Ethinic Features [Asian]

I'm look currently on how to draw people of dfferent races. It seems that when being schooled you usually draw white people/ skull and stuff. I already got some info on the Negro skull and how its different.

I'm just wondeirng about the asian skull and what other than the eyes do the asian people have. Thanks. So far I've read that their face or skull is more flatter. I don't know if its true or not. On the other hand this asian chick I went to school with had a really flat face.

SO if you could list their facial features. What long short, wticks out? and whatever else, thanks.

You mean you are looking for the skull of an asian with all info on muscle structure, fat pockets and so on? Thats heavy into anthropology.

My suggestion is just going and drawing an asian friend, or find pictures online to use as references.

Considering that observation is the basis of all drawing, you'd better work on getting good at it.

I assume by Asians you mean the mongoloids.

I reckon one of the most distinguishing features of an "Asian" is the spatial relationship of their eyebrows to their eyes. Caucasian eyes tend to appear deep into the face with their brow ridge overshadowing them like a roof, on the other hand, Asian eyes are shallower, their eyebrows are higher above the eyes and do not cast distinctive shadows on their eyes (as caucasians do).

The other common features of mongoloids include:
-hair straight and hard.
-nose wider at the base (compared to caucasoids), and lower.
-face appear wider and cheek more protrudging.
-moderate to relatively dark skin tone.

Ziyi Zhang is probably a bad example as she looks more European then most asians do.

good luck, i think you should be careful in generalizing though, as not all people belonging to a "race" look exactly alike. There isn't only one bone structure that all asians, blacks, whites, etc. have.

Agreed with what some others have said here, I'm not insanely offended or anything mind you, but this thread is starting to become somewhat too stereotypical...not all asians have the "asian look with the slit eyes"....and we DO have eye lids (did coro really do that pic???) some of even have DOUBLE (OMG I KNOW :P) eyelids too!

The best way to design your asian characters to look more asian is....just look at more photos of asians and study from them I reckon, I do agree that there are certain characteristics such as reduced brow ridge and less pointier nose but you know sometimes one can have the opposite and still look asian, put some variety in your designs people!

I swear next time I see someone design an asian guy with a Fu Manchu moustache....
