View Full Version : (Up-dated 5-10-06) SPEED PAINTING - I will try to add a pg every week

As a freelance artist… one of the first questions I get is how fast can I work and what level of quality do they get at that speed. I never saved or simply went over the speed part of the painting so I didn’t have examples for my potential clients.
I decided to paint one every week. Hope you like them.

Wow love the last one how long did that take?
And top pic is great 2 man.
Good idea to train speed with kwalitie.
But what do you think is more important for a beginner to train first?
Speed ore kwalitie.
Ore do you learn sooo much form speed painting that it is important to speed paint a lot ??
Well cheers and i am going to check out you page

Third pg was 5 min

Maybe this is a stupid question but what is kwalitie
But I think I know what your saying …
As an Art Teacher I teach the basics first… design, composition, story, etc. then one should sketch 80% of the time, 20% is used to work on you weakest point and some color. As you get more control you can now start to speed up.
Do not use photos reference and try to speed up like that it wont work you will rely on it to much.
I will see if a tutolial is posible.
tgfx i will email you back tonight.
thank you all

I'm sorry to say this, but the female, she is seriously ugly!
I'm thinking it's intentional by looking at your website.
Well good luck and hope to see updates soon!

Great stuff, I'm also working on painting faster in PS and Painter, at the moment all my concentration is on refining my pencil work though. Speaking of which I seriously need to get a page of my own going.
But enough about me, can't wait to see more of your speed work.

Hi .
HI , I deduced for your name that you are Spanish talking (:)). I have seen your web and is great . Yours speeds paintings too . Should be great that you write the time that you spend to finish the speed drawings .
Your draw "Titan" is impressive .
:yayca: see you. nos vemos.

Not a stupid question… I used it for quick compositions and fast color keying its not something I recommend. You can do it on PScs2 now.

In this kind of job, it's hard to do so many without a good time spared.
I wish I could know more ways to be faster. I usually take one week in one simple art, even having the combo: Adobe Photoshop Cs2 + Wacom Tablet Intuos 3 9x12

well i do use the wacom Cintiq 21ux it makes me fast but knowing the simple stuff like a sense of space and form fell of weight and anatomy well you know the basics.... that makes me a lot faster.

Wow! There's so much speed painting out there! It's really hard to keep up with it all. So I've dedided that each week I'm going to start Speed Viewing paintings. I looked for a whole second at this.
It's about quality vs. quantity. And that's my two cents.
