I'm wondering if Photostitch can it be used for hooking together multiple-section scans of large images... does it work for drawings or does it just make things worse?
(Currently I use Photoshop layers and a lot of patience when patching together section-scanned work.)

well....i'd say your best bet is to buy a bigger scanner if you dont like using ps.
i wouldn't trust any other imaging program. but thats just me.

Photoshop CS2 has an automated function called Photomerge. Pretty much does the same as photostitch I guess. Won't speculate which one is more powerful here coz I honestly don't know.
Its under File->Automate->photomerge
Will be easier to open all the files you want to merge before going into that option. You can save it as a .PMG file (photomerge file format) or as a layered PSD if you want to further edit the picture using other photoshop tools.
Have fun.

Thanks for the CS2 tip, I'll definitly look into that! And if it doesn't work too well, no loss.
(right now a new scanner is not an option.)

Just wanted to mention that CS2's photomerge worked really well! Took all the headache out of matching up section scans.
