Hey guys, I was approached by a guy that owns an accounting and book keeping company. He has a logo which is this small jpg, of a briefcase and some papers. He wants me to use that picture and create a design for a envelope sticker to put on his buisness mail. I gave him 6 different concepts to choose from, he chose one and now I am finalizing that one. I really have no idea what to charge for this. I called a graphic design agency, she said it would be around 600.00 ?, that cant be right, sounds pretty steep. I dont want to scare him off. Anybody have any advice? :yayca:

Hey Miker,
I know how you feel if you have no idea how much to charge for a logo, a couple of years I designed a logo for a company and from the work I did I thought I would charge about $500 and it sounded pretty good to me based on the amount of work I did... but I called some friends and based on their suggestions I ended up charging $1500, this was two years ago; However I recently bought the Graphic Artists Guild Handbook for Pricing and Ethical guidelines, and I found out the least you should charge for a logo, is $2000, it depends on how big the company is, for example:
small business: $2000-$7500
Medium size business: $3000 - $8000
large corporation: $5000-$25,000

the reason is, once they have the logo, the may use it anyway they want... the company I did the work for has used the logo I designed for posters, they used it on packaging, employee shirts, delivery vans, stationary, at conventions they use it for canopys, flyers, brochures, their parts catalog... and these are only the products I know about.
so you see, the $1500 I charged is not so high a price after all.

I hope you read this before you give him a final price.

i agree with the pricing from sepulveda. i just did a logo series (with or without text etc.) for different usage like cards, merchandise, posters, packaging, and asked and recieved 2500 euros (a bit more than $3,200).

it matters of course if this is your first time, or if it will be used for bizz cards only.. i definitely recommend Graphic Artists Guild Handbook for Pricing and Ethical guidelines and search a bit about negotiation strategies.
