Hi, I've been using a CRT monitor for a while, but it takes too much space, so I'm thinking of getting a LCD one, but I have no idea which one I should get, there are so many of them out there.
I got around $500~$600 budget.

any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

you may not believe me but the dell flat panels are the best out there.. better than the mac panels even. dunno about the price in the states though.

by the way that's not counting the super expensive 'pro' colour callibrated panels though.

Thanks,
are LCD good enough for colors on photoshop/painter??
because in my past experience with LCD at school was that i couldn't really tell the difference inbetween 80% gray to 100% black.

blacks are fine on the dells, but overall not as good as crt i'm afraid. you'll get used to the angle colour shifts after a while though. try and keep a small crt as a second monitor to compare though.

no worries mate. make sure it's an ultrasharp model. i'd go for the 2005 fpw (i think that's what it was called) for your price bracket.

i don't work for dell btw ;)

Dell's are the same as Apple's flat panels. They come from the same manufacturer.

Unless you really, REALLY need the space, it's best to stick with CRT. I've found 21" CRTs in my area on craigslist for around 50 bucks. Flat screens are nice but they're expensive and they encounter too many problems atm in the longrun. I'm waiting for DLP myself. And I mean when those are cheap.

i've been thinking of getting the dell 20" wide myself. are the colours print accurate, or can it be calibrated to be print accurate?

i'm don't want to get a CRT, it used to literally burn my eyes and i couldn't look at it for more than half an hour without some sort of pain.

I use a Dell 2005FPW and I really like it. I have an older NEC CRT on the side to check for weird colors or black levels, but I usually dont have a problem. Check Dell Small Business for cheaper prices on the widescreen lcd monitors, and search google for rebates or special codes on it from Dell, because there's usually some kind of sale going on.

singapore's selling it for S$1000 while japan is selling it for JPY55,000. somewhere about S$800. the versions available are the 2007FPW, does that make it more cool?

US$1 = S$1.4~5

nope you're wrong. they are from the same two manufacturers (plural) on different lines, but none of the models are the same. they also have different electronics. look it up.

I just did a quick reasearch for monitors, and Dell's stuff seem to be
made in US, and Apple's stuff seem to be done in England..
and by 2 different manufactors..So I guess Gezstar is right then.
I may be wrong , I just did a quick reasearch
Would be cool to get facts, instead of thoughts though.

*Correct me if Im wrong*
