Woo! It's like a dream come true. It seemed like a such an obvious thing to do and now they have! Apparently you can now design virtual LEGO models and then have a robot in the LEGO factory collect the parts for you. I wonder if they have older and rarer lego parts. Have anyone tried this thing?

Edit: Having surfed around a bit, I've gathered the following insights: They don't actually pick individual parts for you, but little bags of parts, so you might get (have to pay for) extra parts you don't need for the model. However, the price isn't that bad considering it's 'on-demand'. Some 250 parts might cost 20usd (15euro), but the majority of those will be extras. Not all parts are available, just the classic parts and some of the new stuff, no bionicle joints or mini-figs yet.

I hope awesome builders like Zizy and Nakany uses this function so I can buy their wicked mechas!

I didn't know about this until just this very minute. I spent a bit of money buying random kits just to get parts for my TA Kbot. It's still WIP cuz I don't have all the parts I need yet, like dark gray round things instead of the light biege ones. I'm also experimenting with alternative solutions. Articulation works though, I'm using Bionicle ball-joints (there's actually some good simple ones). Small pics cuz it was dark and exposure got really bad and fuzzy.

The countless hours I spent making lego mechas as a kid.. Never quite got them to walk the way I wanted but they moved .. in a way. Wonder if the program includes technic lego.
Thanks for the link, prom.

Holy shit, he made a tachikoma!

I'm gonna steal back all my lego from my little brother now.

The constructor is nice, but you can only use veeery few pieces and I haven't figured out how to use multiple bricksets at once.

Holy shit yes! I always dreamed of being able to get just the good parts as a kid, instead of having to take 5 different sets and put together some multicolored pieces into my creations. Of course, this comes a few years too late...

vigo> Thanks, but I'm afraid I'm rather amateurish when it comes to this lego stuff. It's amazing to see how some builders out there solve problems, or combine parts in way I wouldn't even think of.

Floris> Hehe, you should be able to find tons of Tachikoma models, I've seen a few at brickshelf that were really nice.

dfacto> Well I have many crates of lego but still not all the parts I need by a longshot. Most of my parts is from the early 80's though so no wonder... The blue construction guy is from 1983.

WIP still, it has some issues.

I'm gonna try contacting some other LEGO builders and ask how they deal with the parts issue. There's a lot of new cool parts that are good for mecha building, I'd really like to lay my hand on those.

Cool mech!

At a local Toys R' Us you can fill a bag with seperate parts that they charge according to weight, I think, but they only have the most basic parts :/.
