Hey, im gonna delete the rubbish off my ipod and i want to put something new on there so does anyne have any recommendations of good bands?

The kind of bands i like are
Tsunami Bomb
Funeral for a friend
panic at the disco
fall out boy(but not sugar we're going down damnit!soooo overplayed by chavs!)
System of a down
Avenged sevenfold

but im also quite ecclectic, i like things with a catchy rhythm like kelis- milkshake/ trick me, also jazz like joolls holland and jamie cullum, film soundtracks especially by danny elfman for tim burton, just generally a lot

so i'd be grateful for any suggestions!!

If i download some it would be cool if you say your favourite song by the band too so i can listen to it for myself if i find it

thanks

xx

well i like alternative/indie. so thats kinda what i can recommend.
yeah yeah yeahs are good. Their album show your bones is much better than their first album. The libertines, the grates, the concretes, and the strokes.
also the doors rock. so you should have every album of the doors on your ipod. Morrison has a voice like no other. morrison hotel is my fav. album.

thats about it, good night and good luck.

Hmmm... I can't even begin to predict what you'll like so here is a list of bands you should check out and see where the cards fall.

Morphine
Tricky
Dalek
Breaking Laces

Velocity Girl (I'm a sucker for noise pop... if you like, try Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service)

Pretty Girls Make Graves

At the Drive In (must have, quite possibly the last true rock band)
Sparta and/or Mars Volta (remnants of above)

The Clash (c'mon, London Calling should already be on everybody's iPod)

Built To Spill (and if that floats your canoe, Troubled Hubble)

The Black Keys

The Pogues (I recommend Rum, Sodomy & the Lash as a beginner album for these guys)

Bloc Party (Silent Alarm is the album you want to select from)

Drag the River if you don't mind dabbling in the western side of music

Old 97's if you're a fan of both western and The Beatles

Orbital is a must have, particularly the In Sides album, it's not your average techno, truly great stuff.

Same goes for The Orb, check out Toxygene, it's like aural draino, you'll have no music stuck in your head after hearing it... which is... wierd but useful sometimes

Firewater (Self-branded "circus rock". You can get them on iTunes, listen to Dark Days Indeed. Great track!)

The Flaming Lips last album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, was brilliant.

Kid 606 if you're into progressive music (he's one of the pioneers of glitch).

Kinky's The Headphonist

MC Frontalot (http://www.frontalot.com/), particularly Indier Than Thou and Crime Spree.

Lucero
The Pixies (who frankly changed music even if very few Americans realize it)
The Reverend Horton Heat
Portishead
Deltron 3030 (or any of Del The Funky Homosapien's many projects)

and finally, two words... William Shatner (try and get your hands on Common People from the Has Been album).

Blind Guardian.

Notable songs:

And then there was silence
Another holy war
Battlefield
Blood on my hands
Blood tears
Bright eyes
Mirror Mirror
Noldor
Punishment Divine
The soulforged
Thorn
Under the ice

They are german powermetal if you like to know, and they often have some fantasy undertones...

I haven't heard of any of the bands you listed except Fall out boy. That said, I'm a HUGE Rush fan. Progressive hard rock with a singer who sounds like he's breathing helium while being nipple twisted by a polar bear (only more melodic). And Queen. Queen is AWESOME. Sheer Heart Attack is worth it just for Brighton Rock (Yay for 5 minute guitar solos! I <3 Brian May).

Hmm, lemme see...alternative bands other than the ones listed:

Lostprophets (so good!)
He Is Legend
The Bronx - really fun, listen to 'Heart Attack American' up loud
Alexisonfire
gyroscope (aussie band, pretty good)
motion city soundtrack (they have a keyboardist. interesting sound)
EDIT: Millencolin! How could I forget them?

Some other good music:

dj shadow
unkle
sneaker pimps
massive attack
muse
x-ray dog
soundgarden
stone temple pilots
the tea party (must listen!)

Hm well here's some bands you might/moght not like ^^ I dunno most bands you posted there but System of a Down but anyways... I'm usually pretty opened to music. I go from old 90s eurodance to bands like Slipknot, along with some video game music. But here's the bands I recommend (hardcore, not techno or dance or whatever.)

- 30 Seconds to Mars
- Abandonned Pool
- Drowning Pool
- Adema
- Breaking Benjamin
- Chevelle
- Kittie
- Lacuna Coil
- Orgy
- Papa Roach
- Sevendust
- Staid
- Spineshank
- Seether
- Stone Sour
- Slipknot
- Thrice

Have fun! :)

Because of the already long list, I'm going to keep mine short.

1. Coheed and Cambria, and 2. Cloud Cult. Also check out Thrice as MariaSunderland said. Coheed and Cambria is closer to the bands you posted, but Cloud Cult's latest album was awesome.

If you want more, check out Pandora. (http://www.pandora.com/) You type in bands you like, and it plays songs from similar bands. Hope this helps!

Oh yeah, another band that I really wish were better known... Boy Sets Fire.

It's like Rise Against, but with actual talent. I remember the first time I heard a Rise Against song on the radio I immediately thought, "WTF? Did Boy Sets Fire get castrated or something?". It was only after the song ended that I learned it was a different band that IMHO is trying very hard to imitate someone much better themselves.

I would like to add "Prodigy- Music for the Jilted Generation" to my list as I have been recently reminded of how good it was.

Chevelle- This Type of Thinking = spiffy record

I'm also liking Millencolin so far.

Edit: MEP. disagree, Rise Against are made of pure uncut win in my universe.

Bump.

LeFran, in future one of the easiest ways to d/l new music is to search a couple of bands that you love on Amazon.co.uk then check the "customers who looked at this..." lists and download whatever they did, it's surprisingly accurate most of the time I found.
