just to make things clear...sorry, i dont really understand the meaning of "motocentaur" either not "byke/atv".
is this topic meant to be a guy whos looking like a centaur in the traditional way but has mechanoid parts instead of the horsebody?
and...should the mechanical part of the body look like a bike?

Nexus
May 2nd, 2006, 06:36 AM
Dariocoelho, yea I think you got it correct. The head and torsoe of a humanoid with a motorcycle or all terrain vehicle instead of legs. I dont think the lower portion necessarily needs to look like a bike since ATV's are fair game also.

Tyranx
May 2nd, 2006, 06:48 AM
hmmm I thought it was a humanoid riding a motorcycle or ATV of some kind.

Simon Boxer
May 2nd, 2006, 08:17 AM
I'm guessing it's one whole character -> the Motocentaur. Thus (I assume) it should have the moto part combined. If you did them separately it'd be an industrial design and a character.

As for what the motorised part should be - it seems very open, so however you interpret it will be fine. Could be an interesting topic.

May 2nd, 2006, 10:45 AM
I really try to have it open.
It's one character - part humanoid, part... machine with wheels.
I can't say motorcycle or atv only - it's open to your imagination - yet - i think it's best to stick to stuff with wheels.

THis looks like a great way to practice real-world skills, I plan to work diligently and eventually (months) submit something respectable. In the meantime...

EDIT: ditched the segwarrior, went with something a little bit different.

[Concept:
In the Gladiatorial Arenas of the future, the SegWarrior is valued for stability and ferocity. With the ability to absorb any frontal blow and dodge with gyroscopic ease, they are prime front-line combatants. After a freak accident destroyed New York, disrupted the economic stability of the world, plunged the earth into global chaos and bonded a park patrol-man to his Segway, a gladiatorial arena was created to resolve supranational disputes. To THIS DAY, the park patrol-man, now known only as "GyroDeath" is reigning champion for NikeCorp.]

New Concept:
Victims of Nuclear attack are bound to the mechanical parts they were near at the time. To be separated from these parts would be death, so they were made machine. Hence:

FINAL UNLESS OTHERWISE POSTED:

A semi-evolution of this is available in my SB, in case anyone wants to see it.

But is it necessary for the lower body to have wheels? The "Moto" suggests only a mechanized lowerbody, at least I think that way. :blahblah:
So mechanical Spiderlegs or a chain gear would be possible, too.

Loving the Segway take on this! XD

Damn tricky one, a centaur isn't airodynamic at all.

I think you're right Uziel, it seems like instead of conveying speed, utility or military may come into play. War machines kind of fit in with the sci-fi aspect of it. Not that it's necessarily sci-fi. It could be just some sort of horrible industrial accident. :P

Your not developing it more TheGnoll? He looks like an awesome character, especially with the skull on the front.

I may throw my work around in this thread.

I am intrigued by this theme and all the fun ideas I see appearing on this forum. Thought I would show an initial drawing, hopefully to be colored if time allows. A variation of the man/unicycle. If it dosn't go to color I will pull the sketch so as not to take up space for final pieces.

This is a Tunnel Runner. wip
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a278/AztcFireFlower/TunnelRunner.jpg
Tunnel Runner.

Tunnel Runners were used in off world mining. This corp of diggers and scouts for raw material are fitted to move as quickly as possible. As they map out mineral territories they often have to outrun the lethal denizens that live along the paths they take. The mechanical claws are used to dig for deposits to take back for testing as well as for defense. TRunners are made up of volunteers as they are extremely well paid, enough to buy themselves their own small planet or moon. The technology is advanced enough that when a TRunner finishes his term he is refitted with his original arms and legs or better.

~ RX913 Towing Droid ~

Description:

The police comissioned RX913 Towing Droid is a multi-purpose unit which functions as a traffic officer, towing vehicle and parking ticket printer. The RX913 works round the clock to keep illegally parked vehicles off the streets. Being an early prototype, the droid has been known to make mistakes from time to time ~ here we see the droid has apprehended a small-remote controlled vehicle which he is now bringing to justice.
