Hi,
PLEASE TRY TO REMEMBER
The first rule of the "FINISHED" is:
Include a picture when you start a new thread - links will not do anymore!
Keep on drawing!!! :D
Thank you!
Oblio
[edit] - Here goes a new one!
If you post multiple images in your thread please note it in the title.
Something like "(Big Dl)" or "(5 images)", or anything would do a little good to the modem creatures. :D
Come on... it ain't that hard.
I've edited lots of titles and i'll continue to, but i thought you might help me with this. :funny:
draw draw draw
[edit] - And another
If you realy love one thread - rate it. It is going to be easyer for everyone to find great threads by the rating. There are a lot of incredible threads lost in the depths of these forums.
Give one click for the endangered species... :D

Hi Oblio,
Why won't links do anymore?
If it was a problem I'm sure the administrators would disallow it.
Granted it's a little bit more work for the viewer to have to click on a link. But with the attachments option disabled, some of us don't have many options. Alot of us have art worth showing- Not all of us have hosted or personal websites at our disposal.
If there is a legitimate reason which I'm missing, please let us know.
No hard feelings, I'm just curious.:)

Uh.. well.. several reasons (no particular order) :
1 - it's hard to give feedback when you have the picture in one window and comments and the reply box in another one.
2 - Finaly finished is ment to be a sort of gallery not a "cool links page".
3 - there are free hosting services (even i use one of those) so.. why not? We will try to put up a guide since a lot of new people don't handle the pics easily.
will those do? Thank you for your effort.
I'm looking forward to see your art.
Don't get me wrong - if you have just finished your site and it's full of new art you can place the link - but please INCLUDE some pics in the threat too. Now.. am I not reasonable? :D :chug:

It sounds bad, But I dont like to bother clicking a link, I feel like backing out most of the time. It is that instant gratification thing.
I also notice a lot of people do not bother replying to messages that have links, and when someone pops the image up for them, it floods with replies.
people might feel if it's not showing it must be felt by the artist it's not really worth looking at.
My 2 cents.

Is it a official rule now to post imagehosted pics in your threads? And that linked images will be moved to "Coolest links" ?
In that case I'd appreciate some tips on free webspaces that allow direct imagelinks! I see dozens of free webhost but not many that you can use the good oleŽ with. As for now I have my website and unfortanately that one forbids imagelinking.
Personally I don't mind clicking a link, but if it is official it is ;).

Uh... sorry to hear that.
I use www.fortunecity.com but surely you can find some more.
Check the lounge - there were lots of talks about free servers.
As for the official part of it... it's not decided yet.
We try to see if it works for now. Having a clean "Finished" section would be cool in my opinion.
Let's look forward a rules update, a new FAQ and why not a new site :D
For now.. i'm the guilty one so punch me if i'm wrong.
The main line is: Let's try to keep this area a nice gallery!
Thx,
Oblio

Uhm, maybe I'm a little slow, but what exactly is so difficult about using the IMG tag to embed an image in a thread? Not asking to troll... asking because I've always embedded my images, and have no clue why someone might use a link instead.

Many webhost has made this choice unavailable, and instead show something like "Image hosted by blahah. Image forbidden". That is for preventing someone having two sites, one commercial funded (free site) where all the heavy images and stuff lie directly linked to a ad-free site, to make that one save as lot of space as possible. Then the freesite can't make profit from the ads. So you are lucky your host allow direct image-linking ;)

ahhhhh OK. I've been hosting a co-located sites with my own purchased DNS domain for so long, that I've never run into this experience. now I know, thanks for the headsup.

I reccomend Hostsave (http://www.hostsave.com) if you would like to buy a website.
to register a domain and have 1 year service will cost less than $100, you get 150 megs of space which is a lot for me i am only using 6 megs right now. read the list they have, you get a lot for your money. including a web statistics tracker, which is fun for me to see who has been visiting and what people are looking at the most. See who has linked you etc.
I have been toying with the idea of hosting my site on my computer at home, $60 a year to do that.

i would recommend angelfire as a webhost.it's free, you've got 20 megs, image linking allowed and (yet for me) no bandwidth limit when uploading pics.yet i haven't had the server down(on contrary to fortunecity).the adress is www.angelfire.lycos.com

