What's the difference between painter 8 academic and painter 8?
I'm just curious if the academic label will mean less features offered.

You may want to double check with the company you purchase it from, but as I've found out in the past the only difference is "the educational version is NOT for commercial use." Other than that, the features, etc. should be identical. You'll just see the splash page come up with 'EDUCATIONAL VERSION'.
I have the educational version of PS7, and I'm thinking of buying the edu version of p8... they're great for me to learn/play with, and I don't sell anything that I make with them.

I can't seem to find any differences listed on the Corel site, I guess I'll just go for the academic version. its 200 dollars cheaper. :D

I believe the academic version does not include a manual. There are however online help files (Painter 8>help>help topics), which seems to be pretty much a copy of the manual anyway.
If you wish to purchase a paper manual, Corel used to supply them directly for Painter 7, and perhaps they will do the same for version 8.
