Hi shadow,
"Art Schools"? Well there is the University of Manitoba School of Fine Arts (http://webapps.cc.umanitoba.ca/calendar04/faculties/school_of_art/) ... but there is a another, a college, I think it's winnipeg's best kept secret in terms of graphic design: Red River College (http://www.rrc.mb.ca). I've heard great things about this place. Apparently a lot of U of M students go to Red River after finishing their degree.
Also, with Red River, they're currently constructing a state of the art facility. The new downtown campus will be strictly for computer technology/digital media tech/creative arts/graphic design students. I'm currently taking some graphic design courses there and it's an awesome place to be.
Application deadlines, with most schools, occur during early April. I must also remind you since you are living out of manitoba you may have to be placed on a waiting list once you are accepted.
I think I'll end it here, I can go on forever, hope this helps,
Mondo
p.s. Let me know if you need more info in terms of curriculum...I've done some school research for my brother who's been accepted to a 3D animation school in Edmonton. He spent a couple years in the Fine Arts Faculty at the U of M.

endregan, you definately need to head on over to Sheridan (http://www.sheridaninstitute.ca/programs03_04/index2.html#saad). Its an Toronto-based school, which is my post-secondary goal. Sheridan is among the best in the world (or so im told), but its very difficult to get in, thats why you gotta try hard.
I think this place is good too http://www.ocad.on.ca/

Listen to Jnorish... I hear great things about Sheridan all the time... how great the programs are... how they are tonnes of job opportunities for graduates... how Disney hires Sheridan students... blah-blah-blah... I can go on...
Consider yourself lucky that you live only an hours drive away from TO! I'm sure you can drive over, make an appointment with an academic advisor... or go to an info session... get a tour... e-mail current students... yadda-yadda-yadda... I'm sure you know all this, I'll end it here.

The Alberta College Of Art and Design is located in Calgary. Its a very good school, but
I'm biased being a former graduate and a sessional faculty member.
The school is a general Design program with graduates going into Advertising,
Graphic design, Illustration, and such.
In regards to Concept Art we don't have a a specific course program but the education
you get seems applicable. A game design company up in Edmontion, Bioware, just
took in two students from the recent graduating class. And I believe the majority of
the art dept is former graduates.
Here is the link to ACAD:

Here are some links to former graduates:

If you want more info you might also ask Isric (I think that's the name he goes by here at CA). He's a current student.
Hope this helps,
W. Hand