LORD DUBU: In order to serve your own site you have to have a Cable or DSL connection and it stays on 24/7. so in some way it does cost you more, But if you want you can charge other artists a small fee to use your server and put their domain name on it and give them way more space if needed. I know it is going overboard but sounded like fun. Dont know if i will go that far yet.
Most free sites have thier name tagged at the beginning of your site so really it is a sub site and you own no domain name, They can throw popups and ads on your site. Plus Angelfire and other's tags thier logo on your art, i dont dig that at all.
I guess tha main thing for me really is knowing that I have ownership of my domain name which I now own for 9 more years and it cost me $100. I tried to buy it till after I was dead but they wouldnt let me HEHEH.

heres a thought - i dont know if i am posting this in the right place. Maybe you mods out there would possible like to add a section to the forum coalled "legendary threads" or something like that..something to showcase those pieces that we dont want to forget about, like the Kchen gargoyles (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=611), Khangle's book project (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7297), and Marko Djurdjevic's amazing work (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8325). It would be great to have all these and more as inspiration, they are the type of pieces that we can learn from, no matter how many time we see them.
-Just my thoughts, mods feel free to delete this if you feel it is in the wrong place or uncalled for...

For people that want to find a webhost to place your pics...go to www.creationstorm.com ...you can sign up with them for 6 bucks a month for 250 megs of space and 6gb of transfer per month...that is a really good deal. I am using them and they are really good and reliable. You can register your name at www.hostway.com for 6.95 per year as well...cheap cheap cheap.

I tried putting up a web site with the free options of Yahoo-geocities, and many others and they just suck. You build the first page and it takes a miracle to upload , then the images just don't appear, and I just gave up. Many here have missed my art whic modesty appart is very nice to look at , because they just won't click on a link, and those that do appear to be angry-judging by their messages. Hey, If you know a lot about computers and web hosting and up loading, great for you. But for us who don't, a link is all we can offer for now. I will put up a professional quality site soon but, by then I probably won't come back here.

el greco...not sure if this is something you want to do but if you just sign up for this stuff at www.creationstorm.com you can start using it right away...even if you don't have a website set up you can still link to your files that are uploaded to your server. Not sure if that's what you want to do but just so you know.

300meg, unlimited bandwidth @ 2x100mbps for 45sek/month, that's $5 or 4.9/month, with a signup fee of $14.9 or 13 plus domainregistration. However, their english site isn't finished yet, it seems, so it might not be the easiest choice for non-scandinavians. I'm sure they'll answer any mails in english tho.
My friends have this and they say it's great. The only downside is that they have mail-only support. But they seem to usually answer within the hour anyways.
They also have options with 100mb and 200mb of storage.
This might sound like an ad, but it's not - I don't even have them myself.
I'm sure it would be a good idea to go together a couple of people and share it, 300mb is a lot of space.

Just started on this forum today! I like what I am seeing and would love to be involved! Do I need a certain number of posts before I am allowed to attatch images? Because so far all that works to show my art is hyperlinks...please enlighten me!

Attaching images is not allowed. Only mods and "proffesionals" have this right.
Become one or the other and... you'll have the privilege. :)
Althought, attaching img's isn't quie a nice feature - people replying to your post will not be able to see the pic in the reply page (so.. it gets difficult to receive feedback on one)

I was wondering:
How many posts do I have to do before I can get rid of this preposterous "NOOB!" title?
Granted I've only been registered for a few hours, but still...
I couldn't find it in the FAQ.

If you're an artist, you need a website, and since we're all artists here, well... you get the idea.
I personally use WestHost and it costs me $100 a year for 250MB and tons of site management tools and programming built in if I want it. I've heard good things about Hostica (http://www.hostica.com), specifically that they have hosting for $1 per month. It only gets you 10MB, but what do you expect for a dollar a month. If 10MB won't do, you can get 80MB for $3.95/month. I think everyone can come up with $1 - $4 each month without much sacrifice (skip taco bell one day), and you get your own personal web space free of linking restrictions, banner ads, etc.

www.photobucket.com has a really nice photohosting site. it is free and i currently don't see a limit to what you can put on there. the only thing i can see that they do is they resize images that are 150k or bigger but then if we are posting to a forum we really shouldn't be posting uber sized images for the dial up buddies. just my 2 cents.

Gallon - Yore Swedish, right?
The only free webplace in Sweden I found this far that allows directlinking is Home.
I know passagen dont work, and not spray either.
So give home a go. Also it is possible that swipnet willl work also, because home is under swipnet, but UŽll have to check that out yourself, frankly I had a hell of a time registering accounts and trying them out before I found home. :D
