I'm just starting off in my attempts in building in the UT2004 editor. I was wondering if anybody might know any really good tutorial sights they could share. Suggestions or help of any sort concerning the topic is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
CHuck

UDN is the main site for Unreal editing, it has some links and info there.

Also if you have UT2k4 I think it comes with a bonus disc with video tutorials on it (or maybe that was UT2k3?) ... either way, they're made by the friendly folks at www.3dbuzz.com , and you can download some very good video tutorials on UT2k4 level building there.

Thanks that was some helpful stuff. Yeah after I typed this up a friend of mine told me about the UT2004 special edition. It's got some kick ass tutorials, like 600 hundred hours of video. Good stuff.

600 hours? Wow, it's kind of a shame that UT2k4 is getting fairly dry mutliplayer wise...I tried to make a level quite a while back, fun stuff!

UDN is good for technical research (though it's not 100% up to date in some areas -- their tutorials are often fairly old, based on earlier builds) but if you want feedback from UT200* mappers, modelers, coders, and modders there's no better forum than the Beyond Unreal (http://forums.beyondunreal.com/) site, IMHO. their mapping, modeling and coding forums have been invaluable to me.

also be sure to check out the Unreal Wiki (http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Home_Page), one of the best sites for from the trenches modding info.

Another active Unreal modding forum is the Atari site. (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=249)

no kidding dude, I was hardcore utxx fan for like 5 years. Ut2004 multiplayer has been dead for awhile now. Pubs for sure, what few good games that go on are clan matches or private. Used to map too, but then I went to college and just didnt have the time for it anymore :-(

Yeah, UT99 ruled my life for a while. I ran a competitive clan for nearly 3 years, then joined a new one for 2k3, but the community in 2kX pretty much died.

but the community in 2kX pretty much died.maybe for the gamers... but for mappers and modders, i think the community's pretty solid, or was last i was frequenting it ('bout a year ago). i learned a lot from lots of different folk, cranked out a few maps and a couple of small-scale special-purpose (not gameplay) mods, did a few machinima-style animation demos. woulda been no fun a'tall tryin' to pick all that up without those forums and the wiki i cited.

My own experiences with the 2k3 editor made it seem pretty buggy (which is saying a lot when comparing it to the originaly UnrealED, which was buggy as hell). I would constantly get unexplained lighting issues that really turned me off of it. But I was a poor level designer anyways. :)
