View Full Version : Paintn' collection

This is a collection of oil and watercolor paintings I've done over the past several years. Any and all feedback would be appreciated. The main reason I am posting all of these is because I am trying to put together a portfolio that is aimed towards Conceptual Art jobs (video games, movies, n'such), where as a lot of my past work, like these, were made mainly with galleries and fine art thesis projects in mind. So I would like peoples opinion about which of these (if any) do you think would be a good addition to a concept art portfolio that an art director might be interested in seeing.
Thanks.

NICE! I like the ones called "Ruins" and "Dusk" the water color gives it great detail. And its very greatly detailed. Just on the left on "Dusk" it looks like all the water color ran together and looks like its creating a blob. But if thats how you painted it. It still looks really good. Keep up the good work.

I can't comment if these would be good for a concept portfolio or not - my field is more illustration, but I'm sure some of the pros here can help you.

As for the art...I think its' great! I see a strong J.W. Turner influence..which is awesome. I'm a huge fan of his later work...in person (the ones I have seen) are so impressive and powerful. Not meant for reproduction - I have a feeling these pieces would be way more impressive in a gallery where you can really see all the paint handling. Do you have any figurative work?

No idea if these would be appropriate for a concept art portfolio or not, but I really like most of them anyway.

2p noob/student opinion.

these remind me very much so of theodore rousseau's paintings. Very haunting and beautiful.

A lot of these remind me of Thomas Moran, but with much heavier abstracted brushwork. They look nice. I like how the color and landscape pops out from the dense messy brushstrokes.

killer!
that first one is one of the most beautiful things ive seen in a while.

as for a concept art portfolio, i'm feel;
black house, grey house, ruins, and dusk, are all appropriate.

The first one is beautiful! I like how you can see the thick strokes.
And the rest are realy cool too.
Do you have any figure or character kind of stuff? would be great to see it if you do.

I want more :D :D :D

weaponx: Thanks man, yeah it definitely got blobby in the left corner, I think I went to dark and was trying to fix it, which is tough in watercolors...er.. I mean it was completely intentiona
:tihi:

Great work, your watercolour control is stunning!
Love the first few pieces especially, masterful and moody! Like the traditional work more than digital, the digital pieces seem to get a bit overworked in areas and lose the freshness of the traditional pieces.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Very atmospheric. I really enjoy the brush strokes and the energy contained in your pieces. It seems like each one has its own tale to tell.

Heysoos man, long time no see. You know you're work rox my sox, Daily Rituals in particular. Some have a wonderfully evocative macabre seam running through them. I'm reminded of Gustav Moreau, and as loomer said, Turner.

Don't be a stranger now, y'hear? Post more!
