a DAY just to
get what the hell the topic is.
why is the high-in-the-sky language so important here?
what is so wrong with a simple:
"a convoy of spearmen on ancient beasts riding a muddy sunset BG."
?
chaosrocks
May 25th, 2006, 07:09 AM
that would be fine too, although the muddiness of the sunset wasn't actually specified.Do you have some objection to expanding your english vocabulary? I have an inordinate fondness for sesquepedalian words myself. you know googling an unknown word only takes a minute. If you like, from now on we should just assume your sketch will be half a day later..;P......thats ok with me.
I think Mr. Hand is doing a fine job and should feel free to use any words he likes ..

expanding your english vocabulary is great. really.
but there`s expanding your english vocabulary, and
then there`s reading the same sentence over and over, and googling every word just to get a vague idea of what the topic is about.
i got all the due respect for Mr. William b. Hand, i do.
but we`re all here to draw, paint, practice, and generaly have some fun.
not for english lessons.
:)

It's so freakin' awesome how the level of work has escalated since the last time I tried doing daily DSG's (and hey, on that note aren't we supposed to have a new topic by now? WTF?) seriously great work from everyone involved.
To answer White Wolf's question I usually start everything around 17x11, just rough as hell, and then I decrease by percentages as I'm working. Not really worried about printing these. I think the final working file size was about 4x3in.
Chuck: I know what you mean about deciphering the topics but hey, why not broaden everything at once right? Hell it's part of the reason we all collect so many art books no?

Well I could be wrong but I think being vague is intended, that way the words are more up to the artist to decide what they mean, and that means a greater variety of ideas. If it was me, after looking up the words, I would choose whichever appealed most to me and go with that.. and if it is wrong, oh well.

Sorry for using less common words in the topic heading... I knew some people would be frustrated by the need to google the meanings, and I probably should have done a little explaining in the blurb area. I was pressed for time, though, so I put the onus upon those willing to go the extra mile and type a little into their favourite search engines.
In explanation, I offer that part of what can make a topic inspiring is not the topic itself, but the way it's worded. I do my best (in the limited window of time I have for using the computer at work) to create a word-picture that will evoke something interesting in the reader.
I knew I was making some of you work, which is why I put the ;) at the tail of that explanation. I can't imagine bitching about such a thing, frankly, but to each his own. My apologies.
;)

In my opinion, "antediluvian" is such a great word that it should be used whenever possible.

Aga Giant sand worm deal? I see a few smaller llama like beasts, so I'm not sure what's going on concept wise. I think the pallette is a little boring, and a little too sketchy - creating confusion, as random lines create random details leading to distraction. I feel a little bad without a little praise, but I can't point to anything specific that's good, I can only say that I've seen worse :D
