Farewell to the rain
"The Journey Begins" Challenge

Not very pleased with the final result, but perhaps some of you like it.

I like it, but I feel like for the journey begins entry, I want to see where they're looking, where they're going. Because a lot of it is whited out it's left to mystery, but it doesn't make me really care that much. I really like it as a picture, just not as a journey begins entry. I wish I could almost see the outline of a door or something coming from where the light is, just enough to make me think of where they might be going.

This is a conceptual issue I have with the piece, so take it with a large grain of salt, but I would have liked the people in the sun to perhaps be dropping or lowering their umbrellas as they leave the rain behind and enter the sun. Still, very fun picture.

Well, I'm quite pleased with the final result and I have to say I disagree with the last two posts. I like the way the light is washing out the details. It creates a stark contrast with the people still in the rain and it also helps me to appreciate the darker orange/violet hues you have going on in the left half of the piece. I think going too much further would create a little too much clutter, and you've avoided that well here. I disagree with the umbrellas needing to be lowered as they enter the sunlight because it would take away from the idea that they just got there from the rain. Lowered umbrellas would indicate that yes, they were in the rain at some point, but it wouldn't be as clear and identifiable as having them still raised. And who knows, maybe it's so bright that people are choosing to keep them raised to provide shade.... which would be an interesting statement that we as people are never satisfied with our current situation; "the grass is always greener" mentality.

Great piece overall. Love the originality of the design.

I hadn't considered that at all. Now I'm kinda groovin' on it.

Wow, love the colors! Seems umbrellas usually have more than 5 spokes, but whatever, they're fantasy umbrellas :)

Adam Hunter Peck - Thanks...I don't even know if I understand it myself.

s.s.nails - Thanks...and you're right about umbrellas. There just is something mystical about them.

ThinMint - Much appreciated, and I agree...as a "Journey Begins" entry it wasn't very successful.

fukifino - Could've worked your suggestion...but I think Dutton saved me on this one. Thanks, nonetheless.

Dutton - It's an honour! You pointed out things that I hadn't really thought about, which is great...and I was quite happy with the overall perspective you gave of the image. Thank-you very much!

Marko Djurdjevic - Thanks, man, especially coming from you!

Arne S. - Thanks...don't know that one! (It reminds me of Blade Runner.)

midknight523 - Thanks.

rWDrk - Thanks...actually, now that I received all your kind words I like it more.

Pixeldragoon - Great...not that it hurts your eyes but that you like it. Thanks!

nonie - Thanks. You're probably right about the umbrellas. I didn't even check that one out. But as you said (ufff) they're fantasy umbrellas. :)
