This is an in progress drawing of.. I don't know. The pose was done in reference of a photo of John Carmack in a June 2003 issue of PC Gamer.

I originally was going to draw John C. himself, in a futuristic outfit, but I wasn't happy with how I was starting out. So I erased his head/shoulders, grabbed a blue color pencil and did this.

The pencil (Prismacolor) doesn't sharpen nearly as fine as graphite, so the lines are a bit thick. The good news is, I'm happy with the progress. This sketch took perhaps 5 to 10 minutes. And no, it is not smiling!

It is also not a robot, but will be a suit worn by a human. Kind of inspired by a concept art piece of Half-Life 2's assassin.

because of the very frontal view it makes it really hard to crit. we cant really see how the suit is designed from this view.

maybe you should skip the shading at this point and just
make a line drawing. maybe use some line wight on it.
that might help.

keep us posted.

Looking good so far. Maybe a front, back, and side view followed by an "action" shot?

Also, if this is meant to be worn by a human, I'm wondering if the forearms are a bit short? Unless they're foreshortened back into the picture plane.

Keep it up!
