Evolution
May 7th, 2006, 09:26 PM
The new topic is about Bulding(s) (noun or verb):

Continuing the title trend, add a title to your photographs.

READ THE RULES!

The Rules:
1. Only one picture per contestant.

2. No previously used material.

3. The winner of the last poll will set the next topic; if the same person stands as the winner two times in a row, he or she must choose another user to present the next topic

4. Enhancements of the picture (hue/saturation and levels) are allowed, but a minimum of Brushing etc.(Photomanipulation is subjective to conceptart.org member votes, your photo will be dismissed if too manipulated).

5. No voting for your own picture.

6. The challenge starts Monday, poll opens Friday and closes Sunday. the winner starts a new post on the photo forum that is named
"The Photo challenge - the chosen topic".

7. The poll shall be opened Friday evening.

8. In the event of a tie in the polls, the person who created the challenge casts the tie breaking vote.

9. The winner has until 18:00/6:00 pm (GMT +2) Monday, after he or she has won to present the next topic, if the winner fails to do so. the topic will be presented by the 2nd place person on the poll.

Nice Topic!

I took the liberty of jotting down the definition of Building so that you can all get creative, so here:

Building:
Something that is built, as for human habitation; a structure.
The act, process, art, or occupation of constructing.

Right guys. Looks like im the first ?
Heres my effort for now. Its of what was a Secret Weapons Containment building, actually built into the rockface in the first Gulf War in 1990. It now holds nothing but dust and hot air. I saw it when 4x4ing cross country. Had to stop and take a photo!

I quote *Enhancements of the picture (hue/saturation and levels) are allowed, but a minimum of Brushing etc.(Photomanipulation is subjective to conceptart.org member votes, your photo will be dismissed if too manipulated)*

So im guessing HDR is heavilly edited photo, i.e requires a certain pieace of software other than Photoshop/Paintshop (hue/saturation and levels) tools.

Unless the Editor states otherwise then bring it on!

Hmmm, we should take a vote on this recent update.. all those in favor of dismissing the HDR from photo challenges say aye:
The count begins.

hmm i would like to do a HDR image my self but i know that would open the flood gates for any kind of edited image. but is this a bad thing? im out on this one, ill go bye the overall above decision as regards to weather i do this or not

Nay.

As far as I could tell from reading up on it it's a process that can be done in a dark room with 'proper' photography. The concept also appears in many paintings.

It doesn't make the photograph something it's not, it highlights sections to the eye, like changing the saturation only more specific. It's still the same picture, just ever so slightly more pleasing. Also bear in mind that it's not just how 'shiny' the photograph is but also what the subject or concept of the photograph is.

I say it ought to be allowed in the photochallenges but the person who submits the photograph must mention that it is an HDR photograph so if someone likes the photo but doesn't agree with HDR being in the challenge then they if it's 'clean' or not and can vote as they so wish.

As the new and so-far undisputed rules say it is 'subjective to conceptart.org member votes,' I say we have it that way with HDR. Allow it but it must be mentioned (as we're not always going to notice if it's HDR, even though it does have a very distinctive 'glow' to it.) Also the photographer should have the common decency to try and keep it to a minimum; as not to try and overly outdo the competition or to, as said before, make the photograph something it's not. Remember, we're here to showcase and see amateur photography, not to pit everyone against each other. Keep it as clean as you want, but most importantly keep it what it is meant to be, a break. Keep it fun or keep it hard-hitting, depending on what you want to show in your photograph.

very good statement, rhynome. and we should post a link to sam's thread or the encyplodeia article that explains hdr for the people that aren't familiar with it. so let the votes decide! :)

Sweet Photo Barret.. wow!

About the HDR.. I dont think i agree with the HDR, I think it is too unnatural, sort of like adding a 90% Saturation on everything..(i know there's a difference) but it feels that way to me.

However, Rhynome managed to say everything i would want to say concerning voting, etc.. i dont think HDR should be on the forbidden list, but i dont encourage it very much either.

"The act, process, art, or occupation of constructing." hope this fits, i wanted to do something slightly different for a change. After thinking about the hole HDR thing, im note sure but I don’t think you can do it in a dark room, even if you can its still manipulation, I took the road as weather the above one was approved or not, im not going to do it for a challenge

Just a little tip if you want to try it out. I say, to make it a tad more abstract you crop the picture so the bottom of the frame is just above the right black spot on the left of the pictures. Above the two holes in the wall.
Or a bit beneath the two holes in the wall. The bottom bit just looks out of place compared to the top and also ruins the illusion of great height. Play with cropping it above the black spots and windows and below the windows, see which looks best. Either way both will keep the illusion of height which could work well here.

Or you could just leave it as it is, but play about with it nevertheless, you don't know until you try it really, do you?

I'm beggining to get really ashamed of not posting photographs now. Especially when I see what sort of stuff people come up with.

The original intention was to linger here for a bit, absorbing as much as could be useful before trying to get into it myself. I then thought I'd allow myself maybe one post, or maybe two... another won't hurt, they don't know who I am and won't expect me to produce any photographs... oops.

So sorry for no photos yet guys, but fantastic pictures coming from you lot, that kinda makes up for it.

Samsite, this one's for you:
