Topic: Water War Fountain

Background: It is becoming apparent that world war 4 will not be fought over land, or ideology, or religion, but natural resources. Within the next several years, a major shift is going to occur in the earth's resource patterns. It is predicted that sometime between 2010 and 2012, our DEMAND for resources will exceed our SUPPLY. That means we will be using our resources faster than we can produce them.

This means that we start dipping into our 'savings', making prices of pure resources skyrocket. This causes a trickle down effect to everything that is produced on earth, and ultimately the cost of living becomes prohibitive.

What is more harrowing, however, than the looming oil crisis, is a global shortage of pure, drinkable water. While oil is used to run our modern society, water is even more fundamental to our existance in any capacity. Water is precious. Wars will be fought over it.

Brief: You are to design a water fountain to be used in the predicted water wars of 2012. Water is a valuable commodity, possibly the most valuable on earth. But in order for the war effort to continue, the troops must keep hydrated and ready to fight. You are to design a semi mobile water fountain that can be set up at forward command posts, occupied cities etc.

This fountain dispenses water according to a set protocol, which must be catered for in your design:

-- An optical scan records the retina of the drinker, assigning it a unique serial number.
-- The fountain dispenses 1 litre of water through a small nozzle, into a bottle. Once the water supply is cut, the bottle is released and can be taken by the user.
-- If someone attempts to use the fountain and their retinal sertial number has been used already in the past 24 hours, the water machine will shut down supply and an alarm will sound.
-- If tampering to the water supply canister is detected, the machine MUST have some way of protecting its vital resource - this is up to you whether it is aggressiv, defensive, etc.

Hope i didnt make that too complicated!!

Deadline: I think a fortnight worked well last time. Lets go again. Monday 29th may, approx..

Awsome topic. I like the idea of a set protocol, it's exiting to see how diffrent people are doing to handle it. The downside may be that the different concepts are very alike. But concidering how different past concepts have been I don't think that's going to be a problem ;).

beautiful brief, Form! If I didn't totally suck at tech I'd be very tempted to give this a whirl.

This water fountain is basically just:
- a shelf big enough to fit the bottle,
- An armored tank to hold the water,
- A drive train to move the fountain
- defensive weaponry.
- scannning equipment

And that''s really about it. I'm going to get to work on this soon.

I like this idea, its real good. Here is a sketch I did just now, unfortunatly you probly wont see a finnished product cause I've been trying to do some coloring but I just suck so bad at it. If some one can email me and give me some good information on how to get good at coloring (preferably with painter) I'd appreciate that, I think this would come out real cool, I can picture it with a realisitc style paint to it, but I just cant do what I picture with color.

Im brand new here but I've been lurking around for ages, I have done little art in the past and hardly any with Painter, but I thought I may as well 'ave a go at this. :bashful:

After adapting alien technologies into thier own devices, the European Forces used super lightweight alloys to a create jet powered, A.I controlled, ground support vehicle with the power to cross any terrain and due to it's expandability, have a large range of uses such as transfering water. It has anti-tamper defences and can hold it's own in small battles with the MG drone under its forward wing.

Defense Mechanism: Run away! This unit is highly mobile over all terrains.
The retina scanner uses pulsating lights and looks for changes in pupil size to detect if a person is alive, stopping enemy troops from using slain soldiers.

Mr-Joe, there are some great tutorial links in the wiki on this site. here are a couple, with slightly different techniques. they are photoshop, but could just as easily apply to painter. make sure to check out cabrera's video tutorials. they are well worth the watch. and free.

What can I say: there are 3 water distributors in each side of this semi mobile fountain. If this transport is under an attack it has 2 towers to defend itself and one heavy cannoon at its back. If someone who has already took his water ration try to take much more, the blue lights turn orange and all distributors are closed. In the extreme case, if someone try to fool the optic sensors (en ennemy for example) all the water inside will be contaminated by the poison contained in the 2 last and smaller tanks. We could think that every belligerent of this war has his own poison with its antidote.

That is the first time, I post on this website and find it very interesting as well as level can be high. Hope to progress soon thanks to all the competitors and professionals who are here.

Sillikone: thank you for the links of Cabrera. his tutorials are awesome!

very nice, I like the design but the 24 hour visibility illuminated sign isnt a very good idea when you are at war, and since water is so precious, the opponents will see it easely and will be able to destroy this essential ressource.

but except that, good job

Phew - super speedy because I had no idea how much time was left!

-The personal war water fountain.

Soldier's aspiration/ fluids collected by fountain.
Retinal scanner only allows members of unit to take bottle, although not soldier himself, this forces soldiers to protect their own squad members.
Soldiers protect / move the water supply with them.
