KChen don't tell me they try to keep people from doing studies! That's a scandal!

(Sometimes they won't let me take in my daypack with all my materials here, but I never had problems when I just grabbed my sketchbook and pencils and started to draw)

Looks great kchen!

They wouldn't let me sketch in the Degas show this past weekend either...wonder why they do that.

Very nice.

I can't understand why they would not allow people to study the paintings.

And how do you do you do these studies. I just use a pencil, but you got the colors. Is it markers or something? *noob* ;)

Kevin, It's Jonathan from ACCD. Haven't been around in a whilre for figure drawing been really busy finishing up all of my classes at pcc and preparing financial aid for art center fall.

How's it going?

I went yesterday to the show, 11th, for the last day. Luckily I went two other times. Absolutley amazing.... Never seen sargent before in real except the few paintings they have at the MET in NYC.

This painting in real life is absolutley breathtaking, I actually wrote a paper on this painting for my art history class if anyone is interesting in reading it...

Good study, how did you do it?

Cheers mate,

Intriguing, what did you use to paint this?

Yeah, usually museums don't want people to bring paint or ink to do studies because they don't want to risk damaging the original pieces. Same goes with flashes and photography due to paint color damage and effects on their book sales. I used photoshop 7.0 on my powerbook for this color study so I wouldn't cause any problems. The museum guard is just having a power trip and keep harrassing me to pack up even though I got permission to paint already from the securities (twice, with the museum guard next to me). He seems to made it his personal agenda to stop me painting (his boss is okay with it, is not like his is going to get into any trouble). I got mad when he grabbed my arm to try to pull me out the door before the museum closing time. I was pissed and made a bit of a scene. I got his name and complained to the museum about the harrasement. I don't understand what is his problem. Anyways, the study was done in a little bit over an hour. At least I was able to study the colors of one of my favorite painting in show.

Other than that experience, the show was great!! I believe it is still touring around to the next city. Definately should check it out if you are close to it.

Some people are on such a power trip! At my high school graduation, my brother almost got into a fight with the security guard, because he wouldn't let him through an exit door (he was trying to pull the car around before we made it outside).

What a stupid jerk...give a rent-a-cop a badge and they think they are rambo...same with mall security...they give you all this trouble but we all know that if they had to chase us anywhere they would be out of breath in about 10 steps hehe

kchen: was that guard an indian? i was distrubed all the way from the start by that fxxking indian guard there. i guess he wasnt too happy abt me pointed my finger too close to the painting and started yelling at me.i swear i didnt touch that and wouldnt do that either. i got real mad when he yelled at me the third time within 15 minutes and i almost wanted to crush him:p ..luckily my friends stopped me at once.Since then , he kept his eyes on us wherever we went to, i mean he actually followed us..that's so damn annoying..i dont understand why they had to be such a jerk.

Kchen, Great study of color temperature. Can I ask which museum was this done at?

Its a real shame the world is changing so fast. Artists have very little opportunity to really learn from masters anymore.

Thanks, the study was done at LACMA in LA. It was a traveling show and the last day was on May 11th in LA.

Usually I don't have problems in other museums as long as you ask nicely for permission before hand. This is my first time visiting LACMA, so I hope it is just this perticular guy that has some personal issues.
