always love seeing people's atelier work, seems to always be really good :teeth: beautiful stuff here, you can put some amazing detail into your portraits (especially those 20 minute ones). my favorite one would be the second of the 20 minute ones, great expressions in there. Are those last ones oils? just curious I guess, look great either way. keep it up!

As usual some nice stuff-
However I think This dude's goatee (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/frokk/Picture006.jpg) is a bit misplaced to the left... Try flipping the picture horizontally.

hey there. Nice work- i love those 20s- that's really damn impressive. I was hoping you could answer a question. I just wanted to ask what you guys were using. Is this smooth newsprint, and those 1710 b conte charcoal pencils? What technique do you use to get such light gradients when you're shading with those? All right, enough with the questions. No biggie if you're not in the mood to explain. Good work.

Onir-thanks. yes, those are oils. and its really more about ignoring the details, especially in the 20s.
Pixeldragoon- all the time there's some blatantly wrong thing in one of my paintings that i just don't see. thanks for pointing it out. beards are nice in drawings in that you dont have to worry about the mouth and the jaw so much, but they're difficult to paint.
sith- yes, its the smooth np and 1710 contes for most of those drawings. the second drawing was probably some other kind of charcoal pencil. as for getting light gradients i would use a hard charcoal pencil. charcoal pencils are really inconcistant so you have to actually check it to see how hard or soft it is, the b 2b etc dont really tell you much. you can get the effect with conte but you have to try harder for it.
a couple more pics..

wonderful pieces, how many classes are you taking at watts? i've been considering that place but i'd feel strange trying to go there as a full-time student, based on how the classes are structured.

last semester i think i was taking about 10 classes. but i was a bit more full time than most... you should definitely check the place out. my first semester there i just took a couple of classes to see how it was, and to see if it was worth it. if you want to learn how to draw, i don't think theres a better place out there.

Jack nice work..hmm have you guys done any master copies? i still think there is way too much colors on some of the paintings.they confuse my eye ;)..hmm i do love your 3 last drawings..you can see a lot of improvement there.
Sir Antony Van Dyck is a good teacher :) look at the caligraphy of the hair (the way is expressed) and study a few skin tones from him ..

the_allejo05 - they do have master copy classes but i never took any--i guess maybe i should have. but i think i would have had to take quite a few of those to paint like van dyke.
