Hi. I don't know how many hours I have spent on this image. I reopened the file and continued workin on it now and then, for over half a year. I want to make it a quality piece - so please critique!

wow.. thats pretty nifty. i like what you did with the background and the values.. the pirate on the left could always use some more facial values.. since he is behind the rope ladder, and the sun is on the upper right, it would seem logical that the ladder should cast a shadow on the pirate's face (the pirate with the monkey) . overall its really good.

I think upping the contrast between the shadows and light source would really add something to this. Al some greater definition to the pirates, its odd that the water in the backgorund is so clear and finely detailed yet the foreground seems slightly muddy.
I disagree about the cast shadow, yes it would be cast on his face but it should be omitted.a cast sahdow on the face would ruin the 3dimensionality of the face. If a cast shadow ruins a pecie why include it?

I love the guy hanging with shiny eyes, I think you just have to work out the details, like freemantillimcaught said its muddy, othervice everything looks quite cool the composition and all :D

Now that is cool, I noticed that the pirates legs {one without the monkey} are light up all the way from one leg to the other, but it seems like his right leg should be shadowed more. Anything that needs work in this paticular piece is so minute that most viewers could simply ignore them. Great work!
