Eliphos 002
:: Species Name: Khüllo Crawler
:: Date Found: 8/03/2097
:: Writen by Brasshorsekiller
Description: Small mammalian creatures whose name is derived from their
ability to cling to and crawl on smooth, stone surfaces. They are capable of flying
or gliding only short distances and live in rocky, desert canyons, where they form
intricate networks of tunnels in the rock.
By using a slightly acidic secretion to soften the rock surface they carve
away and form their tunnels with their extremely hard claws. Khüllo crawlers are
nocturnal, insect-eating creatures which live together in populous colonies.
They have dozens of bony spines on their bodies which rattle together to create
a loud noise and frighten off potential predators.

I thought of a sugarglider too.. I used to have one.. her name was Taffy.. man she was a bitch..
it was cool.. she hated everyone but me.. and would try and bite everyone... on the eyeball, yea!
Man could she sling poop.. and yogurt.. and just about anything from her cage and somehow manage to get it stuck to all the walls..
she used to run up the curtains and fly down , then do it over and over and over.. then she'd come and play tug-of-war over the bag of almonds (she loved nuts but you can feed them too much protean 'cause they get constipated)
and when she screeched at people it sounded like an insane, rather "healthy", zombie cricket....
I had to send her off to live with a breeder in Texas 'cuase I couldnt have her in college.. but she's doin' good.. and she's mating a lot..
I'll stop jabberin' now and try and draw this thing of yours.. as soon as I learn how to use painter 7

Well, let's get this started. I did this in about 30 minutes.

I have it in mid screech feeling threatened by the nosy artist. About as cute as a flying alien tree rat can get.

I figured just because it's mammilian, it doesn't need to be furry (been watching those BBC/Discovery "Prehistoric Beast" shows...)
Its perch exaggerates its scale, unfortunately; I intended it to really be about racoon size (minus rudder tail). The jowls house the acid secretion glands. The neck perforations are ears. The pointed snout and bony ridges help with tunneling. Although noctural, this guy (gal?) is bellowing at sundown, inverse-rooster style. ;)
2 hrs., Photoshop.
(Cool creature spec, BHK, and your previous entry was stunning!)

I sketched this out for yas !
The wings come off the front thighs. The claws are sheathed with hard bone or smething, the pointer claw is angled different than the other 3 claws.
The two antennaes come out from the mane and as you can see, the face is encased in hard bone plates to assist with digging through rock.
The noise it makes comes from the beads on it's back and the tips of it's antennae. It shakes it's back spikes to make the noise. Much like a cobra would.
I'd like some crits about the hind legs...and as well, I didn't demonstrate anything of the acid that it uses.http://art.basementlife.net/images/khullo.jpg

my attempt:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/186210/kcrawler.jpg
observations on khüllo crawler:
big eyes -for seeing in the tunnels
brownish colour -not to draw too much attention to itself
dermis -to glide over short distances(between front and back leg)
acidal secretion(spitted out) -to form tunnels easier
big claws -to form rough shape of the tunnels
tail(not in picture) -to coordinate gliding
bony spines -the khüllo crawler raises its back(like a cat) and agitates
observation on painting:15 minutes sketch
